“Thayne is a master at creating richly dimensional and kind characters from different generations who find themselves facing difficult challenges.”–Booklist With the emotional pull of Debbie Macomber, Barbara Delinsky and Susan Wiggs, RaeAnne Thayne brings readers an uplifting, brand new story told with her trademark charm and heart. She knows what’s best for everyone but herself… … for everyone but herself…
With a past like hers, Jessica Clayton feels safer in a life spent on the road. She’s made a career out of helping others downsize–because she’s learned the hard way that the less “stuff,” the better, a policy she applies equally to her relationships. But a new client is taking Jess back to Cape Sanctuary, a town she once called home…and that her little sister, Rachel, still does. The years apart haven’t made a dent in the guilt Jess still carries after a handgun took the lives of both their parents and changed everything between them.
While Jess couldn’t wait to put the miles between her and Cape Sanctuary, Rachel put down roots, content for the world–and her sister–to think she has a picture-perfect life. But with the demands of her youngest child’s disability, Rachel’s marriage has begun to fray at the seams. She needs her sister now more than ever, yet she’s learned from painful experience that Jessica doesn’t do family, and she shouldn’t count on her now.
Against her judgment, Jess finds herself becoming attached–to her sister and her family, even to her client’s interfering son, Nate–and it’s time to put everything on the line. Does she continue running from her painful past, or stay put and make room for the love and joy that come along with it?

You never want to miss a RaeAnne Thayne book, and I’m so glad I didn’t miss this one. She writes beautiful, life-affirming stories about love overcoming all obstacles. Make sure you grab this one!
RaeAnne always writes a thoughtful book with interesting characters. In this book I felt particularly drawn to the character of Rachel, a woman trying so hard to have that perfect life when, in reality, as with all of us, her life wasn’t so perfect. She had a special needs child as well as two other children and was trying so hard to manage the stress, I couldn’t help but sympathize with her.
Jessica Clayton has spent her adult life on the road helping people downsize. She has learned its the best way to keep her heart safe not to mention she loves what she’s doing. Jess is on her way to Cape Sanctuary, the town she was happy to leave behind, to help a client reduce the clutter around her home. Her sister Rachel still lives there and she hopes this visit will bring them closer together. Jess soon becomes attached to the older woman she is helping out along with the woman’s adult son and his daughter. Emotions soon become to much for her and she doesn’t know what she is going to do when her time is up in Cape Sanctuary and her next mob is up. Follow along as Jess works through her issues and tries to open her heart to those around her. This was a lovely and emotional read that takes you on Jess’s journey, showing you that true love and acceptance can help break through even the toughest of barriers.
THE PATH TO SUNSHINE COVE (Cape Sanctuary Book #2) by RaeAnne Thayne is a wonderful Women’s fiction story featuring two sisters who have dealt emotionally with their shared tragic past differently. This story also includes a budding romance and a HEA. Even though this is the second book in the Cape Sanctuary series, it stands completely on its own.
Jessica Clayton has made a career out of helping people downsize. She feels comfortable in her own downsized, nomadic life with no permanent relationships other than her best friend and co-owner of their company.
Jess has accepted a job in Cape Sanctuary for a few weeks to be able to visit her little sister, Rachel and her family. Their relationship has been strained and she wants to get back to their close childhood friendship, but since the tragic event that changed their lives, she is afraid to open herself up possibly being hurt again.
Rachel put down roots in Cape Sanctuary with a loving foster family and has been happily married with children, or so it seems. With her youngest diagnosed with autism and her wanting to have everything in control and perfect, her happy life and marriage is disintegrating. She needs Jess’ help, but Jess does not do permanent.
Both sisters need each other more than ever. Can Jess and Rachel come together and move on from the past which has overshadowed the decisions in their lives?
I loved the characters in this story. I had so much empathy for Jess and when I found out why she joined the Army, I was in tears and then completely understood why she was so blocked off from attachments. I was annoyed at first with Rachel and her perfection, but as the story progresses you realize why and it completely changed my first feelings. Nate, who is the son of the owner of the home Jess is decluttering, is the perfect romantic interest for her. He is understanding of Jess’ background and feelings and does not push, but is always there to listen and Jess does offer comfort when he needs it even as she fights it. There are no sex scenes in this story, just a budding romance which is elaborated on in the epilogue. All the characters in this story are written with a realism that jumps off the page and into your heart. The descriptions of Cape Sanctuary make me want to visit and just watch the sun set over the ocean.
I highly recommend this story full of love, understanding, forgiveness and family.
RaeAnn Thayne never disappoints.
Love the setting
Poorly written. Repetitive. Predictable
The Path to Sunshine Cove is many stories wrapped up in one fantastic book! For Jess and Rachel, it is the path to reestablishing the bond the two sisters had as children. For Eleanor, it is the path to decluttering her home and moving on after the loss of her beloved husband. For Sophia and her father, Nate, it is the path to navigating the teen-age years with a single father. And for Jess and Nate, it is the path to overcoming previous losses and fears as they learn to move forward and seek happiness. The characters are wonderful, the story is touching, and the setting is idyllic. I loved the book and recommend it!
Trigger warning – there is a LOT of unresolved childhood trauma in this book, including domestic violence, emotional abuse, and more.
