Criminal profiler in training (and newlywed) Jessie Hunt, 29, discovers that dark secrets lurk in her new suburban town; when a body turns up dead, she finds herself caught in the crosshairs of her newfound friends, her husband’s secrets, her serial killer caseload—and the secrets of her own dark past.
In THE PERFECT WIFE (A Jessie Hunt Psychological Suspense Thriller—Book One), Criminal … Criminal profiler-in-training Jessie Hunt is sure she’s finally put the darkness of her childhood behind her. She and her husband, Kyle, just moved from a cramped downtown Los Angeles apartment into a Westport Beach mansion. Kyle’s promotion has them swimming in money. And Jessie is on the verge of getting her Master’s degree in forensic psychology, the last step in her dream of becoming a criminal profiler.
But soon after their arrival, Jessie begins to notice a series of strange developments. The neighbors—and their au pairs—all seem to be hiding secrets. The mysterious yacht club Kyle is desperate to join is rife with cheating spouses, and with troubling rules of its own. And the notorious serial killer being held at the psychiatric hospital where Jessie is completing her degree seems to know more about her life than is normal—or safe.
As her world starts to unravel, Jessie begins to question everything around her—including her own sanity. Has she truly uncovered a disturbing conspiracy buried within a sunny, wealthy Southern California beach town? Does the mass murderer she’s studying really somehow know the origin of her private nightmares?
Or has her tortured past finally come back to claim her?

more
As the first book in a series, this one sets up the character history of Jessica. There are some nice twists and surprises in there along with a creepy criminal who turns out to be a supporter. I’ll probably see where the next book takes everyone.
I can usually figure out the twists but this one surprised me!
Really enjoyed the book. Need to read the next one…
Always wondered what a perfect wife would be and believe me, I will never be one. She had everything going for her except the person that didn’t want her to be perfect. She didn’t let it slow her down from getting to the bottom of the problem. She really was the perfect wife when she finally got rid of the thorn in her side.
Creepy!!
This has serial killers and psychopaths, so who couldn’t resist it. Second audiobook I have listened to this year. Jessie is a newlywed and trying to finish her masters in Forensic Psychology. It has a lot of twists and turns. At the first of the book, you are left wondering what has happened to her in the past. The author did a good job of keeping you wondering until nearly the end of the book. I would have enjoyed it more, I think if there had been a different narrator.
Good read.
Light reading.
Kind of all over the map. Two completely different plots that never blended.
Yesss! **SPOILERS**
This book had me on edge.. I couldn’t wait to find out what Crutchfield knew! And when he said her name during their first interview I literally had chills and had to calm myself down! I wish we could of had more interactions between the two, but each interaction did not disappoint. && I want to know how he knows all theses details if the MENTOR only visited once ..??
I am still curious about the panel and why she was able to interview the guy even though she was way under qualified. Maybe we’ll find out in the other books of the series..?
Towards the middle when Jessie gets dizzy on the boat, I knew immediately that Kyle drugged her. It was obvious. But still a good plot. And the miscarriage was super sad but a blessing at the same time since Kyle ends up being a sociopath that likes killing people and a pathological liar.
What happens to the other ladies after the club gets sold? And Teddy? Poor Teddy! I really disliked him at first, but then I felt bad for him because he really was just clueless.
All in all.. this was a good book & I immediately went and bought books 2 & 3 of the series.. I’ll get the others when the time comes to read them. I’ve also followed this author on amazon so that I can get updates. I really enjoyed this book and the suspense and chills it gave me. I also liked that it wasn’t long, therefore it wasn’t drawn out.. it got right into the action and kept the action (suspense) going .. it didn’t linger on dumb details like, the colors of trees or something boring.
Great book. Good read. I didn’t give it 5 stars b/c of the lingering questions I have and I’m not sure if they’ll be answered in the next books.
The end
worth more than a glance. I enjoyed it.
Characters were not developed enough.
The story line is unusual and very interesting. The characters are well-developed and the writing is good. There is a twist at the end.
Since reading The Perect Wife I have read the next two in the series and probably will read the next three. Then I read Trace of Death and hope to read that series too. Black Pierce is becoming one of my favorite authors.
I like this author enjoy his books
Was a good book
Kept you wondering
This is a very good book. Two simultaneous stories are going on, the present day one of a young woman moving to a new suburb and finding lots of interesting (in a bad way) things going on and one from the past with painful memories. Very entertaining and did not want to put it down.
Great read, it twisted and turned and the end was a huge surprise, loved it
I couldn’t put it down-read it in a day. Can’t wait to start the sequels.
