Now an HBO limited series starring Ben Mendelsohn! Evil has many faces…maybe even yours in this #1 New York Times bestseller from master storyteller Stephen King. An eleven-year-old boy’s violated corpse is discovered in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City’s most popular citizens–Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, … League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon have DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.
As the investigation expands and horrifying details begin to emerge, King’s story kicks into high gear, generating strong tension and almost unbearable suspense. Terry Maitland seems like a nice guy, but is he wearing another face? When the answer comes, it will shock you as only Stephen King can.

Another very good Steven king story. A unique story that keeps you going right to the end.
I’m a huge Steven king fan..
i love this book
This book had me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t put it down! Wouldn’t recommend reading it at night
All time favorite book from Stephen King!
Horrifying. The worst nightmare of any parent, with a ball busting, supernatural, only SK could have thought of it in his mind twisting kind of way. JUST WOW!
My favourite book of 2018 and one of the best books I’ve ever read. Period. This is Stephen King at his absolute best.
Great writing by a master of the craft
It was well written and kept me guessing. The characters were true to life.
I’m a King fan, but this one didn’t work for me. Didn’t even finish it.
Started out great, couldn’t put it down and then it turned sci-fi . I was disappointed.
Stephen King is one of my all-time favorite writers, Author !!Since I was a young child I’ve been enjoyed reading his novels, he inspired me to become a writer myself, even though I lived in Maine for over a decade never had the pleasure of meeting him in person sadly!
Mystery thriller meets Horror. A win win.
Stephen King at his best. Makes you want to look under the bed at night!!!!
This story takes place after a horrible car accident. Jenna Gray ends up in a small Welsh town trying to escape the memory of the accident, and the loss of her child. She meets a few nice people but doesn’t ever reveal her past to them. She wakes in nightmares of the accident and can’t seem to fully escape. She starts to heal by walking along the beach and taking pictures of words she draws in the sand.
The other part of the story revolves around the Bristol police officers who were on the case of the car accident. They have been searching for a year for the driver who fled the scene of the accident, but the case has gone cold. One officer cannot let it go and continues to search for leads to mkght bring the town some peace.
This was a pretty good book. After reading quite a few duds in a row, I was relieved for finally read a book that I wanted to stay up late to finish. There are quite a few surprises in this book that you don’t see coming and I think the story is well written. (well – the author uses the word fortnight a few too many times, but I digress).
The plot twist is worth this book. It takes a while to get there, but I think that is what makes it so good. You are SURE you know where the story is going until…..it turns completely around. I was so intrigued and surprised, and I finished the book in 2 days just because I had to see what the end was going to be.
I encourage you to read this one. It is a mystery, thriller and I promise you won’t be disappointed.
“Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.”—A. Conan Doyle
Popular Flint City little league coach, Terry Maitland is known and loved by all. But when an unspeakable act and murder of an 11 year old boy occurs, life as Coach T knows it ends. All evidence points to his guilt and the court of public opinion crucifies Terry and his family before they even have a chance to prove his innocence.
Detective Ralph Anderson has never worked a case like that of Terry Maitland’s. When he starts taking a second look at the evidence, there is just a niggling of doubt of Terry’s guilt starting to wiggle into the back of his mind. Detective Anderson joins up with an unlikely team to further investigate the murder and as the puzzle pieces start forming a picture of the truth behind the crime, Detective Anderson must open his mind to all possibilities…or find himself the next victim.
The King blew me away with his creepy mystery The Outsider. As the pages turn, you begin to question what you see and what you perceive as the truth…“Reality is thin ice, but most people skate on it their whole lives and never fall through until the very end.”
Definitely going on my keeper shelf! Highly recommend!
I have been a fan of King’s since I read The Stand as a teenager, and his latest book is another reading feast. I can’t say much about the plot, other than that this book will literally keep you on edge, and King delivers a story line that I guarantee will take you utterly by surprise. The writing is top notch as you would expect, the characters are ones you believe in, and the bad is “bad” in true King style. An exceptional read and amongst his best work to date.

About everything srephen king writes is great !!
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. King’s writing never fails to draw me into the story. That being said, it wasn’t his best work (IMO), and the ending felt a bit rushed. Those are small complaints about an otherwise intriguing novel.
Couldn’t put this book down for the first few hundred pages….then it got weird and super slow. Ending felt rushed and was not great.
