“This thing is crazy.” Toni said as she passed her hand through her hair. “Freaking crazy.”
I have to preface this review with my absolute love for this series. Each book that has Iris Williams and Toni Annette, have increasingly grown into a wonderful and gripping, if not just downright terrifying, story. I would recommend that you read the rest of the books that include this dynamic duo of a detective team. It isn’t necessary to enjoy this one, but they are so good why not devour the series in its entirety?
In this book we find Iris and Toni working on bettering their relationship with each other, and forging the waters of parenthood. The circumstances around Jasmine, their daughter, being conceived makes things difficult for Toni to accept. She is cautious and weary but trying to be the best mother she can be to the toddler. If she ignores her nagging questions at the back of her mind, will she regret it? If she doesn’t accept Jasmine, will it be the final straw for the relationship between the two?
“Well she treats Jasmine like… Like she’s the spawn of Satan. She doesn’t do this in front of me, but… Once, I left them together while I stepped out to go to the store. I didn’t lock the door when I left. When I came back… Well, I tip-toed into the apartment. Toni was standing in front of Jasmine’s playpen staring at her… just staring. Then she said that she would keep her eye on her and that she better be a good girl. I made a sound as if I just came into the apartment. Toni reached into the playpen and picked Jasmine up.” Iris lowered her head. “She acts like she likes Jasmine in front of me, but I know she hates her.”
The newest case that fall onto the desks of Iris and Toni is a puzzling one. People that wouldn’t normally have a destructive or evil tone in their bodies are turning into cold blooded serial killers. When they start piecing together the puzzle it is revealed that they may be working with a force they can’t see and have no idea how to battle.
“Toni knew she had to find a common thread that linked all the victims together. So far tow of Sara Weils puppets had been seeing a shrink. The same shrink? Nah, what are the odds of that?”
“Hypnotized, she’s hypnotizing her puppets to do her dirty work.”
Sara feels like she has found the perfect way to exact revenge. She is an imperfect character that has demons from her past that have molded her into the unbalanced woman she is today. As a shrink herself she would completely diagnose herself with several disorders. Will she be able to exact her revenge without getting caught? Can she knock everyone off her revenge list and manage to escape the law during an extreme hurricane? Rolling out with the tide if you will? Or will she be no match for the detective duo, Iris and Toni?
…”Antisocial Personality disorder- Cluster B- which includes behaviors such as: Deceitfulness and conning others for personal profit or pleasure. The lack of remorse, and rationalizing the hurting of other people. Narcissist who suffers from bi-polar disorder.”
I can’t and won’t divulge much more. You will have to pick up the novel and figure out what is to come for these two to find out how this ends up for them. Dive into this gripping psychological thriller from RG Miller today, and I can guarantee you will have a hankering for a new author!
The Patient: An Iris WIlliams and Annette Toni book by R.G. Miller is the fifth book in the series. I read this without reading others in the series and can say this was enjoyable and easy to understand without having read the whole series. I believe if you read them in the order you would have much more background information than I had. The story is a psychological thriller with Iris and Toni searching for a killer while also trying to live their lives as a couple while off duty. The two have the challenges of the job as well as raising a small child. The story drew me in and was a page-turner. It often kept me at the edge of my seat. I enjoyed the story and the characters and will probably be returning to read more about Iris and Toni.
The Patient by R.G. Miller is a suspenseful, intense 5-star thriller! I absolutely love this author’s writing style and find myself easily getting lost in the stories.
This is my second book in the Iris Williams and Annette Toni series and just like the one I read previously, it reads just like a crime show, dragging the reader in. I can’t help but to read the entire book in one sitting.
In this book we find Iris and Toni with a new addition to the family, their daughter Jasmine. They face some troubles with parenting and especially for Toni. Knowing what I know about this couple and reading about them throughout this series I know they can overcome anything. They are such a sweet couple.
On a darker note, the detectives are dealing with a new case. Normal everyday people are coming down with something where they suddenly snap and become murders. There is a nice twist in the book and you will be wondering how the course changed without you knowing. The characters are amazing, I love the story line. I give so much praise to R.G. Miller for keeping me interested and grabbing my attention the way he does.
The Patient
Written by R.G Miller
5 out of 5 stars
The Patient is the second book I’ve read by R.G Miller but it is book five in the Iris Williams and Annette Toni series. I read book 4 (No Man
Left Behind) as a stand alone and absolutely loved it. My only regret was that I had only given it a 4 star rating, the book really stayed with me once I was finished.
