Criminal profiler in training (and newlywed) Jessie Hunt, 29, discovers that dark secrets lurk in her new suburban town; when a body turns up dead, she finds herself caught in the crosshairs of her newfound friends, her husband’s secrets, her serial killer caseload—and the secrets of her own dark past.
In THE PERFECT WIFE (A Jessie Hunt Psychological Suspense Thriller—Book One), Criminal … Criminal profiler-in-training Jessie Hunt is sure she’s finally put the darkness of her childhood behind her. She and her husband, Kyle, just moved from a cramped downtown Los Angeles apartment into a Westport Beach mansion. Kyle’s promotion has them swimming in money. And Jessie is on the verge of getting her Master’s degree in forensic psychology, the last step in her dream of becoming a criminal profiler.
But soon after their arrival, Jessie begins to notice a series of strange developments. The neighbors—and their au pairs—all seem to be hiding secrets. The mysterious yacht club Kyle is desperate to join is rife with cheating spouses, and with troubling rules of its own. And the notorious serial killer being held at the psychiatric hospital where Jessie is completing her degree seems to know more about her life than is normal—or safe.
As her world starts to unravel, Jessie begins to question everything around her—including her own sanity. Has she truly uncovered a disturbing conspiracy buried within a sunny, wealthy Southern California beach town? Does the mass murderer she’s studying really somehow know the origin of her private nightmares?
Or has her tortured past finally come back to claim her?

more
There are a few different things going on throughout this book and the author takes you through some interesting twists and turns. This could be made into a pretty good movie probably. It kept me intrigued to the end.
This is one of those psychological thrillers that will boggle your mind! There are two secrets–one the wife has about her early childhood–and then the one her husband has. He is a sociopath but no one ever figures it out until she does. He manipulates people and then as she finds out–even her!!
I don’t want to give anything away so I will say no more except–the ending will floor you and probably make you want to read the next in the series like it did me!!
Run – Jessie – Run! Excellent plot. I binged on this audio book—it’s a “can’t put it down” story. Book one in the Jessie Hunt series drops you into the drama and never lets up.
I’m late to the party on this book but I really enjoyed it. It has everything – the California setting, those small town characters, a fabulous backstory for the protagonist, and a forensic profiling theme which is something I’m spending a lot of time writing about at the moment. It’s a veer well written book that you’ll be able to let take you somewhere new. Well drawn characters, and a gripping plot. This is perfect for thriller lovers interested in criminal psychology.
This is the 5th book I’ve read written by Blake Pierce; he has done a great job at writing a good book; I will definitely be reading more of his books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I received a free copy of this book via booksprout and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.
I like this book overall, but there were quite a few typos. Some of the plot seemed implausible & unbelievable. And the ending was unexpected, which was good, but it was also kind of a cliffhanger into the future, which I do not like. I like my books to have a complete ending.
Everything he writes is a page turner
This one will have you looking twice at everyone . . . and isn’t that what a good thriller is all about?
I came across Blake Pierce through a website that posts pre-publication novels for bloggers and reviewers to read and review – free. I was hooked from that very first book. Pierce has several series out, Jessie Hunt is one I’m just starting to get into.
Perfect Wife is filled with complex characters that keep you wondering. Blake’s narrative is chock full of twists and red herrings, but the explosive conclusion is not one you’d easily have imagined. I read it in one sitting . . . I think you will too.
Best part? This isn’t a new series so there are a few episodes of – like me – binge reading series is what you do instead of binge-watching. Number Two is queued up next!
It shows that you really can’t know anyone or no one is what they seem. Don’t be going off & if your new nabors seem weird pay attention. Really creepy book.
Interesting start to a series. Though Jess Hunt is not always likeable she gets the job done. The writing is good as is the buildup of suspense.
I also bought a copy.
I like this author. Never disappoints.
A so-so story, not very believable in my opinion. Didn’t make me care that much about the main character or want to follow her into the next book(s) in this series.
Not one of my favorites. I was not fond of the title character and the plot was not entirely believeable. But I am reading another of the authors’ books and am enjoying it much better..
Excellent read
The novel proceeds at a swift pace. The author tends to get into emotions of the various characters in the story and details which are not relevant to the story. Fortunately, these ‘side-shows’ are short and quickly return to the original plot. Overall, a good book for the weekend.
So times didn’t make sense but on a whole, it was a good read.
The Perfect Wife truly was a thriller, incredibly engaging, believable story of a female grad student studying profiling, keenly aware of those around her, curious about the story behind their actions, and gifted at observing…everyone except…
The author has a gift for crafting story. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy thrillers.
At first I thought it would be a stepford wives tale but it is much more.
Jessie’s tragedies would overwhelm most people. I was aware of the pieces but didn’t put it all together, or didn’t want to put it all together. Just like an Alex Cross book, this one made me look for duplicity behind people’s smiles.
Excellent first book in a series. Protagonist is conflicted in a most interesting way.
Great writing and flow.
