Okay so I scrolled past this book a few times on Amazon before purchasing it and I am so glad I did purchase it!!!
This book blew my mind away and I can’t wait to start reading the 2nd book.
Every time I thought I new what was going to happen next, BAMM a curve ball gets thrown and I am more curios on what is going to happen next!!
I loved this book and would really recommend it!
It’s a dark and lust filled journey.
Avery and Gabriel take us on a roller coaster ride and it’s filled with twist and turns of darkest forms. Gabriel buys Avery in an auction where she is down on her luck following on family’s downfall. He plays on her desperation but they can’t stop the intense attraction they feel. He owns her and there is nothing she can do about it. This story had me right from the beginning and i couldn’t put it down. It ends in a cliffhanger and i am waiting for the next on in the series.
I don’t care for books that take 3 volumes to get to an ending that was easy to see in volume number one. Waste of my money
She is forced to sell her virginity to save her father. After the auction, she morph into a different person. Loved the series but not for the Puritans! Very steamy
Cliffhanger!!! Need next book- the Knight available!
I have started on a book reading rampage again and this book was the first one I came across. The Pawn is a hot steamy rollercoaster.
Sinfully sexy and darkly beautiful, The Pawn will play games with your heart and leave you craving more!
A stealthy, sensual, twisted game of cat and mouse that sucked me in completely and had me turning the pages faster and faster. Cunning and brilliant.
4.5 stars
Too many pieces in this puzzle

The straight edges are all missing
Avery is struggling to put her life back together. It’s like sand slipping through her fingers. One bold and repugnant choice seems to be her only hope. But is Avery truly making this choice? Is she going to be the master of her destiny?
What a tangled web, Skye Warren weaves. Not a big chess player myself, I was surprised by the twists that also caught Avery in the web. It was a compelling read. I couldn’t put it down and now…
I have to wait. Ugh, my impatience is going to kill me. Maybe not kill me, but definitely leave me on life support huddle up in an empty room of my house…
reviewed for the Sweet Spot Sisterhood
Good but ends in cliff hanger
Dark and sensual. I couldn’t put it down! If you love dark romance, you cannot miss this book!
Great read! Secrets quietly expose themselves around every bend in this exotic yet twisted tale!
This book is very well written and the idea is original. I have gone back to this one a few times! The scenes are steamy without being too much. I need to read the others in this series for sure!
I like the book and the story but it gets frustrating having to buy multiple short books to finish 1 story.
Not gonna lie. I’ve had this book for a while and had no intentions of reading it anytime soon. I have read a few of Warren’s books. The Beauty and the Beast series. It wasn’t horrible but didn’t wow me. So I wasn’t in a rush to read the other books of hers I have on my kindle. Well, just so happens out of all my books sitting on my kindle this one gets picked to be read next…
I’ve already bought The Knight to read next. I loved this. Loved the dark tone to it although it’s not a super dark book. Mostly hints. Avery is a very naive girl, who has no idea the game she has stepped into. But shes a strong woman who goes through a lot of crap and then some and still manages to keep her head held high.
Gabriel is an evil man who is setting up a game Avery can’t even begin to imagine. But it seems he has some feelings towards her that he can’t help.
Damon Scott is the most notorious loan shark in Tanglewood, the king of the Underworld, and Avery James needs a loan to save her father from the pain. The same father convicted of fraud and then taken an beat, left for dead in an alley. Now he’s bedridden, barely able to breathe and machines keeping him on pain medication.
Gabriel Miller is the last man her father stole from. He has an empire that extends through the southern states and over seas. He buys and sells anything worth money – drugs, guns, people.
The only thing of value Avery has for collateral is her virginity. In order to get the money she needs she would go up for auction and the buyer would have her for 30 days. Is she strong enough to pull through this?
I’ve quickly become entranced with Skye Warren’s writing. Her characters, sub characters, and storyline enveloped me in a world that is not only believable, but pulled emotions from me through every twist and turn of this elaborate labyrinth she has created.
I was definitely captivated by the blurb. I love books that promise dark secrets, twists and turns. And this book certainly delivered. This is the first book I have read by Skye Warren and it certainly won’t be my last. Her style is very easy going and has you hooked by the end of the first chapter. This is one book that definitely messes with your head long after the last page has been read!
Avery is a Daddy’s girl having lost her mother to a drink driving accident when she was just 8 years old; she is rich, intelligent, beautiful. It has just been the two of them for pretty much most of her life. Suddenly the life that she’s come to know and taken for granted comes crashing down. Her dad has lost all of the money and is beaten to within an inch of his life by the people he cheated. He needs round the clock medical care. Avery has no money and auctions her virginity.
Enter the charismatic Gabriel Miller… everybody loves a bad boy! Every turn Avery makes, Gabriel is there ensuring she loses. Part of me wanted to hate Gabriel whilst the other part wanted to know more about him. It is written very cloak and dagger. Provoking more questions than answers. Her dad is most definitely not the person she thought he was. The person she had idolised her whole life. There are so many secrets waiting to be uncovered… This is definitely a slow burn, keep you guessing type of book.
There a quite a few secondary characters who all seem to be aware of events of the past. All sharing the same secret as Avery sets out on her quest to discover what it is everyone is keeping from her. I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who likes books that contain dark secrets, that enjoy books with characters that love power, money… and of course hot steamy scenes between to 2 MCs.
I’m so glad I waited a while to read this and you definitely need the next book to jump into
Great first book in the trilogy of Avery and Gabriel – enjoyed the back story of the romance all the way through book 3. The Romance isn’t always pretty, but full of drama.
An entertaining, fast-paced read.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.
The Pawn is the first book in the Endgame Series by Skye Warren.
How far would you go to save everything that means anything to you in life? Even after finding out your father might not be who you thought he was and has lost everything including almost losing his life. This is the story of Avery James and Gabriel Miller. One born and raised to be something in life and the other thought to be a criminal and responsible for Avery being the boat she’s in . Desperate for money and the only thing she has of value is her virginity. A virginity she’s agreed to auction off to get the money to save the only thing she has left of her mother. The house.
I loved every single second of this book. I equally liked Avery and Gabriel though he is still quite the mystery to me. Avery was born and raised with a silver spoon in her mouth. She was engaged to a future senator and going to one of the best colleges around. Suddenly her dad is charged with all kinds of criminal activity and nearly killed. Now she has had to drop everything to care for him and find a way not to lose the house her mom designed. Gabriel is the man responsible for her dads demise. Her dad stole from Gabriel and now one gets away with that. This book was amazing. It drew me in from the moment I stated. I so didn’t want it to end. The Pawn is filled with mystery, secrets and a huge what the heck is going on.
Skye Warren has once again hooked me. I so can not wait until January when the next book, The Knight, is due to release. I so need that book in my hands right now.