With such a great first impression I had high expectations for The Patient and I honestly was not disappointed at all. About halfway through the book my jaw literally dropped, I certainly hadn’t expected the story to take that turn. Amazing.
While I think this book would be just as incredible without having read any other books by R.G Miller, I enjoyed being familiar with the main and many of the secondary characters already, it really packed an emotional punch in some of the twists in the story.
Like watching a good thriller I felt myself wanting to yell at or warn the characters as things unraveled. I was truly engrossed in this story from beginning to end. I will definitely be recommending this book and author next time anyone asks what I’ve been reading lately!
The Patient: An Iris Williams and Annette Toni Novel: Book 5
By R.G. Miller
As with the previous books in this series I would say this book is for those 18 and onwards due to the content of the book. As I have said with this series before The Patient can be read easily as a standalone but if you want the background history of the main characters, start at the beginning of the series. Iris and Annette are partners at home as well as at work. They now have a child which has changed their lives in a big way. As with any new parents there will be problems and for these two its no different. The question is will they work on the problem with their child or will it ruin their relationship. They also have to catch a criminal who is dangerous. This book I feel will keep you wanting to turn the page as quick as possible. Its full of twists and turns which will have you guessing what’s on the next page. Loved the book, I do recommend it
The Patient: An Iris Williams and Annette Toni Novel by R. G. Miller is a psychological thriller that you will not be able to put down. Iris and Toni are detectives in the NYPD and partners in real life as well. Their next case is difficult and hits close to home. There are so many twists and turns that they do not see coming. While working on this case, they have to deal with their relationship and making sure they have care for their young child. Life definitely is not easy for Iris and Toni. Now this case could be the end of them. Why are people committing murder who never would. This is what Iris and Toni need to figure out.
Another great one by R. G. Miller. His writing flows and keeps you engaged from the first word all the way to the last. The characters are well developed and very believable. You can connect to them with ease. It can be read as a standalone, but reading the other books helps you understand the characters. I cannot wait to see what else R. G. Miller has for us.
4 Stars
The Patient is An Isis Williams and Annette Toni Novel by R.G. Miller. This is a very suspenseful crime thriller. This is the fifth book of Mr. Miller’s that I have read, and having enjoyed his previous books, I was intrigued by what he would do with this story.
The book follows Detectives Isis Williams and Annette Toni, who we met in the other four books, as they take on this latest case. Isis and Annette are not only work partners, but partners in life and love. They have been through quite a lot together, especially after the events of the last book. Iris gave birth to their daughter and has accepted her new role as mother. Toni on the other hand has had difficulty in coming to terms with parenthood. This book explores more of their ‘personal’ life- as well as taking us on another mind-bending investigation.
This book is suspenseful, gripping and completely delivers and intense mystery, dramatic developments, and gripping intrigue. It is a worth addition to the series and I am looking forward to the next book!
Thank you, Mr. Miller!
The Patient: An Iris Williams & Annette Toni novel is a spin-off from the original series from author R.G. Miller. This is my fourth read from this author and he continues to show how great he is at writing psychological thrillers.
He always makes these reads page-turners, that keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next.
This book is thrilling, riveting, compelling and has you gripped from the very beginning until the end. Whenever you read these books it turns into a mystery that yourself tries to work out and connect the clues together.
Once again its great to read a continuation on in the lives of Iris & Annette, especially after all that they face in the Twins series. But once again these two prove how well they work together, using each other’s strengths and abilities in their line of work. Even with the issues that they may have outside of work, especially surrounding the circumstances with their daughter.
As the same with all these books I have read from this author you never expect the twists and turns that occur, they leave you stunned and completely bewildered, so much so you can’t wait to continue reading to see where the story goes to next.
Once again I love the unique way in which this author writes these reads, by giving our main characters a POV but also the murderer. It gives everything a heightened feel while getting to understand the murderer thoughts and feelings as well as the people who are trailing him.
This is once again a riveting read from this author that I really don’t want to give up too much of the plot line with my review. This is one people need to experience on their own! Don’t miss this thrilling, psychological, mystery read!
