In suburban Georgetown, a killer’s Reeboks whisper on the floor of a posh home. In a seedy D.C. porno house, a patron is swiftly garroted to death. The next day America learns that two of its Supreme Court justices have been assassinated. And in New Orleans, a young law student prepares a legal brief.
To Darby Shaw it was no more than a legal shot in the dark, a brilliant guess. To the Washington … Washington establishment it’s political dynamite. Suddenly Darby is witness to a murder-a murder intended for her. Going underground, she finds that there is only one person-an ambitious reporter after a newsbreak hotter than Watergate-she can trust to help her piece together the deadly puzzle. Somewhere between the bayous of Louisiana and the White House’s inner sanctums, a violent cover-up is being engineered. For someone has read Darby’s brief-someone who will stop at nothing to destroy the evidence of an unthinkable crime.

Engaging and kept you totally involved.
I love all of Grisham’s books, this one did not disappoint!
As always, Grisham develops an interesting and engaging story
I think it’s entertaining and I love the characters.
Grisham at his best! My favorite to this point. He is an origional!
Outstanding! Read it several years ago because someone left it on the airplane! I took it home and enjoyed it and said to myself, this should be made into a movie…and of course, it was! But as always the movies are never as good as the books themselves.
Snowflake
John Grisham writes interesting, novels. He is one of my favorites.
Great book
This is Grisham at his best! A great plot with interesting characters
I liked that the female protagonist was smart and took action to find out who killed her lover. It inspired me to make my female protagonist smart and active, too.
A goodread
One of Grisham’s best novels. I couldn’t put it down
By now most of us are familiar with the basic story line of The Pelican Brief, having read this book, or seen the movie / TV version, or both. I rank this up with Grisham’s best, but unlike some of his others, I haven’t re-read it yet because of the plots familiarity. If you’ve not yet read it, or have forgotten the plot, it’s Grisham at his best.
Unroll you read that last word on that last page it’s a hard to read. Comprehending this book weeks later is the amazing thing about it. You will then understand you love it.
This was one of my favorite Grisham books and one of the best made into a movie. He has carved out his niche and honed it well. Always ready to read or occasionally reread some of my favorites such as this one,
I read this book some time ago. The first pages caught my attention with a scene of a boy smoking a cigarette. It set the precedent for the main plot of the story with how the main characters uncover the crime(s) of a self-made man who stopped at nothing to retain his wealth and reach.
One of his best.
Will keep you on edge!
One of his best…just loved it.
Great book hard to put down. Story line is well thought out and researched.
