Asher Curbain is the Perfect Duke. He places duty before himself and wants to see everyone content but locks himself away behind walls as thick as his country estate’s. Lady Wycliff just wants to be independent and have nobody decide her life for her.
Ms Wilson delivers in the third book of the Valiant love series. She produces real characters with depth and pulls you into the story that you cannot put the book down. She writes good clean stories with virtue and honour that is rare in today’s literature. Sometimes you just want to read a story with good energy and chemistry without the sex thrown in.
I would recommend this and the previous books with pleasure.
Another gripping story in the series
This is another gripping story to continue the series. The plot has the characters negotiating an emotional journey that also has a bit of mystery
I loved this story. It’s the perfect romance with characters that are real. It seems the Duke of Ayers is not the stogy man portrayed in the first two novels. The perfection in this story is that these two actually have the same issue, but their chemistry for each other is electrifying.
SETTING: 31 year old Everly Wycliff is an independent woman working to advance the knowledge of women in her circle by holding a “school” (or lectures) regularly in her home. Having never married, she is looked upon as a strong woman, capable of caring for herself and her household. However, as her friends and relatives marry and begin having babies, she begins to realize that she does desire to have children, but not at the cost of her independence. With the correct man, who would support her thinking for herself on many matters, it is not inconceivable that she would wed. However, in Regency England, there is a dearth of likely candidates with that disposition.
Enter Asher Corbin, Duke of Ayers, a widower of 39 who has more or less withdrawn from society and displays no sign of wanting to marry again. He is perfectly content to allow his younger brother to anticipate inheriting the title and passing it on down through his son. Everly and Asher are brought together when her cousin Diane marries another younger brother. This gives opportunity for the true nature of each to be revealed to the other, and for the attraction to begin. The poisonous snakes of society, each with their own motives, places blame on Everly for the theft of diamonds at a costume party, resulting in the jailing of Everly, and public shaming by a jealous young woman.
Who will come to the rescue for Everly? Will she be released from jail to try to determine who the actual thief was? Will the budding relationship between Asher and Everly be crushed before ever it blooms? Will the jealous young woman grab the prize of the Duke’s heart?
CRITIQUE: I enjoyed the storyline, and could not put the book down until finished. The characters were fleshed out, and especially Asher seemed a noble, strong character and powerfully made certain ‘truth and justice prevailed’. There were twists and turns enough that the coming together of the H & h in matrimony was not assured until the end, as the weaknesses of both raised barriers that threatened the union. As this is the 3rd book about the Curbains, there is some continuity between the books, but each is a stand-alone book. I look forward to seeing if the author continues writing in this ‘world’, as there is still the sister Valiant who needs to build a new life for herself. It is clean romance, appropriate for all ages.
The Perfect Duke was such a wonderful story. I loved every minute of it. Deborah Wilson is such a great storyteller. All the characters come to life. I recommend this title. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
Ashe and Everly
Finally Assurance’s story. We have been waiting for his story to be written and the author has not disappointed this reader.
As head of the Curbain family there is a lot of responsibility for Ash to shoulder. Due to issues from his past he does not let any one close to him believing that it is the safest form of protection.
Now Everly on the other hand has had the most horrific upbringing that a woman could possibly have and she now controls her destiny.
Is it any wonder that these two clash when they meet? Each thinking the now the other best but until a situation arises will their mistaken knowledge be brought to the fore.
The author has done justice to both of the characters that have appeared in all of the previous books in this series and I applaud her effort in creating a world for Ash and Everly to finally know each other without side influence.
I have voluntarily read and reviewed the book without obligation to the author.
I love this series! The Curbain family, with names such as Assurance, Hero, Laurel, and Valiant, and with courage and honor to their marrow! And the not so ordinary man and women who are noble enough to be their othe half!
This was the story of Assurance, or Asher, and the amazing Lady Everly, who taught him that he, too, was allowed to enjoy happiness, as he helped her learn that independence didn’t need to be alone. There were some editing issues, but not enough to take away from the story.
This series is so good and even though they can be read as stand alone books, I would suggest reading the complete series and people from previous books are included.
Our hero, in this book is Asher Curbain, the Duke of Ayers. He has taken his title of Duke very seriously and everything he does is for the betterment of the Dukedom. He is; however, overwhelmed with duties and is also haunted by his past, which keeps him from really being closed to his family.
Our heroine, Lady Everly Wycliff has also lived with a dark past that has left her with strong feelings that she will never depend on a man for her happiness or well being and will always find a way to care for herself..
Everly and Asher never planned to marry but fate sometimes steps in and changes things. The tale Deborah Wilson weaves is one with suspense, humor, secrets, romance,, love and such endearing characters that you feel you are there with them.
This book and series is great and you will not be disappointed if you choose to read them. I am already looking forward to the next one in the series!