The Patient: An Iris Williams and Annette Toni Novel
By R G Miller
5 stars
R G Miller is back with another fantastic page turner of a story! I have read quite a few books by this author and they never fail to have me on the edge of my seat. I like that these books are not in my usual reading genre but that I always love them. Miller’s writing is twisted in one of the best possible ways. I absolutely love Iris and Annette! I think they make such a fab partnership, both in and out of work.
In this next instalment we see Iris and Annette take on possibly their most baffling case to date. I love their methodical way of working through things and the author threw in some great twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end.
I hope there is more to come from these great characters, I love reading about them. Miller is amazing at writing these mystery thrillers and I can’t wait to read more from him in the future.
The Patient by R. G. Miller
This is not the first book I have read by this author and I knew this one would be just as good because I have enjoyed everything book I have read with Iris Williams and Annette Toni. I have enjoyed getting to know these two detectives and all the horrific experiences they have gone through. I am glad that this book has them back at it again, but with some differences. In this story they have a small child which causes some strife in their relationship. There are some things these two need to figure out if their relationship is going to work. Of course they have more than their child and relationship to work on, there’s also a dangerous criminal to catch. This author does and amazing job keeping you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire story!! Once you pick up this book you will not be able to put it down. Every book I have read by this author has taken me on an unpredictable suspenseful journey and I have loved every minute of it. I highly recommend this book. You will be taken on so many unexpected twist and turns you will not be disappointed!!
The Patient is an Iris William’s and Annette Toni novel. Book five begins as dramatic and action packed as the other books in the series. The two detectives’ lives are never free from dastardly deeds or murderous mayhem. Usually a fan of romance, I am so pleased that I have read this story. It has depth and the characters are varied have their own unique quirks and idiosyncrasies.
The Patient was a story that started fantastic and just got better from there. I liked the way the story evolved and it was captivating and engaging. The author delivered a classy and dangerous tale that kept me thinking about it long after I finished the book. A well rounded story that will appeal to lovers of a good suspenseful and thrilling read. 4 stars.
The Patient: An Iris Williams and Annette Toni Novel was a thrilling 5 star read. This story pulled me right in from the beginning.
Iris and Toni are working on a very difficult case and some things in their home life. There are people committing murder that would normally never do it. Why is this happening?
I was trying to figure out the clues and mysteries right along with them. And just when you think you know, there’s a twist and your back to the beginning.
There is also a serious subject included in the story, bipolar disorder. There is so much more to this great read. It can be read as a stand alone but I highly suggest reading the whole series.
I give The Patient: An Iris Williams and Annette Toni Novel, 4 stars.
*This review contains spoilers from book 1**
Iris and Annette are back and this time their case is even more difficult. Horrific murders are being committed on normal citizens of their city. Each time, the killer is someone different. But what is causing these people to suddenly commit these vicious crimes? Can the detective figure out the puzzle before it’s too late?
This was a good book in a very interesting series. It will keep you guessing as to what is going on until the very end. I was surprised a few times, which I quite enjoyed. Besides their case work, you also see Iris and Annette in their personal life, with their baby. Annette is still coming to terms with the baby, while Iris try to show her as much love as possible. This is a good addition and mixes things up than just having them solely be on the case.
If you like books about trying to catch a killer in a big city, this book is for you.
R. G. Miller is my go to author when I need to escape for awhile. Now yes he is a psychological thriller author but his writing will allow you to forget your troubles and focus solely on his book. I fell in love from The Twins, which happened to be the first book by R. G. I read. He is a master mind with how griping his storytelling ability. In this installment of Iris and Toni we see the dynamic duel again. Not only are Iris and Toni professional partners but also life partners as well. It has been an interesting road for Iris and Toni. I do not dare share any information about the book because I do not want to spoil it for you.
The Patient: An Iris Williams and Annette Toni Novel: Book 5
By R.G. Miller

This is my 2nd book by this author and the 2nd that I have read in this series…and just like the 1st I loved it. This one had me guessing all the way through and I had a feeling I had it figured out a couple times and was wrong. The truth was staring me right in the face as it was our detectives and I missed it until it slapped me in the face.
I love this kind of story, one that takes you on a trip along with the characters as you help them solve a crime..there were a couple times I was thinking OMG can you not see this, it’s right there..I wanted to climb inside the book and slap all of them.
As in the first one of this series that I read, Im still having an issue with Toni, I am just not connecting with her at all and as I said in my first review maybe it is just because Im not getting enough of her side of things and also it might help if I go back and read this whole series from the beginning which I do plan to do.
