“Comes up bright and new every time I read it . . . it will continue to charm and delight for a very long time yet.” –Phillip Pullman, New York Times bestselling author of His Dark Materials With almost 5 million copies sold in the 60 years since it was published, generations of readers have journeyed with Milo to the Lands Beyond in this beloved classic.Enriched by Jules Feiffer’s splendid … Feiffer’s splendid illustrations, the wit, wisdom, and wordplay of Norton Juster’s offbeat fantasy are as beguiling as ever. For Milo, everything’s a bore. When a tollbooth mysteriously appears in his room, he drives through only because he’s got nothing better to do. But on the other side, things seem different. Brilliant read. This book was delightfully absurd the whole way through and I really enjoyed the journey through a strange land.
I am in love with this charming, enchanting little classic. What a wonderful, marvelous, tale about words, letters, puns, jokes, equations, riddles and a whole lot of sensible nonsense! The characters are uniquely developed as well. Tock the dog; Mr. Humbug, Mr. Whether or The Which (yes, those are spelled in the correct context)!!

Up until several weeks ago I’d never heard of The Phantom Tollbooth. Then it appeared on Facebook and I read an excerpt. One or two pages in and I was hooked.
Norton Juster creates a charming and humorous fantasy playground for children and adults. Milo, the little boy, Tock, the clock dog, and Humbug, the almost human insect, go adventuring …
Anybody who is thinking about writing as a career, hobby, or job, should read this. Words are a pleasure that should not be tossed around lightly and Mr. Juster helps us recognize the best words in our language and how wonderfully subtle each and every one can be. Better than a thesaurus for inspiration. Definitely an adult book from an author …
What a terrific, charming book. It’s the story of how Milo, a young and very bored little boy, traveled to a strange land and discovered wonder. Written for young people, I think it has appeal for people of all ages. It is full of humor, life lessons and satire. In some ways it reminds me of Alice in Wonderland (actually, I like it better than …
This is my all time favorite book. Must read classic. I reread it almost every year. Great read to remind you that curiosity is adventure.
This book was a lot of fun to read. Gave me many laughs. I can’t believe I’ve never known about this book. Why isn’t it talked about or a movie made on it? In a way it had an Alice in Wonderland feel to it for me which might be why I enjoyed it so much.
I remember seeing this book when I was about five years old and thinking, “That’s the kind of book grown-ups read.” I had already made up my mind it was going to be realistic, which made it so much more wonderful when I picked it up at age ten to realize that the dog with a clock for a body on the cover was a character and it took place in a …
Great read for all ages. Each time you read it you will discover something else! I read it for the first time in university when my roommate recommended it. A classic!
