Whenever I pick up a YA book I always wonder if I will be able to relate to the characters. High school ended 58 years ago for me, but I was able to drawn back. I understand the passion for a sport because I did follow a granddaughter around the country while she played volleyball. Britney M. Mills does a wonderful job of presenting that passion, the agony of first love and parental issues. This is a very realistic and enjoyable book.
A good clean YA romance about a baseball player overcoming his shyness to ask out the girl of his dreams; and the girl of his dreams facing her problems with her grades, injuries and parents.
I enjoyed reading it and would recommend it.
Really enjoyed the characters, Serena and Ben have problems lots of teenagers do. A great story for YA facing problems that teens go through in high school. Sports, family problems and of course dating are just some of what the characters deal with. The author does a great job of solving the issues while still keeping the story fun and interesting. A sweet clean romance that as a parent you are content with your teen reading. Britney Mills writes great stories for adult and teens that are sure to wrap you in the pages and that are clean reads. I love everything I’ve read by her!
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
Serena was the neglected daughter of a pro football player and a fashion designer and played volleyball for the school team. Ben was a talented pitcher for the school’s baseball team and was a perfectionist with the things he did. When Ben asked Serena out things went slow but fun. But their lives became problematic for their relationship the more Serena and Ben began to like each other. Personal problems, parents, miscommunication, misunderstanding and age take part in keeping Serena and Ben’s relationship from reaching its potential until the moment they realize what really matters. Good read

This is the second installment of the Rosemont High Baseball series. I typically don’t read YA stories, but Ms. Mills does them so well, and does such a great job of focusing on real issues, I’ve definitely developed a liking for them. Serena and Ben are wonderful characters. Ben is a little shy and has some anxiety issues, while Serena is his total opposite. An odd pairing, but also perfect for each other. They both also have their personal issues to deal with. I enjoyed watching these characters grow and develop and realize what is really important in life and in a relationship. A very sweet and clean story that will warm your heart. Loved this installment and looking forward to the next one!

This is a sweet high school romance about a baseball player and a volleyball player. Both committed to their sports but also trying to find time for each other. I really liked the character of Ben. He is a shy kid with a stutter and some anxiety and perfectionist issues. He definitely need to work on putting too much importance on baseball, but that’s typical of a high schooler. Serena is a feisty and sarcastic girl, so she’s kind of a funny match for a shy boy like Ben. They have issues to work through, which again is typical for a relationship but especially a high school relationship. The book has a very sweet HFN ending and I hope for an HEA further down the line for these two.

I loved so many things about this book.
The banter between Serena and Ben was great. I loved how shy he was at first and how he stuttered. It was nice seeing a main male character who wasn’t a smooth talker. At first Serena seemed a bit like some of the athletes I knew back in school – skated by because she was a top athlete, never really needing to put in too much effort to be able to pass. But then I began to realize that it was because she didn’t think anyone cared really if she passed or not.
I wish there had been a bit more description of the families, especially Serena’s. I didn’t initially get that her dad was a football player and that her mom was a fashion designer. Things weren’t laid out nice and neat for me and I had to hope that there was some more information later in the book. I did like that Ben’s family included a brother with special needs instead of a sibling with a behavioral problem.
The dialogue in the book was great and there were times where I wanted to smack both of them upside the head. And there were also times where the book tended to drag just a bit. But overall it was fantastic and I very much enjoyed it.
This was the second book in a series, but can completely be read as a standalone. Yes, some of the characters overlapped since they were all part of the same friend group, but there is no reason that you should feel lost if you haven’t read the first book.

Another wonderful story by the author. Each of her stories seem to focus on real issues. It’s not about how much money someone has, or how much power, it’s about the things that matter – how you treat a person, how you deal with your faults and how you let it affect your choices. This is the story of Serena and Ben. Serena is a volleyball player who has it good – friends, money, and two parents who don’t seem to make time for her. Ben is a pitcher for the HS baseball team who is very shy and very uncomfortable being around girls. He finds it very difficult to strike up a conversation. However, when he runs into Serena, he feels an instant attraction to her. Serena feels the same way about Ben, but because both of them are dealing internally with being the “perfect” version as they are seen, they both think it’s not possible the other wants to actually be around them.
There are so many ups and downs throughout this story. Because of these ups and downs, both characters were able to grow and see what was really important. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy through Booksprout ARC’s for an honest review.
Rating:
This book was so much fun. The characters showed lots of growth throughout the story. Even the side characters became better as the novel went on. I loved the ups and downs of Ben and Serena’s relationship. I liked how they admitted to their faults and overall made the other a better person. The story was wonderfully written. I had so much reading it. At points, I was totally for Serena’s view and then suddenly switched my opinion to like Ben better. The characters, story, and writing were strong and this is a story worth reading.

This is such a sweet book. I love how shy Ben is and how much he adores his little brother. Serena is spunky and just looking for someone who will want to spend time and energy with her. Both Serena and Ben show a ton of maturity and work so well through their problems during the story. This story was fun to read.
For the second book in the series, I loved how the characters were so different from book one. It was refreshing and entertaining and see young love from a different set of people with different problems to work though. Another fun, light read.
I Highly Recommend This!
Ben suffers from anxiety, likely exacerbated by a father who is so demanding that it falls into the category of verbally abusive. Like many boys with fathers like this, he now stutters.
Serena is chronically ignored by her parents and suffers abandonment issues. Since her folks offer her a lavish lifestyle, she is left feeling guilty for her feelings.
This is a book that explores deep issues and yet has that Britney Mills ray of sunshine peeking through the story. I loved it!
