The Outsiders is a dramatic and enduring work of fiction that laid the groundwork for the YA genre. S. E. Hinton’s classic story of a boy who finds himself on the outskirts of regular society remains as powerful today as it was the day it was first published.

I love the family-like bond of the gang members, and the fact that Hinton created such gritty, real people and settings. I never tire of reading this novel, or – as a teacher – seeing year level after year level of teens fall in love with its characters and themes.
I think Soda has been the first literary crush of many, many people.
As a writer, …
I remember reading this book in seventh grade and I was impressed. This book made me realize I actually loved reading and it just depended on the book. You should definitely give it a chance, if you haven’t already read it.
This is my ALL time favorite book! I have read it about 50 times. I am telling you if you miss reading this book you’ve missed out.
My son was assigned to read The Outsiders in school, so I thought I’d read it too. I found it to be a very dark and gritty coming-of-age novel with a strong message at its core.
The Outsiders is told through fourteen-year-old Ponyboy’s point of view, and paints a vivid picture of his life and the struggles he and his friends and family face. …
I read it for school and thought it was going to be one of those books that you have to force yourself through but as soon as I finished the first chapter I didn’t want to stop reading it. I loved the book and it is still one of my top 5 books I’ve ever read. Also, the movie is really good but make sure to read the book first.
The suspense was real this book was really a page-turner especially since I am only in 7th grade it was a great book to start the year with I even broke the rules to read it I finished it in two days because every chapter was a cliffhanger it was a little sad but great book I would give it a 100/10 if that was a choice.
I loved his book I read it in my English class. I couldn’t stop reading. I actually felt like I was in the scene playing a part in a book. don’t red the bottom if you don’t want me to spoiled but this was good book and the sad part is when Johnny died:(
I think this book is amazing!!
There is just something about this book that keeps me coming back to it over and over.
If you haven’t read this classic book in a while, I recommend reading it again. It is so important. It’s sad, real, and inspirational all at the same time. “Stay gold, Ponyboy.” What a ride this book is. A quick read, but a truly valuable read. Everyone should read this book.
While the story itself is moving, what really interests me is that it was written by a 15-year-old girl who flunked English because she was writing it.
One of my all time favorites
Considered one of the first—if not THE first—Young Adult novels, The Outsiders is the classic tale of the conflict between the greaser and social teen cliques in 1960s Oklahoma. It spawned a faithful movie adaption directed by Francis Ford Coppola in the 1980s. If you’ve seen the movie, then there aren’t any surprises in the novel. It’s a …
This book should not be missed. Even though it has a specific setting that some readers may claim is old fashioned, the themes presented are still relevant today, and the characters could be walking the streets of your neighborhood.
I read this book among others by the same author. Loved it. It was a right of passage to read this when I was in school.
Great character development. CLASSIC
It’s by far my favorite I’ve ever read. I 100% recommend it!!
Although we read this book as a class in Middle School, it was a page-turner I was excited to read. The story sticks with me even today. I feel like this is a classic everyone needs to read.
