Gabriel appears at every turn. He seems to take pleasure in watching me fall. Other times he’s the only kindness in a brutal underworld.
Except he’s playing a deeper game than I know. Every move brings us together, every secret rips us apart. And when the final piece is played, only one of us can be left standing.

Couldn’t wait to read each book of the trilogy!!
Avery graduates from high school, although her father promises no business at her party there is and even some heated discussions, later everything changes.
Looking to get money from a loan shark turning into an auction for her virginity. After a proposition from her uncle Avery is more determined to go through with the auction. Although surprised when discussing it she meets the man who hurt her father, Gabriel.
Although Avery doesn’t want to have anything to do with Gabriel, she needs the money and he’s there with the photographer, she can’t help but notice the tingle she feels when he’s near.
With the way Gabriel has been around her, Avery is surprised when he outbids everyone at her auction. Spending time with Gabriel, Avery learns why he hates people who steal. Also surprising her by showing her pleasure. Although Gabriel brought her virginity at the auction, it soon turns into a game of carefully calculated moves to see who will surrender first, with not only their body, but their mind and soul as well.
Love Skye style of writing …would continue looking for her books… loved The Pawn and Beauty Touched the Beast.
Terrible book.
A sinfully dark read!
The price of survival…
A forbidden auction…
After the ending of this book, I was left breathless and anxious to find out what will happen next. This is one of the best contemporary romances I have read in awhile!
It will have you heart racing, your pulsing pounding and you out of breath. Such a sensual, dark and wickedly read! So emotional. So dark. So dangerous. So sinful.
I know for sure that I will not stop thinking about this wicked book for a long long time. It is engraved into my heart.
Full of emotion, angst, drama, intrigue, secrets, betrayal, seduction, manipulation, revenge and a twisted love.
Perfect for readers of contemporary romances/dark romances.
Interesting plot. Long on details short on sexy.
Waiting for a deal on the next book in the series!!
This was a pretty good book. The plot was tought out and the characters were well written. It leaves me wanting more. The chess analogy was well written and add greatly to the story.
However; I did not feel any connection to the characters or any connection between them. It felt to me more like a detached reading. The story was still good, I just was not emotionally involved. For me, there was no heat, no passion, no desire.
I also thought that the second half of the book was the best; the first half being to slow and boring. I will read the next in the series because I am hoping for more action, more relationship development. This story felt like a really long build up; like laying the foundation to the “real” story. The premise is great and I want to learn more, I just hope it comes with some steam. I have lots of questions reguarding Gabriel.
I have loved Skye Warren for a while now, and The Pawn is just damn good writing. There’s just a succinctness to her inner dialogue, a depth to her characters, and a darkness to her stories that combine together to make a wonder read. The Pawn is no different. I will warn you, though. This story is not over. As a reader, you are promised a month of the game between these two brilliant characters only to realize that as you are nearing the end of the book, only two days have gone by. You know. You want to scream at that moment when you realize, “This book is not going to end well for me. Damn her!!” However, the story is so exquisite that you gnash your teeth, rumble and grump, get to the end, sigh, click that link, and pre-order the next one. You can almost picture the author twirling the villain’s mustache leaning back with that muahahahahahaha!!! And dangit! You know you’ll be back.
Couldn’t put down this wonderfully well written story and characters!! On to The Knight!!
I enjoyed this book. I liked the interaction between the two main characters. Was a little disappointed it ended in a cliff hanger but I plan to read the next book to see where it goes.
One of the best books I have ever read.
This book is absolutely intoxicating in a dark and dangerous way. I loved every minute of it and Gabriel…HOT damn Gabriel is just the sexiest asshole ever. Avery is a good character she does have some growing to do that’s for sure but I have a feeling she will grow so very well in the next books to come and I can’t wait to see how this game Gabriel seems to be playing plays out and find out the truth to his secrets he is keeping.
I love this book mostly because it kept me guessing
Already started the sequel
Didn’t love it. Left me hanging at the end. I wanted more.
Fun quick read. I loved the characters.
Great book loved readingit
Bravo! Arresting ! Titillating!
This series started out so much lighter and as the books went on they became very, very dark. Not really my thing but well written.
