Very clear writing and inspires the reader to test the recipes.
I love pho! The hardest thing about pho is the broth because of that is not right, nothing you can do will make it right. I made the beef pho from this book and the broth is delicious. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. Just make you have all the ingredients assembled before you start so you do not leave anything out as the list can be long. Just try, you might not have to go out to get great pho!!
There are some books I like to have in both physical and electronic format, so I can use them in person but search them online or have them with me anytime (with cookbooks that’s useful at grocery stores).
Andrea Nguyen’s cookbooks are some of these – I got a notification that her pho cookbook is on sale today but I already own it in both formats, so I figured I’d share a recommendation. I’ve used her Banh Mi handbook a lot this summer, but I’m looking forward to soups as we enter fall!
Whether you’re reading one of her books, following her Viet World Kitchen food blog, or enjoying her social media posts, Andrea Nguyen is a great teacher who offers clear, practical directions.
She also an enthusiastic, curious person who enjoys learning and sharing details about food and the world. I love the range of things she shares online and in her books, from connections in her neighborhood to farmers markets finds, her family’s immigrant experience and local friendships and shopping in California, to the research trips she’s done to learn more about the history behind the dishes she writes about.
Online and in her introductory material, she also offers shopping guides that include grocery store chains as well as specific brands you might only find at markets offering more imported goods. I appreciate her tips on what to keep in your pantry and examples of quick weeknight dinners and how to use leftovers effectively.
The only Pho book you will ever need.
I was looking for a book of recipes for these wonderful soups. Have not yet made them, but love reading the recipes.
Great book on pho! I haven’t tried them yet, but the recipes seem totally do-able for a first timer. I like the fact that reasons are given for why you want to use specific ingredients and why you want to prepare them (i.e., char, broil, etc) a certain way before using them in the recipe. I especially like that there is a vegan version of this wonderful soup!
Endless variations on the Pho theme with easy to follow directions.
