I never thought a pecker would get me in so much trouble.I mean, sure… if you’re talking about a certain anatomical feature of mine that the ladies just love. Given my bachelor status and appreciation for all things curvy and feminine, I could absolutely see that. But a different pecker is making my life much harder than it needs to be.My name is Ford Daniels, partner at the law firm of Knight … law firm of Knight & Payne, and my latest case has me wading through the finer points of peckers—woodpeckers that is. Specifically, the red-cockaded woodpecker. I swear, I can’t make this stuff up but that’s what the sexy-as-hell blonde chained to a tree told me this morning.
Her name is Viveka Jones and she is so much more than a pretty face. She’s got wit, charm, and razor-sharp smarts. Turns out my client is looking to bulldoze the red-cockaded woodpecker’s natural habitat in favor of a multimillion-dollar subdivision and the sexy attorney with legs for days (and days), just happens to be counsel for an animal rights group looking to put a halt to construction.
My client’s pissed, but all I can think about is getting Viveka across the table from me. And then on the table underneath me. Perhaps up against the wall. And then—
Well, let’s just say when it’s all said and done, I’m hoping the red-cockaded woodpecker isn’t the only pecker that gets some attention from Miss Viveka Jones.

Everyone knows how much I love Sawyer Bennett!!! Her books are always so good, I have yet to read one where I didn’t like it. They always leave you feeling so good by the end. The characters are funny and likeable, it’s so easy to fall in love with their story.
Viveka and Ford are two lawyers fighting on opposites sides of a case. Instantly they are attracted to each other and you know how the rest goes!
The Pecker Briefs is such a feel good book, it made me smile the whole time. Ford had all that sexy alpha going on but at the same time was endearing and attentive to Viv. The scenes with them just getting to know each other were just so fun and cute!
Viveka is so sweet and nurturing. Her character is a huge animal lover which is the opposite to Ford. Viv is really strong and caring. We see that a lot throughout the story. There was so much sexual tension between her and Ford from the get go. The smut was sooo really hot!!
I liked seeing Viv’s mom in the story it added some tension and drama! Same with Drake, client Ford is representing.
I liked seeing Leary and Reeve, I haven’t read their books yet but reading The Pecker Briefs has me really interested to see how they got together.
Recommending this one to people looking for fun and easy with a little drama towards the end!
I adore Sawyer Bennett’s Legal Affairs series; each story has witty banter, hot as fuck sex scenes and a hero and heroine who are extremely intelligent, driven, and confident, both inside and outside of the courtroom.
But while I’ve loved each of Bennett’s opposing counsels’ couples, Viveka Jones and Ford Daniels just might be my favorite of them all, not only because their chemistry and attraction radiates from the pages of The Pecker Briefs but also because they are both genuine, passionate, and all about the peckers, even if Viveka and Ford’s meanings of the word vary quite drastically;)
Regardless of their differing interpretations, I think both of the main characters as well as all of the readers of The Pecker Briefs would wholeheartedly shout, ’Hail to the peckers!’ Partly because the endangered ‘peckers’ are what bring Viveka and Ford together and partly because as soon as Viveka experiences Ford’s ‘pecker,’ she can’t get enough, which Ford definitely doesn’t mind.
Viveka Jones is definitely one of my favorite Sawyer Bennett’s heroines. I adore her quirkiness, her sass, her confidence, and her compassion when it comes to her furry clients but also to any decent human being. One of the reasons I really enjoy everything that is Viv is because Bennett provides readers with Viv’s backstory; we see her piece of work mom and all that Viv had to deal with when it came to her mother’s view of her and her role in Viv’s life. It’s clear in how Ford describes Viveka and the fact that she was a young model that she is beyond stunning, but she doesn’t use her looks to get ahead; in fact, she really doesn’t pay much attention to how others view her because she’s confident enough in herself and how she treats others that other people’s opinions, especially those who attempt to tear her down because they’re jealous, don’t matter to her, which is exactly why her mom is not part of Viv’s life.
I wouldn’t call Ford a manwhore per say….he’s a serial monogamist who gets bored and loses interest in a short amount of time, but he doesn’t have a different woman in his bed each night and he’s absolutely not a cheater. The way I see it is that Ford was just waiting for the right woman – the one who he would never get bored with and who he wanted to spend just as much time with in bed as out of it, and it’s obvious as soon as Ford and Viv see one another that they’re attract to each other and from that day on, there’s no stopping what’s building between them, even if they are on opposing sides of a legal case.
