“A laugh-out-loud funny, pitch-perfect novel that will have readers rooting for this unlikely, relatable, and totally lovable heroine, The Overdue Life of Amy Byler is the ultimate escape—and will leave moms everywhere questioning whether it isn’t time for a #momspringa of their own.” —New York Journal of … their own.” —New York Journal of Books
Overworked and underappreciated, single mom Amy Byler needs a break. So when the guilt-ridden husband who abandoned her shows up and offers to take care of their kids for the summer, she accepts his offer and escapes rural Pennsylvania for New York City.
Usually grounded and mild mannered, Amy finally lets her hair down in the city that never sleeps. She discovers a life filled with culture, sophistication, and—with a little encouragement from her friends—a few blind dates. When one man in particular makes quick work of Amy’s heart, she risks losing herself completely in the unexpected escape, and as the summer comes to an end, Amy realizes too late that she must make an impossible decision: stay in this exciting new chapter of her life, or return to the life she left behind.
But before she can choose, a crisis forces the two worlds together, and Amy must stare down a future where she could lose both sides of herself, and every dream she’s ever nurtured, in the beat of a heart.

What a great read. And a great reminder for mothers to take time for yourself some too.
Funny, sad, very realistic and well written.
“Single” abandoned mother get a summer off to rediscover herself.
This is such a great book! Normally I don’t read these types of books but page one I was hooked and I absolutely loved the main character Amy.
This review is really entirely my problem and not the novel’s. I accidentally purchased this as my Amazon First Read of the month, thinking I was on a different novel. I’ve tried and tried to enjoy chick lit, but it’s just not my thing. I decided not to waist the book, so I read it regardless of my disinterest in the genre. While not the worst chick lit I’ve read, I didn’t overly enjoy this either. Very easy read and parts were entertaining, but Amy quite annoyed me at times.
This is a must read ! There we times I laughed out loud and times I cried –it is a wonerderful read.
The Overdue Life of Amy Byler was my Kindle First Reads April pick. I’ve been reading a lot of dark books lately so I wanted something lighter and fun.
Amy Byler is a single mother of two that takes extended “momspringa” in NYC when her “ex-husband” comes back to spend time with the kids. While in NYC she meets a “hot librarian” -Daniel that slowly becomes more than a friend.
The romance between Daniel and Amy was lacking excitement like what you would expect from two people falling in love with each other. I feel like the author could have built it up a little bit more. Also their conversations about books were boring and I found myself skipping through most of them.
I was not able to relate to this whole idea of “momspringa” which is the reason why I didn’t enjoy the book as much as I wanted to.
In general I would describe this book as easy but forgettable summer read.
This book is everything you need in your life right now! This book is hilarious, poignant and thought provoking. My favorite quote from the book is “I must never again forget to care for myself”.
The protaganist, Amy Byler is a school librarian and single mom with two children, teenage years. Her exhusband had left them all 3 years ago but suddenly he is appearing out of nowhere wanting three months with the kids. All this leads of to Amy going on a “momspringa” in New York City.
I laughed so much during this novel and there are some definite “bookish” themes in the book with two of the characters are librarians.
The author has created such likeable characters that I found myself rooting for.
The fact is, I am not a mom, but this book is for EVERY woman in every situation. I loved it so much and I highly recommend it.
