He’s the biggest, baddest, most spider-fearing motherpucker on the ice… of the rink. I don’t come early, but I come often, if you know what I mean. And I always leave the ladies wanting more.
Until that chick last night.
I’m no one-thrust wonder, and you’re damn right I’m going to prove to her I can do better. But every time I think I’m finally on my way back into her pants, she one-ups and out-balls me.
I should cut my losses, lick my wounds, and walk away.
But Zeus Berger doesn’t walk away from anything.
Especially when she’s the only woman in the world who might be able to handle me.
The Pilot and the Puck-Up is a standalone romantic comedy featuring a hockey player whose ego is the only thing bigger than his shoe size, the most badass woman to ever fly a plane, rubber chockey (don’t ask), and no cheating or cliffhangers.

The Pilot and the Puck-Up is a romantic comedy set within the Mister McHottie world. Zeus is a larger than life, confident, brash, hockey player extraordinaire and he never backs down from a challenge. Fireball is all challenge, all lady balls and loud mouth, but she can’t help but be intrigued by Zeus. Their chemistry might reign supreme, but will the calling of the ice be more of a temptation or can they fight for their wacky relationship?
Oh my goodness, I laughed so hard reading Zeus and Joey Fireball’s romance and I couldn’t help but read lines out loud to my husband! I have been intrigued by Zeus since I first heard of Ms. Grant’s writing, and I was so curious to know the type of woman who would be strong and crazy enough to deal with Zeus’ big personality. I loved Zeus and Joey, though! So much! Zeus has this persona of being a bit of a joke, but there’s so much more to him! I loved that he wasn’t afraid to embarrass himself, I loved his more vulnerable sides, and I loved how much he both caught and accepted loving Joey. Fireball has been surrounded by men her whole life, so she feels like she has to prove herself to everyone, and not many can handle her strength, passion, drive, and balls. Yes, lady balls! She’s funny, caring, protective, and has a softer side that very few gets to see. Together, Zeus and Joey are everything! I loved them so much, loved their passion, their blunders, their banter, their love. I devoured this book and am already so excited for more from Ms. Grant!
When Zeus Berger, superstar hockey player, meets pilot Joey Diamonte sparks fly in all directions! They’re perfect for each other.
The Pilot and the Puck-Up is a fun sports romance. I loved it. Zeus, a hockey player, and Joey, a pilot, are great characters, and they are perfect together. The storyline is fun, entertaining, flirty, and romantic. Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon did a great job with the narration. I enjoyed it!
This book may be a stand-alone story, but there are a lot of nuances in the story that won’t make as much sense without knowing something of the books that have come before it. It seems a little strange after seeing Zeus as not much more than the goofball meathead of his sister’s story to discover just how much of himself is hidden behind that social mask. I adored the great big heart he was protecting. I love that Joey is large and in charge and isn’t at all afraid of letting the men around her know it. Unfortunately, that was also what I didn’t like about her. She comes across as confrontational and more than just a little b!tchy about it. I had issues connecting with her until she starts to let her control slip. As with the previous books, this one kept me laughing. Often the humor was the level of tweenaged boys with poop jokes, but there are times that’s exactly the humor I’m looking for.
You gotta love a woman with bigger balls then any hockey player. Joey (fireball) Diamante an airplane vomit comet pilot puts Zeus Berger on his knees. She out talks him out maneuvers him and beats him at every turn. I love the banter between them. This book is a laugh out loud fun read. I love the way PIppa Grant literally puts Joey as large Marge in charge and puts the big talking yeti
Zeus falling for her. If you want to laugh out loud, have the good feelings only Pippa Grant can
bring to a book then giddy up and get ready for a fun read.
The Pilot & the Puck-Up is a standalone, one-night stand, virgin romantic comedy that is told in the first-person point of view of Zeus and Joey.
Joey (Josephine, aka Fireball) is a pilot who co-owns her own company, Weightless, with her partner Peach, that takes people on plane rides that allow them to feel like they are in space. She is a no-nonsense, former military woman who is usually thought of as one of the guys. Joey goes to a charity golf tournament to hope to schmooze with the rich and famous with hopes to get them to invest in Weightless. Joey did not expect to have to deal with an ogre in a pink dress that woke up all of her lady parts.
Zeus is a professional hockey player known as The Brute while his twin brother Ares is known as The Force. Zeus is a huge man who is feared on the ice and known as a joker off the ice. Most people take him at face value and women want to be with him because of who he is but when he meets Fireball she changes everything in him. Zeus is determined to spend time with her and every time they seem to get some alone time something goes wrong. Jupiter explodes, a spider hangs from the roof of the golf cart which Zeus sends flying into the lake, etc.
Zeus and Joey were so fun to read about. Their connection and mishaps were so fun to read about. The Pilot & the Puck-Up had everything from laughter to romantic, swoony points. Not many people understood both Zeus and Joey but the understood each other which made them such a great couple to watch grow together. I can not wait to dive into the next Pippa Grant novel to continue following this group of family and friends.