Readers will adore The Pecker Briefs because it’s a fun, flirty, steamy, and intelligent romance. It also has amazing secondary characters in Leary and Reeve who readers who are familiar with Sawyer Bennett’s Legal Affairs’ series will remember and Viv couldn’t find a better best friend than Frannie; that woman has Viv’s back no matter what and that’s definitely the kind of woman that Viv deserves to have in her corner.
I can’t get enough of Bennett’s stories and characters. It amazes me how many different series she’s written and that each and every one provides numerous fantastic reads time and time again, which proves just how amazing Bennett is as a writer and a storyteller.
5 Poison Apples
You have to admit with a title like this you know there’s going to be a little bit of humor in this book. It was also very hot Ford and Viveka are Opposing attorneys on a case that involves woodpeckers LOL. The chemistry between these two characters is hot. I appreciate it that this couple is an older couple and they knew what they want it. When they decide that they wanted to keep their personal life separate from the business that was also fun to watch them actually do that. I found Viveka to be natural and although she wasn’t sure where she stood with Ford at times, she decided to enjoy it however long things were good
Thank goodness for the peckers that brought together Viveka Jones and Ford Daniels! These two are lawyers on opposite sides in a case brought against a builder/developer in order to save a forest where an endangered woodpecker has been spotted. They meet when Viveka chains herself to a tree so she can serve the injunction and Ford immediately knows she is different from any woman he has met and the sparks are evident from the beginning. The chemistry is explosive and H-O-T and when you are talking the partners of Knight & Payne we have learned anything goes. Leary and Reece are also a part of this book (they are from a previous book Fiction and you don’t need to read that one to know what is going on) and they are still a hoot. This is smart, sexy, and so witty I found myself having such a good time reading I couldn’t put it down. I definitely recommend this one!
Audio Review from 2018
This is my first Sawyer Bennett experience and it won’t be my last.
Great story, it flowed very well. The characters are fun and believable!
Kirsten Leigh’s alight accent for Viveka as she is of Swedish origin was so cute!!
While “The Pecker Briefs” is the seventh book in this series, it is definitely able to be read as a stand-alone. Characters from previous books make appearances, but when necessary for the plot, you’re given just enough backstory to not be lost.
Ford Daniels has never had a woman hold his interest for longer than a few months. And he’s okay with that because he’s pretty content in his bachelor lifestyle of nice cars, beautiful women, and time working as a partner for a prestigious law firm. But then he meets Viveka Jones. She’s beautiful and brilliant and so committed to her work as an animal rights lawyer that when they meet she’s literally chained to a tree in order to protect the red-cockaded woodpeckers living there. Despite the fact that they’re pitted against each other in this case of land developer vs animal conservationist, they find themselves unable to keep their hands off each other. As the case develops, so do their emotions, and a sense of impending danger as Viveka starts getting threats that Ford can’t always protect her from.
Lately, I feel like everything I’ve read has either been super emotionally heavy or devoid of any real emotion or action and is nothing but fluff. But “The Pecker Briefs” does a great job of finding the perfect balance for me. It was laugh out loud funny at times, but also had a great depth of emotion between Viveka and Ford and their friends and family. The threats against Viveka were just enough drama and tension to keep you on your toes, but never veered too far into uncomfortably dangerous territory. And, much to my pleasure, the lawyer aspects were interesting and just detailed enough that it flowed perfectly in the story without ever feeling bogged down by the time spent in the courtroom.
Yes, at times, both Viveka and Ford felt way too perfect. But both of them were charming and lovable enough that I didn’t mind they were the most beautiful and smart and giving people ever. Viveka was spectacular. Brilliant and fierce and unafraid to go after what she wanted in the courtroom and in the bedroom with Ford. And I adored Ford and his unwavering devotion to his friends, and later, Viveka. At the start, he was perfectly balanced on the line of fiercely independent playboy and doting boyfriend. He could be exclusive and galant and devoted without looking for more in a relationship and without seeming sleazy about it. And Bennett did a great job of writing his transition to love with Viveka in a really believable way. This former womanizer didn’t just wake up one morning head over heels in love, their relationship really grew organically through the book.
Overall, this was a great, quick and easy read that definitely inspired me to go back and take a chance on some of the previous books in the series.
Viveka and Ford’s book is so good. Take two hot lawyers on opposing sides. Add some major attraction. You have a winner!! This book is low on angst and high on hotness. I loved Viveka’s attitude, work ethic, and just everything about her. Ford is a great male lead as well. Ford and Viveka make an awesome couple. The story flows. You just want to keep reading until you finish. Dual point of view. No cliffhanger.