I think the story line itself was nice. Woman makes her living traveling around the country helping people declutter their homes chooses a job in the city her somewhat estranged sister lives in. Said sister is trying to live an insta-perfect life and ignore the fact that it’s all crumbling down. Interesting premise. I could have done without all the violent trauma they went through, and why were so many people ex military? Weird. The biggest thing I didn’t like about it was that they all could have used therapy and yet nobody did. Overall, not as subshiney as I would have liked.
I have read and enjoyed other books by this author set in Cape Sanctuary and couldn’t wait to return to this quaint town. I love the setting and the characters that have been in these books and this book was no different. I love how the author brings real issues into her books and how she addresses them. In this latest book one character is trying to come to terms with the loss of her husband and letting go of some of the things in her house. Another character has a child that has been diagnosed with autism and the challenges that go along with it. And another character is trying to come to terms with her past and how it has affected her life and her future. Through it all I was rooting for them and knew that everything would work out. These books always have a happy ending which was just what I was looking for.
A captivating story of two sisters and how their lives were affected by the horrors of their childhood. Each found a different way to cope but neither was happy. They’ll find the way to happiness has as many turns as the path to Sunshine Cove.
Aside from being a place I would love to visit Cape Sanctuary reminds me of the towns that my parents and I used to visit on weekend drives. Having grown up in the San Francisco Bay Area, there were no shortage of such towns. To me, a setting that invokes good personal memories is almost as important as the plot or the characters. It certainly can help to put the reader in a positive frame of mind for reading. I liked the way the author shaped this story. I actually found myself wishing that Jess existed and would be available to help me and my mom clean out her house. One thing that stood out to me in the previous book and is again present here is how well the author captures teenage girls. Sophie is a real person, not a caricature of a teenager. I also thought that Rachel was a perfect example of today’s social media conscious society. Great message: When we stop to actually listen to each other, we can learn so much more than hanging on to assumptions and past interactions. What is a good book without romance? Jess’s client Eleanor Whitaker’s husband died 6 months ago and has hired Jess to declutter her house. Eleanor forgot to mention that her handsome contractor son Nate lives in a separate house on the property with his daughter. I loved their banter and love hate relationship.
The story is told from the points of view of Jess, Rachel and Nate. Eleanor’s stories are at times heartbreaking and Rachel’s mischievous children bring humor to the story. The characters became my friends and I hated the story to end
Thank you raeannethayne harlequinbooks, netgalley and suzyapprovedbooktours for an ebook and including me in this tour.
This was a book I found hard to put down. It’s about two sisters who come to realize that they need each other in ways they did not know, it’s about finding love in unexpected places and realizing home can be were your heart is. Loved this story recommend it to all!
I’ve read several books by RaeAnne Thayne. She’s a wonderful writer, but this one is probably the best book I’ve read by her. She takes on some very difficult topics- abuse, violence, loss and all of the ups and downs of parenting. Even though the topics are heavy, I never felt overwhelmed by them. The characters are real people dealing with all life throws at them. The setting is beautiful, and the portrait of the importance of love and family is inspiring. Just what I needed during these tumultuous times.
This is the second in a new series. I feel in love with the town of Cape Sanctuary after reading the first one and couldn’t wait to read this book. It definitely didn’t disappoint. This story was about sisters, Rachael and Jess, who had a traumatic childhood that impacted them both in different ways. Rachael became the homemaker type and Jess became the loner who doesn’t put down roots anywhere. Jess comes to Cape Sanctuary to help Eleanor Whitaker declutter her home and spend some time with her sister and her family. While there Jess falls for Eleanor’s son. Could she actually change her nomadic ways and have a life she never dreamed was possible? I found myself tearing up several times, but I definitely couldn’t stop reading. Love, family, friends and forgiveness can heal the wounds. Looking forward to the next in the series.
Jess helps people organize and downsize their homes. She has taken on a new client, Eleanor, who lives in the town of Cape Sanctuary. Jess has a sister who lives in the same town. She doesn’t get to see Rachel and her family often enough. Jess and her sister have a complicated past. Everything changed after a family tragedy when Rachel was 13. While she’s in town working with Eleanor, Jess will have the chance to spend time with Rachel.
Jess travels in an awesome Airstream she has named Vera. Eleanor has given her permission to park Vera anywhere on the property. Eleanor has already told Jess she won’t be there to greet her. Jess arrives at Eleanor‘s property and is confronted by an angry man. He is Eleanor’s son. It is is quite clear Eleanor has not let her son know about Jess. He is pretty angry as she parks Vera on the property. He’s also very suspicious as just seems to know quite a few details about his family.
The Path to Sunshine Cove holds your interest from beginning to end. The characters are relatable. I enjoy beautiful book covers and all of the books in the Cape Sanctuary series have them. The covers help me imagine being there
I received a complimentary copy of this book. My review is from my own thoughts and I was not required to do so.
Now that I have finished my 2nd short story..Began to listen to this story today. Was a nice way to spend the day to listen to this incredible story. Always enjoy discovering the journey of all of the characters. I love how she shares so many details about all of the side characters.
Thoroughly enjoyed this audio book. The emphasis was on the story and the coming together of 2 estranged sisters . Liked the development of Jess from a broken, lonely independent woman to one who transformed into a caring family oriented person once she experienced true love.
I love every book you write. Looking forward to your next book. I have read every book you have wrote
