Criminal profiler in training (and newlywed) Jessie Hunt, 29, discovers that dark secrets lurk in her new suburban town; when a body turns up dead, she finds herself caught in the crosshairs of her newfound friends, her husband’s secrets, her serial killer caseload—and the secrets of her own dark past.
In THE PERFECT WIFE (A Jessie Hunt Psychological Suspense Thriller—Book One), Criminal … Criminal profiler-in-training Jessie Hunt is sure she’s finally put the darkness of her childhood behind her. She and her husband, Kyle, just moved from a cramped downtown Los Angeles apartment into a Westport Beach mansion. Kyle’s promotion has them swimming in money. And Jessie is on the verge of getting her Master’s degree in forensic psychology, the last step in her dream of becoming a criminal profiler.
But soon after their arrival, Jessie begins to notice a series of strange developments. The neighbors—and their au pairs—all seem to be hiding secrets. The mysterious yacht club Kyle is desperate to join is rife with cheating spouses, and with troubling rules of its own. And the notorious serial killer being held at the psychiatric hospital where Jessie is completing her degree seems to know more about her life than is normal—or safe.
As her world starts to unravel, Jessie begins to question everything around her—including her own sanity. Very interesting and on edge!!
Lot of twists and turns. The end was unpredictable and quite scary
page turner, unexpected ending
Great book! I have already ordered the next two in the series!
This book was well written, and opened my eyes to the possibility of what can happen!
I don’t believe everything I hear or read, but anything is possible.
This is the first in a series and while giving you the background of Jessie’s life for her career in forensic profiling, you get all the dirty background of her childhood and her way creepy husband. Its hard to read and yet, you want to understand this woman and her motivations and you root for her to succeed. She does, and the twists of fate do make her stronger.
An excellent book with an intrigueing storyline. Something very different and enjoyable. It was also perfectly proof-read, which is so unusual these days. Huge kudos for that, even apart from the story itself. This makes such a massive difference to the fluidity of the reading experience. Can’t wait to read other books by this author.
I could not put this book down! I love reading Blake Pierce and once again, I was not disappointed! Great book!
AWESOME!!!!!
Blake Pierce is my newest go-to-author!! Never disappointed
Fast moving tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat to the very end.
Wow – could be realistic. I have known some sociopaths in my long life and they just might have been capable of these actions.
Suspenseful with many plot twists and red herrings
“The Perfect Wife” by Blake Pierce is a psychological thriller readers will not be able to put down. It is the story of Jessie Hunt and her husband Kyle Voss who have moved from downtown Los Angeles to the suburb of Westport Beach, California. Jessie and Kyle met in college, have known each other for ten years and have been married for the last two of those years. Jessie is still attending graduate school, specializing in criminal profiling. Her goal is to join the FBI or a local or state police force when she graduates. Jessie and Kyle had to move out of Los Angeles because Kyle’s company opened a new branch out of Los Angeles and Kyle has been given a very lucrative job in the new company office. Jessie is unhappy about the move, having to switch universities and make new friends. She misses the sounds and sites of Los Angeles and she misses her friends. As Jessie meets the wives of Westport Beach, she finds them seemingly lacking in anything but the desire to discuss their roles as wives and mothers. She keeps her feelings to herself, knowing that her husband is very happy with his new house, his new job and his old school friend Teddy. Kyle tells her that he wants them to join Teddy,s club, Club Deseo which he says Teddy told him means “Club of Wishes”. Kyle says joining the club will be a very good source of clients for him. When Jessie gets to the club she finds that most of the dinner conversation is about upcoming club events. After dinner, the men go off to a secret room behind a door that seems to be guarded by a man in a tuxedo and the women stay behind, talking about child-rearing and which schools are the best for their children. Jessie is not happy at the club and as time goes by, she realizes that Kyle is spending more and more time at the club or playing golf so he can get new customers for his business. Jessie has trouble sleeping and is very unhappy when she has to attend endless dinners at the club. The only thing she looks forward to is going to her last college class and getting her master’s degree in Forensic Psychology. Her thesis had already been accepted by a committee at her former university so all she will have to do is have a practicum at a prison or a facility, DSH-Metro, that has a secret ‘high risk” unit housing the “criminally insane”. Jessie tells her professor, Professor Hosta, that she wants to go to the DSH-Metro and explains that she did her thesis on the criminally insane who are incarcerated and cannot be rehabilitated. In order to get her thesis accepted, she had to sign a non-disclosure agreement and when she goes to DSH-Metro, she has to sign a similar agreement. Readers wonder why Jessie is so interested in these types of criminals and accompany her to the facility several times as she interviews Bolton Crutchfield, a man who has no remorse after having killed nineteen people in a period of several years. Readers wonder why Jessie has to take anxiety pills and has to visit a psychiatrist. They wonder why she only wanted to interview Crutchfield. Readers also wonder whether Jessie will remain “The Good Wife” to Kyle and whether their marriage and life outside of Los Angeles will last. I highly recommend “The Perfect Wife” by Blake Pierce to anyone who enjoys reading psychological thrillers because this book is indeed a thriller they will not be able to put down.
I like his books but it would be nice if they were more then 175 to 200 pages long. I can spend the same money and get an actual novel length book
Well Blake Pierce, you are one of my most favorite authors and this has got to be up there as one if not, the best yet. Well done.
This is one of several series Blake Pierce has written about strong women law enforcement officers. Quick to break rules, Pierce’s agents are dedicated to their work and generally do a decent job of balancing their work and home lives.
This book is available for free on Amazon, as are the first books of most, if not all, of Pierce’s series starters.
In the first book in a series about a profiler still in school and at the beginning of her law enforcement career, we meet Jessie Hunt. She’s been married for 10 years and she and her husband have just moved into a lavish lifestyle involving a secretive and very expensive club. She struggles to adjust to this but finds that nothing is as it seems.
I read at least a third of this book some time ago but put it down because it was barely slogging along. I picked it back up again a couple of days ago, not wanting to leave it unfinished. Towards the end my head was spinning as I tried to keep up with all the surprising twists and turns. I will read the next books in this series. My library has the next few of them.
I highly recommend Pierce’s series. There are many to choose from with several books each. There is no sex and very little, if any, vulgar language in Pierce’s books, a huge plus for me. My favorite is the Riley Paige series, with the 17th book recently being published.
The Perfect Wife by
Blake Pierce.
This is book 1 of the Jessie Hunt series.
A very good read. Great story and plot. Good characters. Looking forward to the next book. 4*
This is a fairly quick read. There are plenty of twists and turns in this book that held my interest and made this psychological thriller interesting end an enjoyable read. I love psychological thrillers and although this isn’t the best I’ve read, it’s also nowhere near the worst. This is a good read and a nice way to spend a few hours.