The Pilot and the Puck-Up
By: Pippa Grant
Narrated by: Jason Clarke, Erin Mallon
I can always count on a great listen when I pick up a Pippa Grant book. But this one really hit home with me. Zeus Berger is a huge man, demanding on the ice and can find women anywhere. Now he has met his match with Joey Fireball, the one woman who sees him, and gets him. But will he charm her enough to win her heart? I could not get enough of this book. I love romantic comedies, and yes, this one made me laugh out loud. What I found really endearing about this one though was Zeus. He is so lovable, and so big, and while not clumsy has that feeling of tripping over himself just to be near Joey. Joey is feisty, smart and ambitious but Zeus is getting under her skin. Joey is a model to all women and shows us how nothing is out of our reach. Does she have time to put into a relationship? This is a fun, easy listen, made my day full of love and laughter. Keep bringing them Pippa!
The narration team of Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon is epic for rom coms. They both have such great style, find the depth of their character and pull it out and have incredible comedic timing. This duet style was amazing and I loved every minute.

The Pilot & the Puck-Up is a stand alone sports rom-com by Pippa Grant. The characters do recur from one book to another but it is not required to read any of them in order to enjoy this.
Zeus Berger is a professional hockey player, a huge man, feared on the ice, as is his twin brother, Ares. Zeus and his brother are both known for their abilities on the ice, and their antics off the ice. People expect it of him and he is happy to comply. Because of his size, people tend to take him at face value. Women want to hook up with him because of who he is. But no one looks deeper. No one knows how smart he really is. No one bothers to see, until he met her.
“The Brute they call him. On the ice? Yeah. Off the ice? He’s a teddy bear.”
Josephine (Joey) Diamonte (aka Fireball) is a pilot for her and her partner’s company, Weightless. She is a no nonsense, former military woman who tends to get thought of more as one of the guys. She’s okay with that. She’s accustomed to it. But then Zeus walked up to her and all her lady parts woke up.
“This woman! She’s different. Stronger. Smarter. Harder. She’s got something inside her, something driving her, that I want to touch. Want to see and feel. Understand.”
Joey and Zeus had that instant zing between them but let’s just say their first couple of attempts to be together didn’t go so well. They were off to a rocky start. Zeus knew he should walk away. He was getting ready to start spring training soon. He was not a relationship kind of guy. But he couldn’t get her off his mind.
These two were so much fun to read about. Both were so lonely, even though they didn’t really see it. But they saw so much in each other that no one else saw. They got each other. They understood each other.
Right away on the first page, you are introduced to Zeus’s crazy hilarity. I do have to admit that even though I’ve read several of these books, it’s been awhile. And I spent some time a bit confused with all the secondary characters. But after a few chapters, it all started falling into place.
This is what I would call an over the top rom-com. The antics are crazy. But it also has so many sweet moments. Both of these two had so much to offer. No one ever bothered to notice until they met each other. As they finally find their way, these two steam up the pages with their sizzling chemistry.
I also want to be sure to mention that if you are a member of Pippa’s news letter, there are extended epilogues for I believe ALL of her books. This one had three short little extended epilogues and they were adorable. I loved them.
So, if you want to snort laugh, maybe swoon a little bit, and just smile a lot, then give this a try. The next book on my Pippa reading schedule is Royally Pucked.
Oh. My. Goodness. Gracious!!! I would give this 100 stars just for the hilarity alone! Then another 100 for the storyline. I laughed so hard through this whole book my heart felt ten times lighter! I loved loved loved this story!!
Goofy, egotistical Zeus meet his match in the steely-strong woman of his dreams. Very funny!
Zeus and Joey are awesome and I wish I could know them in real life! Very entertaining story. Fun read. Definitely recommend.
I was 30% through this book and I was bored yet I kept reading. It did it get any better. I have read the other two books in this semi series and when we were introduced to the Berger twins Zeus and Ares in McHottie I was excited that Zeus was going to have a story. I was terribly disappointed and it wasn’t really with him. It was with Joey. She was to much. I’m all for strong badass women but she was over the top. It was so ridiculously unrealistic how she constantly talked about kicking a mans ass. She was mean and played silly female games. She did everything to antagonize Zeus yet got upset when she thought that he stop chasing her and playing the game. In my opinion Pippa over did it when she wrote this character. I’m still a fan if Pippa’s books just not this one.
I love every book in this series and can’t wait for more form this author!
I absolutely adore Joey. Bring on a woman who kicks a**! And kudos to Zeus who got the girl. Absolutely hilarious! I really enjoyed reading this one.
This is one amazingly hilarious romance read! Hockey hunk Zeus Berger meets up with Joey “Fireball” Diamonte a pilot , things get hilarious and hot!! Zeus has found his match who will give as good as she gets. You can’t go wrong reading this book!
This is a fantastic book. I don’t know when I laughed so much or so hard this author has a wicked since of humor. My husband would cut his eyes to me every at times with the look of “are you alright?”. When I read the blur of it online I knew I had to read it right away and I am so glad I did. The characters are usual but full of life, but there comes points in the book that you to really know who Joey (Fireball) Diamonte really is along with Zeus Berger.
