I don’t do boyfriends. Or dating. Or random hookups. Not when fictional men do it so much better, and not when my heart has been through the wringer. So when retired MMA fighter Matt Haywood crashes into my life, I’m not impressed. Quite the opposite actually. I avoid him at all costs. At least, I try. His persistence wears me down and it’s me who ends up wandering into his gym looking for more. I … his gym looking for more. I have to admit he’s nothing like I assumed. He’s witty and smart. His physical condition could win awards. Problem is, somewhere between rolling around on the mats together, I let down my guard.
I thought I was over relationships. That I’d never risk my heart again. But he’s out to prove it’s never too late for a comeback.

Liked the aspect that both characters were working through their own demons while trying to build and start a relationship.
I listened to the audio version of this book formerly published as My Undead Heart. This was my first introduction to Kacey Shea and I’m very glad I found her! It was also my first time to hear the dual narration of Stephen Dexter and Virginia Rose. Wow! They were fantastic!
The story of Matt and Mia is not your everyday sports romance. There was a whole lot of stuff in their pasts that really could have ruined their lives. I actually think Matt was the stronger character (no pun intended here, since he was the ex-MMA fighter). He was really pushing the crud life had handed him and forging forward. Mia was more held back by her past and let it form her actions. She was so afraid to let any man control her that she reacted to the smallest incidents, like Matt calling her an Uber to get her home when she was drunk. While in the Uber car, she actually tried to cancel that ride and reorder the same exact car herself.
Even though they had their issues, they were incredible together. Maybe it was just all the incredible hot and funny at the same time portions of the book that Ms. Shea wrote. Boy were they hot! Boy were they funny!
This is actually one of the best books I’ve listened to for awhile. Loved it! Can’t wait for another by Kacey Shea, Stephen Dexter and/or Virginia Rose. Super audiobook!
Man this book kinda made me sad. The way she treats him and his luck. It was truly upsetting. I felt that the relationship was one sided. Oh well. They got their HEA.
When Matt an ex-UFC fighter needs some extra money to keep from losing his gym, one of the side jobs is bouncing at a bar. This is where he meets Mia, only when he meets her she is decked out in zombie gear in hopes to be an extra on her fav show. This is totally new for Matt but he can’t get zombie girl out of his head, after a brief encounter where he helps her out, he slipped her his card for the just in cases. When Mia is haunted by the mishap that happened at the bar, she decides that she needs to call Matt for some self defense classes. Both feel the something more for the other, but Mia fights that something more tooth and nail. Will she give Matt a shot at something more or is no strings attached all she is able to do?
So for me this was an ok book, not horrible but definitely not great either. Mia with the push/pull stuff really started to irk my nerves… once or twice ok.. but this whole thing was Mia pushing Matt away until finally he turned around and pushed her away. I wanted more from the main characters… it seemed like the side characters were getting a better story, and TBH I was more interested in Xavier and his mom vs whether Matt and Mia straightened their crap out. This gets 3.5 stars from me.
Mia and Matt are interesting and entertaining characters. There is drama, intrigue and love in this read that has you turning the pages till done.
