The sinking of the Brig Minerva results in many deaths, while for others, the future is suddenly brighter. But it’s not always easy to leave the past behind… governess to two motherless children. But when their father is drowned aboard the Brig Minerva, Felicia must take them to their new guardian in the North of England, where her life is about to be turned upside down.
The Earl of Finlassan has turned his back on the world to pursue his art, and the prospective guardianship of two young girls horrifies him. He soon finds that it’s not his wards who unsettle his life, it’s their governess, who is irritatingly impertinent with a distractingly mischievous smile. Gradually he finds himself drawn out of seclusion by his new muse. But when danger strikes, they will have to uncover the past before they can look to the future.
This is a complete story with a HEA. Book 4 of a 6 book series. A traditional Regency romance, drawing room rather than bedroom.

I have read several in this series and think this is the best. I appreciate the author’s slow build-up to the romance instead of the typical “bodice rippers” in this genre. Just enough mystery and romance that make an enjoyable HEA.
What a lovely book. The description is masterful, characterization delightful and the plot well thought out and presented. Very well written and researched. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
I love all of her books.
I love her books, the time period is my favorite and I get to learn about history during the reading. Interesting story! Clean reads without unnecessary sexual situations, better book because of it. Can’t wait for the next one.
Great story, sweet clean romance
interesting read,kept me interested !
Intelligently crafted and well written! A pleasure to read.
I LOVE Mary Kingswood’s books
I love the whole series of these books! Highly recommend.
This author’s writing appeals to me, and makes me look for the next book, it may be my peculiar taste.
A notch above your average Regency Romance. Love her books!
I enjoyed this enchanting historical fiction that combined mystery and romance. Family lineage was so important, marrying even someone they loved if out of of their station was frowned upon. The main character was an orphan intent on discovering her family ancestry. This novel was a very satisfying read.
Again I’m drawn into the story from page one. And yes, again the brig Minerva is involved, although no mention is made of the money offered to other heirs of those drowned. The heroine is a feisty young women with a lovely character. I so love all the different persons and stories. And now I have to wait another three months for the next part of this tale.
