The Outsiders is a dramatic and enduring work of fiction that laid the groundwork for the YA genre. S. E. Hinton’s classic story of a boy who finds himself on the outskirts of regular society remains as powerful today as it was the day it was first published.

One of the great classics. even my kids loved it.
I found this book entertaining and fun to read.
I read this in school, I loved it. It was sad when Johnny died and I forgot who else died, been a long time but Great book.
If you haven’t ever read this one… you should! This story has stayed with me my entire life and is one of the reasons I’m an author.
Great insight into the world of teens.
Another re-read recently. I love to return to old books that I loved.
Best opening line ever. Simply a classic that must be read. These characters and their plights are timeless.
The characters the set up was all wonderful. Definitely one of my favorite books
i love it :0
One of the better books I read in school, although I read it for my own pleasure. The characters re relatable and the story is well told.
I’ve used this novel in adult ESL classes as well as 6th grade Language Arts courses. The author was just 13 herself when she penned the novel, while the reading level/vocabulary are not so advanced that second language learners will be lost or frustrated. My students absolutely adored this book!
The coming of age in teenagers. This is an absolute 8th grade reading book! I read it when I was in 8th grade and have helped my children, as they read it, to understand the comparisons of today’s kids and when the story was written. This book is a book that will last a lifetime as it relates to all walks of life and groups!
The Only reason I read this book was because the teacher explained the author was only 15 years old and I found that amazing I also felt a kind of kinship I would say having had a poem published in a Weekly or monthly scholastic publication I don’t remember if it was the weekly reader or another one. My English teacher had sent it in I would …
This book is just as amazing the fourth time as it was the first. Hinton does an amazing job at world-building. Even if you know what happens, you’re kept on the edge of your seat, waiting for the next part. Every time I reread it, I end up staying up far too late to finish it because I don’t want to stop. The character development is phenomenal. …
I first read this book nearly 40 years ago while a Jr High student. I fell in love immediately with all of the characters, and this is to-this-day my favorite book ever. (And I have read a lot of books!) This is one of the few books that I have read more than once, in fact I have read it at least 5 times. I even read it to my daughter when she …
I’ve lost track of how many times I have read this classic. I read it before there was a movie. I have bought this book to give as a gift many times. This is a must-read for all.
A classic read!
Intense and sad. Good characters
This movie is a classic that everyone should read when at a junior-high level. Read and learn how being rejected by your peers can make you feel and the harm misbehaving can cause. Do not watch the movie until you read the book.
Somewhat dated, but a still a great story.
