It was the storm of the century, boasting waves over one hundred feet high–a tempest created by so rare a combination of factors that meteorologists deemed it “the perfect storm.” In a book that has become a classic, Sebastian Junger explores the history of the fishing industry, the science of storms, and the candid accounts of the people whose lives the storm touched. The Perfect Storm is a … real-life thriller that makes us feel like we’ve been caught, helpless, in the grip of a force of nature beyond our understanding or control.Winner of the American Library Association’s 1998 Alex Award.

Action packed, suspenseful, heartwarming real life story of long boat tuna fishermen fighting for their lives caught in the storm of the century. The book leaves you thinking about these brave Ben abd their families long after you’ve finished the book. A classic.
I picked this up after reading Dead Reckoning by another fisherman, Dave Atcheson. The comparison to The Perfect Storm was spot on.
Like Dead Reckoning, The Perfect Storm takes a close, nonfictional look at the fishing industry and the innumerable dangers that surround it. The story was both moving and informative and left me with a deep …
The Perfect Storm is a book in which you will know the ending before you begin to read as it is a true story of a storm which occurred in October 1991 on the Northeastern coast. The crew of six men were all lost so there are no first hand reports of the epic battle of nature versus a small fishing boat. The author does a great job of making a …
I needed this good book@TruRevieThe Healer
I am partial to gritty, tough bars where men eye you like they could pick you apart and hardened women wonder whether you’d survive. But once the bluster eases, and if you return often, you can be accepted among some of the toughest people alive. It is a toughness tempered by pain, disappointment, suffering, and a zestful appreciation of the rare …
Wow! Powerful! Author did a great job!
I’ve watched the movie at least a dozen times. The book (as always) is a million times better. Although this book describes a tragedy, it also shows the strength of the people involved.
Saw movie 11st. Wanted to read the real story.
This book took the characters and made the ship parts very believable. I could put myself into what they were going through and although knew how it was going end, held out hope that maybe someone was going to make it. The last chapter was really sad.
This book was rather a let down after seeing the George Clooney version. It spent time discussing other wrecks and how storms happen on the high seas. It is more fact filled than a story.
This a hard read, not just because everybody knows the tragic outcome, but the technical terminology. The author does an excellent job explaining the nuances of the fishing industry and meteorology.
I came away with sense of awe at the people who choose commercial fishing as a livelihood
Very interesting information about the men who do this. Good character development and scenario descriptions.
True story
Read the book. It’s much better than the film.
Excellent