There are three things you can ALWAYS expect from Sawyer Bennett’s books…A great story line, Laugh out loud humor, and of course hot scenes! And Sawyer once again doesn’t dissapoint in the Pecker Briefs!
Self imposed activist lawyer, Viveka Jones, is fighting to protect an endangered bird…red-cockaded wood-pecker to be exact.
Ford Daniels is the lawyer representing the construction company trying to build on the land.
Can they keep it all in the courtroom??? 😉
This was a fun, enjoyable read!!! I would totally recommend it!!!
There are times Ford tends to make valid points, “I made you come twice tonight. I think that makes us friends.” Well now, Ford is not bashful, “what I wouldn’t give to have taken you up to the judge’s bench, bent you over it, and effed you there.” I really enjoyed this book, I loved Ford, he and Viv complimented each other.
You’ll never give the woodpecker that same thought after this!
This was so enjoyable! It is a good time read. So if anyone is looking for something that is funny, intelligent, and full of great banter – this is your book!
Ford and Viveka were great together and across the table from each other. Their story was one of quippy retorts and a fantastic time watching them fall in love!
I was so happy to see Sawyer going back to the Legal Affairs world and giving us more for Ford! Viveka was the perfect woman for him!
Ford Daniels and Viveka Jones are opposing counselors on a case about an endanger woodpecker or as they each name “the pecker brief.” Ford is a highly successful, monied attorney representing a hugely successful developer. Viveka is a struggling attorney who does more pro bono work than compensated cases. Her passion and the only area of law she practices is animal rights. Talk about opposite sides of the legal coin. Ford is not a long term relationship kind of a guy but he’s definitely interested in Viveka or V as he calls her. Unable to deny their attraction, they began a hot and heavy affair that borders on ethical conflict of interest. As things heat up both in the case and in their relationship, Vivica is threatened on several occasions and Ford is not happy knowing that it’s his client who’s behind the threats but unable to prove it. More and more Ford realizes that Vivica is the one and it startles him but also makes him happier than he’s ever been. The case is finally settled mostly in Ford’s client’s favor but an outside source gets the final say and there will be a change in the development of the property. Viveka and Ford get their happy ever after and the woodpeckers live to roost another day.
This delightful rom.com was such a pleasure to read. The dynamic between Ford and Vivica was heartwarming and poignant and oh so off-the-charts sexy. Both characters are genuinely likeable and you root from them the entire time.
The plot of this book is nothing outstanding or original, yet when placed in the hands of extraordinary author Sawyer Bennett, it turns into a work of art (or should I say romance). The book is bewitching, the dialogues super entertaining and the chemistry and love story out of this world. This is one book you read in one day, delighting in the word chemistry that Sawyer Bennett gifts us in this delicious book.
So much fun to read! I loved Leary and Reeve but Viveka and Ford were so much fun!
Ford has indeed fallen. They are definitely hot but what I loved was the romance, the sweetness and yes, his alpha protectiveness.
And the whole premise of the story with the woodpecker added such humor to the story, and I found myself smiling and laughing, even at just reading the words “pecker briefs”.
Fun and sexy and sweet!
*4 Stars*
ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.
I liked Ford and Viv. Even as opposing counsel on a case, they do not let that interfere with their personal relationship, which develops very very fast. They both have a respect for others job, even though they are vastly different, and at totally different ends of the spectrum.
The story flowed well, and just moved along very easily. It ramps up a little bit in the last quarter of the book, and that was where it did get a bit intense, and had some of my favourite bits.
Of course there were secondary characters to like, and not to like, and they just added to the story as well. I have not read any of the other books in this series, so I would be quite intrigued to go back and do so.
The ending was perfect. Overall a fast and easy read.
Sawyer Bennett is one of my go to authors and I was thrilled to be back with the gang from the Legal Affairs Series, in saying that this book can certainly be read as a stand-alone.
Ford an attorney for Knight & Payne, he has it all,he is very successful, hot, smart, confident and he doesn’t like to lose in both business and his personal life.
Viveka is also an attorney but at the opposite end of the scale to Ford most of her work is done pro bono and it’s normally fighting for animal rights and the underdog so it’s no surprise that her first meeting with Ford finds her tied to a tree on a site that his client is demolishing, threading court action to protect the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker who she claims is nesting in the trees on the site…..
I loved both Ford and Viveka because they both turn out to be sweet and caring, as they get to know each and feelings come into play we see another side to Ford the side that will put his job and his life on the line for the woman he loves. This book is hot, funny, romantic and the banter will leave you smiling like a Cheshire Cat. If you are looking for a fun read this is a must click.
I can’t tell you how much I love Sawyer Bennett and her writing!
