A feature film in 2012 starring Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, and Paul Rudd and written and directed by the author — the provocative and poignant “coming-of-age tale in the tradition of The Catcher in the Rye and A Separate Peace” (USA Today) that has affected an entire generation of young people.
Standing on the fringes of life offers a unique perspective. But there comes a time to see what it … there comes a time to see what it looks like from the dance floor. This haunting novel about the dilemma of passivity vs. passion has become a modern classic.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is the story of what it’s like to grow up in high school. More intimate than a diary, Charlie’s letters are singular and unique, hilarious and devastating. We may not know where he lives or to whom he is writing. All we know is the world he shares. Caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it puts him on a strange course through uncharted territory. The world of first dates and mixed tapes, family dramas and new friends. The world of sex, drugs, and music — when all one requires to feel infinite is that perfect song on that perfect drive.
Through Charlie, Stephen Chbosky has created a deeply affecting story, a powerful novel that will spirit you back to those wild and poignant roller coaster days known as growing up.

Great coming-of-age tale. I would not like it nearly as much if I read it now for the first time, as compared to reading it at 16.
This book is one that has the capability to change lives and is one everyone should read at some point in their lives.
thought-provoking
A must-read for any teen who feels they don’t fit in, or someone who wants to better understand the human race.
Great to use along with The Catcher in the Rye when teaching.
this book is so amazing and very helpful especially for anyone who’s going through a rough time and this for everyone who questions society
One of my favorites. I’m not a re-reader of books however this is on my annual reread list. (A Monster Calls is too).
I’ve read this book probably five times—one of my favorites. Must read.
This book was entertaining, but nothing special.
interesting, but depressing
The representation of what high school students go through is highly realistic and on target.
Nice coming of age novel with a plot twist I did not see coming. You won’t be sorry you read this. Good for adults and young adults
I would not recommend this book for younger audiences in the YA genre. I think 16-18+ is probably more appropriate. That being said, it does go over many issues I think teens do need to read about. I saw the movie first, this is not something I normally do, and I kind of hate that I did, but luckily it did not ruin my experience of the book. The …
A wonderful story about a boy who is anything but ordinary. One of my favorites!
What a great book. Most adult readers share in some if not all of the feelings and actions of these young characters. Very moving story !
I expected young adult, but the plot had much more than the typical young adult issues. It is a very dark book and I struggled along with the protagonist to get through his freshman year. His parents were loving and caring, but then clueless as to the major damage being done to their son. The list of suggested books from his English teacher was a …
This is on my list of all time favorite books. It is one of those novels that rings a bell inside your soul and you keep reverberating back to it at every stage of your life.
It is a really good book. My daughters and I love this book. We could not put it down.
This is one of my all-time favorite books. I love how relatable the story of being a wallflower is to my own life. I also can’t get enough of the trio of Charlie, Sam, and Patrick. They are just amazing and so entertaining. The story also has some heart wrenching moments that just made me cry a lot. I base my ratings off of how much emotion I feel …
Wonderful book
