A story that proves that we are all perfectly imperfect and we all have battle scars. This story shows how the strain of being perfect can lead to real scars. Cameron and Louella were meant to be together and their story is full of ups and downs. When they were together it was like they were new people not afraid to be themselves. I wanted to scream every time her mother spoke to her because she just made things worse. You will go through a rollercoaster of emotions reading this. There are many heartwarming moments especially the one with little Luke.
Louella has been told she is perfect and the strain is too much for anyone. She broke my heart every time she went to her sewing box and when she was trying to explain it. But this story shows her journey and the struggle to stop hurting herself. I wanted to cheer the moment it changed for her.
Cameron has always wanted to be himself and understands that people have flaws. He doesn’t pretend to understand why, but tries to and to help her when she needs it. My heart broke for him with the news about the mine. He always had her best interest from the start. I loved that he also had an imperfection from the start.
The ending will warm your heart with it being perfectly imperfect as things should be. I can’t wait for Oliva’s story.
This book does include a trigger warning which I applaud. Cutting is not something I have experience with, but I believe Annabelle did an amazing job. She approached it from all angles and did her research.

A compelling historical romance that has all the elements to make this story captivating. Everything this author writes is exceptional and this one really pulled at my emotions. This tore at my heart about a subject that is hardly ever discussed is brought to the forefront and it really made me have a better understanding all around.
You see the perfect debutante felt anything but perfect. Beautiful beyond compare, well mannered and smart Louella appeared to be everything, especially the answer to her family’s need for money by an arranged marriage. But underneath she was tortured and had the need to cut herself to get relief.
Cameron, Captain Lord Stanton knew her from their childhood and when he came home after being in the war and gone, he had to face the promise he had made his father. To marry the woman of his choosing and that was Louella. His father only looked to gain a treasure from the land Louella’s family owned in exchange for a large sum of money when she married his son.
There was so much in this story that will pull you through an array of emotions, not the least of guilt, regrets, hope and the chance of love. Cameron had his own devils to deal with and he tries to help her as well. But I loved these two so much!
I wanted to get the words just right on this review so that a new reader would want to pick up this book immediately. All I can say is this story will stay with me for a long while and is one of the best I have read so far this year. That is what makes this writer memorable and I encourage you to experience it yourself!
What a wonderful story by Annabelle Anders. It was so very different than most books. It brought attention to one of the issues that some of our adolescents face. She wrote the story so well. While reading I was amazed at how Luella was so much like my niece who went through the same thing. Luella and Cameron emotions had their highs and lows. I loved how they worked through feelings.
Louella Rose is the perfect debutante. Beautiful. Refined. The answer to all her family’s woes. No one knows that beneath her flawless complexion, behind her mesmerizing eyes, she hides her pain in shame.
Cameron promised to marry the woman of his father’s choice by the age of thirty and that time has finally come. To his surprise and delight, the chosen lady is the perfect debutante, for him anyhow, and he couldn’t be happier until he discovers the scars that make no sense – scars that shatter the illusion of perfection.
I highly applaud the author for writing a book where the heroine cuts herself, it’s handled with huge sensitivity, however it made for a very emotional read. I found Louella at the very start to be a feather brain but that opinion changed immediately after her rescue from the boat. I loved Cameron from the start but when they arrived in London & he brought Louella a gift I was totally in pieces & I fell for him all over again. The story flows effortlessly & is a lovely love story of shame and guilt but most of all of understanding. My heart bled for Louella but then rejoiced when she spoke to Luke. I only hope Olivia’s story isn’t as heart wrenching.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Once again Annabelle Anders has gone above and beyond with her latest novel. A gripping tale of heart wrenching emotions that will leave the reader in an mess! Louella Rose is the perfect flawless debutante but she has a secret that if found will make her a pariah her scars run deep…..her shame even deeper!
She’s to marry Cameron Denning the Marquess of Stanton the marriage is by no means a love match it’s a marriage of convenience. Of course she’s duty bound and can’t imagine what her new husband will say. He’s fighting his own internal demons but nothing like Louella.
A long journey to a very difficult but much deserved HEA that deals with a very serious and complex issue. Louella needs help but with everyone turning a blind eye will her husband do the same or does he have what it takes to reach for their HEA!
I applaud Annabelle Anders for an exceptional story I was touched to my very soul! I highly recommend!!!
I received a complimentary copy from the author. This is my honest unbiased opinion.