We’ve met Ford Daniels before (don’t worry, you didn’t have to read her other books, although you would definitely enjoy them). He’s a HOT corporate lawyer at Knight & Payne and a love ’em and leave ’em kind of guy (or should I say love ’em until you get bored with ’em), never able to commit.
Viveka Jones is an animal rights lawyer on her own. She’s bright, confident, and can dish it out. Who can resist a strong intelligent female character. Not to mention, how can you beat their initial meeting? She’s dressed all prim and chained to a tree trying to serve an injunction to save a woodpecker! Ford represents the contractor who’s trying to cut down the tree that Viveka is chained to. By the end of the day, Viveka and Ford are tangling in the sheets! And, they have to battle against each other in a few days over these trees and the woodpeckers! Of course, this will lead to new drama, can they have a relationship while opposing each other in the courtroom?
As always, Sawyer Bennett brings her characters to life and you get drawn in. She weaves the lawyer qualities with off the chart chemistry, drama with equal amounts of fun! It’s writing at its best!
**Received ARC for a fair and honest review**
The Pecker Briefs is the 7th book in the Legal Affairs series. This book can be read as a standalone. This book is a fun, sweet, fast read.
Viveka Jones grew up as a model, when she got tired of her mom living vicariously through her, spending all her money she went through proper legal channels to become an emancipated minor. But she had more aspirations and put herself through school and law school and became an attorney. Now she’s an animal defense attorney, and while it doesn’t pay well she is happy. When she’s asked to take on a case about the red cockaded woodpeckers that are on the endangered species list and a big construction company wants to level trees that there are nests in Viveka will not stop until they are saved. Ford Daniels works for Knight & Payne law firm, and is a hot shot attorney for them. When he gets a call from his client about land he’s trying to excavate, the last thing he expects to find is a gorgeous female attorney chained to a tree, and now his opposing counsel.
I really enjoyed both characters tremendously. Viveka was smart, beautiful, down to earth, strong and Ford was smart, good looking, strong, alpha and caring. They had great chemistry, and watching their relationship evolve was a lot of fun. The storyline was fun, sweet, hot and steamy. I really enjoyed the secondary characters, loved seeing Leary and Viveka develop a friendship. I lived in NC for 7 years and on Ft Bragg there is a lot of protected land for the red cockaded woodpeckers. I’ve been there, as I was stationed there. I loved having that bit of fact in the story. Also gave the story some credibility and got me deeper involved in it. Overall loved the story. Can’t wait for the next book in the series! Hope this helps! Happy Reading!!!
This book is adorable! It’s the story of an Animal Rights Lawyer (Viv) and the Corporate Lawyer (Ford). There’s acreage of land waiting to be developed for a Housing/Shopping Site, but low and behold, there is an Endangered Species of bird, nesting in some of the trees on the marked land. There’s a Protest (by Viv), Injunctions, and a Hearing. There’s also a TON of chemistry between Ford & Viv, which could lead to a mistrial and them becoming disbarred if they’re not careful.
This is a great story that’s fun, sexy, and, well, just plain’t cute!!! Ford is a Dream and Viv is a beautiful, passionate-for-animals woman. Definitely worth reading !!!!
* I was gifted this ARC from the author and freely give my review*
Oh, this was witty and hot:
* Good storyline that progresses in a satisfying speed
* Characters is described in a way that make me feel a connection to them, Ford has some alpha male tendencies but not to much and Viveka is independent, sassy and have a quick replay to Ford’s tries to be all alpha.
* No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
* Witty and plenty of dialogues
* Love scenes that is sweet, very hot and also fun……
* What I love the most is that there’s no big drama and that might be because the characters communicate very well.
I’ve not read all the other books in this series but it’s not necessary so don’t let it stop you if you’re a new reader to this series.
Solid 5 stars
I have not read any of the previous books in the Legal Affairs series but after reading The Pecker Briefs, I’ve added them all to my TBR!
Viveka Jones gorgeous and intelligent animal rights attorney who chained herself to a tree in order to save an endangered species of woodpeckers. Ford Daniels, a sexy and successful partner at Knight & Payne, is smitten with the gorgeous woman who he unchained from a tree. Even though they are about to be opposing counsel, their attraction is
I was hooked from the first chapter and absolutely fell in love with Viveka and Ford! There was instant chemistry and WHOA was it HOT!!! I truly enjoyed their banter and how their line of communication was open and direct. There was no over the top angst but a little drama to keep it interesting. The sex was so amazing, my Kindle was on the verge of melting! The Pecker Briefs was a sexy, swoon worthy read that was extremely enjoyable!
