The devil is in the detail. When true-crime writer Alexandria Weston is found murdered on the last stop of her book tour for The Devil Wakes, a story about the life and death of serial killer Elias Pratt, fellow writer Joss Jax steps in to investigate. Joss’s search reveals disturbing details from Alexandria’s past, and a long list of enemies, each with a secret to hide. Just when Joss believes … secret to hide. Just when Joss believes she’s solved the mystery, an unexpected twist rises to the surface, a twist so deadly it unearths Elias Pratt from the grave and changes the lives of those who knew him forever.

The story starts out with the death of the famous writer. Although she wrote the “true” story detailing the criminal Elias, the real story is quite different.
I liked that the book went in a different direction than what I expected. The characters were flushed out and realistic. I liked the story line and the interaction between the characters. The ending was satisfying. I look forward to reading more of her books.
The plot was too convoluted for me. I had trouble making the leap of faith necessary to believe that all the many characters were able to each keep their secrets for so long. Hard to believe, too, that the main character could happen upon the key to unlocking everyone’s secret just at the right time. Actually, I did not much care for Joss, the main character. I didn’t like the way she treated her mother, didn’t like her binge drinking, guilt wallowing and self-centered attitude–none of that added anything to the storyline.
I enjoyed this book. The story was inaccurate as it was set in New Orleans and referred to sitting at a cafe and viewing the ocean. The water you can see in New Orleans is the Mississippi River or Lake Pontchartrain. From downtown the view would be of the river. The book never explained how and why the protagonist had sec with the murderer.
good reading. thoroughly enjoyed
Solid characters with a great pace
A story with so many twists and turns with various characters intwined. Kept me wondering what more could possibly happen and who was behind the murder with several unexpected secrets revealed.
Like most of Ms. Bradshaw’s books wherein she weaves a spectacular story with lots of intrique, suspense and keeps you guessing.
Interesting plot, characters, and pacing. Easy summer reading.

This book kept me interested from the first chapter. The story unfolds in unexpected ways. A good read.
Emotions are powerful and how you hold on to them makes all the difference in your life. The characters in the book play out scenarios of love, hate, revenge, murder, and more. An excellent book to keep you turning pages to find out who did it.
Good book
Lots of twists and turns as truth is revealed.
Enjoyed it all until the ending, which seemed very contrived.