I read this in one sitting and I sincerely enjoyed everything about it and can not wait for more.
I have read several of RG Miller’s books about Iris William and Annette Toni, and this one was just as good as the others. I like the characters and their chemistry. They nicely are able to balance work and personal life, being 2 decorated detectives. The themes of the books never fail to fascinate me, as they are always about a twisted criminal. This book followed suit, and like normal, hit close to home for the detectives. I like that I didn’t figure out who the suspect was, until most of the way through the book. I never saw it coming, and am still shocked how it all unfolded. I wont give away any spoilers though! I love Miller’s writing, and like to see him evolve as a writer with each new book. This book is like reading a Law and Order episode. So if you are a fan of Crime Fiction, I highly recommend this book, as well as the previous in the series. Even if you haven’t read any of the other Toni and Iris stories, you can still enjoy this one as a stand alone.
The Patient: An Iris Williams and Annette Toni Novel by R.G. Miller was downright own of the best mystery thrillers I have read this year.
This was my first read by this author, and I must say I am loving their style of writing. It’s draws you in, the first paragraph sets the stage for whats to come, and I can tell you that once I stated on this chilling journey, I could not stop until every lead was followed and every clue was solved.
As someone who reales a lot of crime books, and watches crime dramas, there isn’t much I have’t seen or read about. Most are the same, but what makes all the difference are the tone shifts, and the ability to mislead and stun the readers (me). Doesn’t matter if the same, say, crime has been covered, as long as you can get that shock factor in there, you got it. The Patient, has that and more. I was leaned down the rabbit hole more then once, thinking I had it figured out only to be misdirected, and left wondering what I missed. It made me go back to see if I could pick up on those subtle clues. I love it!
I did some digging, as I do when I stumble upon something new and something that I now love. This is a new series, but these characters are not, I’m going to be reading that past series so I can get more of this gut twisting, mind binding crime thriller, until the next book is released.
This book is a super high recommendation from me. Read it, if you dare….
Happy Reading

The Patient
An Iris and Annette Toni Novel
By R.G.Miller
This is a full length suspense novel. This story could be a standalone. But I’m sure you will want to read the others in this series. Not for those under 18. Due to violence and adult content.
Iris Williams and Annette Toni are detectives as well as partners in the New York Police department. They have a baby just under a year old. Finding a reliable babysitter is only one of the issues they are dealing with. They need someone available 24/7, as that is what is required for work. The new case they are working on, could be the end of them. A string of murders that need to be stopped. Along with a storm that is sure to be worse than ever before. Can these two detectives solve this case before the storm? Or will the murderer walk away along with the oncoming storm?
R. G. Miller has written another outstanding mystery thriller. This story is a page turner and will keep you at the edge of your seat. It is well written and will leave you wanting more. This story will not disappoint. So looking forward to another R. G. Miller’s next great suspense!!
I love this book and highly suggest this book as well as the rest of this series. Reading the previous books first will help enrich your enjoyment as you will get to know the characters and where they have been. This book pulled me in right from the beginning and kept me engaged. I love the characters in this book. Like the previous books, there are twists and turns and an emotional side to them to the characters that you may not see coming. I couldn’t put this book down until the last page
The Patient: An Iris Williams and Annette Toni Novel
By: R.G. Miller
5 out of 5 stars
The story The Patient: An Iris Williams and Annette Toni Novel by R.G. Miller is a psychological thriller. This is a story that I loved reading. It is a page-turner that had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next and if the one responsible would be caught. I enjoyed reading about the characters of Detective Iris Williams and her partner. They are smart, good at their jobs, and care about each other. They want to catch the suspect responsible and you can feel their frustration when events happen that they are not able to stop. Will Iris and her partner find out the reason behind the acts of violence that are occurring and get justice for the victims? The story flows well as both the detectives and those they work with uncover clues. With each new character that is introduced, you wonder how they fit into the story. Is there a connection between all of them or are they picked at random? Even with the pressure that they are under the detectives are very methodical in their investigation and no clue is too small to look into. There are also revelations and twists that I didn’t see coming. This is the first book that I have read by the author. R.G. Miller has created an amazing story with characters that you will not soon forget. A who-done-it that will leave you breathless and unable to put down until you have read the final page.
