From Jodi Picoult, one of the most powerful writers in contemporary fiction, comes a riveting, timely, heartbreaking, and terrifying novel of families in anguish — and friendships ripped apart by inconceivable violence. Until the phone calls came at 3:00 A.M. on a November morning, the Golds and their neighbors, the Hartes, had been inseparable. It was no surprise to anyone when their teenage … children, Chris and Emily, began showing signs that their relationship was moving beyond that of lifelong friends. But now seventeen-year-old Emily has been shot to death by her beloved and devoted Chris as part of an apparent suicide pact — leaving two devastated families stranded in the dark and dense predawn, desperate for answers about an unthinkable act and the children they never really knew.

I use this book in a class about mental health
Picoult is so good at surprising the reader with an unexpected ending. Her books are easy to read and definitely page turners.
I’m a big Jodi Piccoult fan & this one doesn’t disappoint.
How well do you really know your children & neighbors? How much would your life change if your teenager died tomorrow? What would you do if your teenage son was charged with murdering his girlfriend? Your best friends daughter? What would you do to find out the truth, while your lives are …
I haven’t read all of Jodi’s books, but of the ones I’ve read, I have yet to find one that isn’t enjoyable, compelling, and also very informative.
Her characters are real, and expose all sides to a moral issue.
Sad book with a haunting outcome but so worth reading!
Any book by Jodie Picoult is worth reading!!
Per usual for this author, she has touched on topics most of us dont want to talk about. Ms. Picoult has handled the subject matter with emotion, finesse, and grace. Tough read because of realism, but well done.

I find myself often not feeling much sympathy for the characters in a Picoult novel. I found Melanie to be the most unlikable character I have read in a long time. I understand her pain in losing her daughter and I understand that she hated Chris for his part in it but I really feel as if this went beyond her daughter’s death. I feel as …
love all books by this author, they never disappoint!
Jodi Picoult knows how to make a reader question everything they think they believe.
Jodi Picoult’s books always leave me with lots to think about! THE PACT was no different. Her characters are well developed and believable; their situations are never easy. I find myself struggling with the moral dilemma as much as they do!
Jodi Picoult writes such great novels about controversial issues and families who are forced to deal with those issues.
I’ve read Jodi Picoult; I’ve enjoyed much of what I’ve read, but I did not enjoy this book. Not because she is not a good writer — we all know she’s a good writer — but this story felt like a YA tragedy attempting, unsuccessfully, to appeal to adults. Not sure. I am sure I found it problematic.
First of all, “a love story” it is not (fyi: on …
This is the second time I’ve actually read this book, and my second Jodi Picoult novel. I bought and read this book at a tumultuous time in Malta, when a young couple where found at the foot of a cliff towards the North of the island, one of them dead, one of them alive. The one who was alive claimed that it was a suicide pact, and that he too was …
All of her books have great stories woven in with meaningful. And sometimes controversial topics. I love her
A different vein for Jodi Picoult
I have enjoyed every book Jodi has written I’m always waiting for her next book to be released
A great read and very though provoking!
