They say you learn from your mistakes … but what if they’re not your own?
After four Seasons and no prospects, Lady Samantha is resigned to life as a spinster. Her aunt, Caroline Fitzsimmons, Viscountess Chamberlain, has another option in mind—she insists they set sail to Italy for a tour she hopes might allow her charge to meet and marry a European aristocrat.
His coal mines having suffered … mines having suffered a multitude of disasters, Ethan Range, Marquess of Plymouth, is determined to secure a recent invention from an Italian count to alleviate the danger of fires. He’s none too happy to discover Lady Caroline traveling on the same ship as he is to Rome. He knows her secret and is rather incensed she’s been able to hide Samantha’s true past from the ton.
While taking a late-night stroll on deck, Samantha is confronted by the scowling marquess. Incensed by his assertion that Caroline is really her mother, Samantha barely has time to slap the man before a sudden storm sends a wave of water onto the ship, washing them both overboard.
Forced to save each other, the two end up as castaways on a deserted island in the Mediterranean. Although they face perils a plenty during the week they’re stranded, they have far more to fear from one another than from hunger, weather, and pirates. Can the two overcome their circumstances and realize the mistakes of the past are not their own? Or will their week on the island lead to more turbulence? The heart may be the best life preserver in “The Passion of a Marquess.”

Who is Samantha?
It took Samantha meeting Ethan to find out who she really was. Until then she thought she was the niece of Caroline. Move over “Dynasty”! This series has got it all, plus!
A beautiful love story of how the two meet and fall in love. You will also meet an unusual pirate along the way.
I wanted to box Ethan’s ears every now and again because he only seemed to be thinking with his ‘other’ head but he came right in the end.
Lovely characters, great story and I am really enjoying Michael Troughton’s narrations. He does a good job.
So, a definite thumbs up from me.

Shipwrecked on an island? Can they survive? What happens when they return to society and family?
Fun read, great to have a smart informed heroine who knew more than the hero about nature and survival. Both main characters balanced each other.
Being shipwrecked with a handsome rogue certainly makes for a sensuous read! I loved Sam and Ethan, loved the banter and sizzling chemistry! Being shipwrecked the two have to rely on each other to survive, and the closeness they shared will be their downfall once they return to England. This was a book that kept me intrigued from the very first page, I couldn’t put this book down. Great writing, well paced and engaging secondary characters made this a wonderful read! I highly recommend!

The second book in this series, it is helpful to read The Tale of Two Barons first, as there are numerous cross-references to that novel. Samantha considered herself an orphan, and although her aunt and uncle have reared her, she has become independent of mind and of spirit, making it somewhat difficult to find a suitable match. On a cruise with her aunt, who spends more time below decks than above due to seasickness, Samantha takes a late night break to get some fresh air. She finds the bad-tempered and brooding Marquess of Plymouth taking a late night smoke and is incensed when he insults her in the rudest possible way. In one moment she is slapping his face and in the next, she is having to hold on to him for her very life as they are both swept away by a rogue wave. Cast away, believing the ship is lost, Samantha and Ethan have to depend on one another for their very survival. Far from being missish and terrified, Ethan discovers that Samantha is a font of information and good ideas, making their misadventure that much easier to deal with. As Ethan gets to know her, he discovers that Samantha is everything he needs in a woman, despite his preconceived ideas. He, in turn, is another person altogether when distanced from the responsibilities of his title and Samantha finds herself falling for the moody man. The book is generally well written with a good plot and storyline, however, I did find the number of people and sub-plots a bit distracting at times. The book definitely needs to have an age restriction as scenes of intimacy abound, but otherwise, the book came to a happy and successful conclusion. Very disappointing. I read the first book and, although there were some unlikely situations, I found it charming. This book had incredibly unbelievable situations and events. The behavior and language is inappropriate for the period. After they have frequent sex on the island and the h tells the H that she loves him the H sees her giving their rescuer a hug and decides she has transferred her affections. The H leaves her, expecting to never see her again, without once considering the possibility that she might be pregnant. The last several chapters of the book were so boring I skimmed them. They mostly consisted of characters telling others of the h’s big secret which most of them already knew and nobody really cared about. Including me.
Samantha is on a trip since she gave up on the marriage prospects. Ethan Range is on a trip to get equipment for his mines. When they are on the ship a huge wave takes them and strands them. They do find safety of an island. Samantha is very knowledgeable especially about the island they get stuck on thanks to her friend’s brother. They are able to survive and get back to society. There is obviously more to the story but I did not want to give away too many spoilers.
I read the first book in this series so I recognized a couple of characters. Samantha did not get up to as many shenanigans as she did in the first book with her friends. I did like the book though and will try to find more from this author because it was a pleasant read.

The Marquess Needed Less Passion and More Character
I am so conflicted about The Passion of a Marquess by Linda Rae Sande. There are parts that I like, but also much I don’t like. The best I can do is a Pros vs. Cons list.
Pros:
Interesting plot concept
Likable heroine and likable supporting characters
Edgy dialogue with dry humor.
Happy ending with epilogue
Cons:
Unbelievable parts in the story, including dialogue that’s not true to the period
A selfish, self-centered and unlikable hero
This novel is overly long with too much description and musings
There is way too much explicit sex that’s not just between Ethan and Samantha, but even between supporting characters
There is a lot of swearing, including religious expletives