The book starts with a Golf Charity meet and greet event before the actual tournament; which take place the next day. The even though the book only gives a hint to it being to help kids get better resources and help for Dyslexia. It briefly speaks of the struggles that two of the supporting characters had in their youth and how it may have effected them as adults.
Zeus Berger was dared by Prince Manning Frey who is from a little country close to Scotland to go to the evening function dressed as a girl. Now Zeus Berger along with his twin brother Ares are NHL players but with one things that sets the two of them apart from most other hockey players. They are huge standing at six foot seven, and both are so wide it is a miracle that each one doesn’t have to turn sideways to go through a door way. Also with them is Jett Chase, he is also a hockey player but not as big as these guys. He however is dating their sister Ambrosia. Zeus comes in having been squeezed into a girdle having coconuts as breast covered with a pink spandex dress. He is sporting his five o’clock shadow that started an hour after he shaved that morning, a pink wig, and four heels to fit his huge feet. They join the Prince at a table and then discuss another bet. They double the amount of ten thousand dollars to see if Zeus can get the girl that Manning picks out from the people there to leave with him. Very few people know about this woman but she is someone that one should take seriously.
(Joey) or Fireball as she is commonly known as is a different type of woman and I loved her. She is at the event that night because her business partner Peaches had an emergency with her grand mother and couldn’t make it. Peaches also made sure to have Fireball’s little sister Gracie come and sort of babysit Fireball. They are there to get investors for their business “Weightless”. They fly a 727 and allow people the chance to experience weightlessness as if the our in outer space. The plane is also know a the “Vomit Comet”. Both of these women are very Alpha personality’s but they earned that right. No one is more so than Fireball and Gracie is there to keep Fireball from scaring off investors.
She worked her butt off in High School to get a scholarship to college. That is where she spent four year learning aerospace engineering and ROTC. Afterwards she went straight into the Air Force becoming a pilot and one so good she piloted special ops mission. She spent all her time around the men and had to stand up for herself and gain their respect and then some. She was also trained in other areas as well. So lets just say that if you need a pilot/body guard this a the woman you would call. She has gotten to the point that she in not really interested in men because one most are intimidated by her, or two don’t know how to please a woman at all. So to say that she has been with a man in that very intimate way is a no. This is the woman that Prince Manning has chosen for Zeus to leave with if he can.
Things get funnier and funnier from this point on with the word play, and with Fireball beating Zeus’s ego at every turn. They thing is Zeus is captivated by her, and by the fact that for the first time he might have met his match in this woman.
This is one book you can not miss out on. You will love every page of it..
You need a good laugh? Need a good smexy yet sweet romance? Look no further! You will find it in the newest book, Charming as Puck by Pippa Grant!
This is the story of Nick & Kami. And what a fabulous story it is! It’s the quintessential “You don’t know what you’ve got, until it’s gone” (And now I am humming Guns N Roses) story.
Kami knows what she wants and when she feels like she isn’t going to get it with her current friends with benefits relationship with Nick. She is brave and strong and says no more. Then she walks! Girl power!!
Nick is the epitome of a famous athlete. He is selfish and thinks of nothing but hockey and pranking his teammates in the most evil way possible. He thinks what he has with Kami is perfection and he couldn’t be more wrong. He realizes too late that he has been taking advantage of Kami’s nature and body selfishly. And he is planning to make amends. Which he does in the most epic and sweetest way possible!
From cow-dogs, to glitter bombs, this story has everything you didn’t know you needed in a story! You are gonna laugh out loud and swoon so hard you will need to make sure you have a soft place to fall!
It was fantastic to see all the past characters make there presence known in the story, they bring so much more! I so wish I could be a part of their magical world, but alas I have to just read about it and I am honored that I got to!!
As always, this can totally be read as a stand alone! I have just been lucky enough to read them all and am able to enjoy this story just a bit more.
4.5 stars. This book is HILARIOUS! I try and reserve this author’s books for when I am in a reading funk, or need an uplifting read, because she sure knows how to make me feel good. This book is so over the top! Its funny and sweet and I might, might have shed a tear or two. I loved the Puck up and I think the Pilot is going on my list of favorite heroines ever! I just loved this book to pieces! Highly recommended for those looking for humor and a lighthearted read!
Third book in the series – didn’t think it possible, but each one gets better and better (and the first book was outstanding!) The so very tall and brawny Zeus never felt like he fit in and Joey never felt it safe to love again. But Cupid knows better and shot his dart at this unlikely pair. I laughed and I cried – this love story just melted me. With a wonderful and wacky supporting cast, this is yet another Pippa Grant book you will wish would never end. Keep ‘em comin’ Pippa!
The Hilarious Courtship of Two Unstoppable Bada$$es
That’s what the subtitle should have been. Because there never really was a one night stand and it was mostly irrelevant that she was a virgin. What does matter is that Zeus and Fireball are both driven, abrasive, fearless (well, nearly), and flawed. And despite discovering a mutual attraction, then a mutual respect, then a lasting connection, these two never really soften – which was terrific. It’s nice to see difficult — unlovable, even — people find a way to fit together without losing their edge.
