Now an HBO limited series starring Ben Mendelsohn! Evil has many faces…maybe even yours in this #1 New York Times bestseller from master storyteller Stephen King. An eleven-year-old boy’s violated corpse is discovered in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City’s most popular citizens–Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, … League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon have DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.
As the investigation expands and horrifying details begin to emerge, King’s story kicks into high gear, generating strong tension and almost unbearable suspense. Terry Maitland seems like a nice guy, but is he wearing another face? When the answer comes, it will shock you as only Stephen King can.

Always a Stephen KIng fan. Gr eat story development. Uses some characters from Mr Mercedes.
Absolutely obsessed, you couldn’t stop reading this if you wanted to! You have to keep going to see where this was going to end up! Stephen King never disappoints. What a creative mind.
What a great story with great characters and all tied to “America’s game” or so we say. I loved this book but the 4 rather than 5 came from an ending that just would not come for me. I don’t know, maybe this is the new way but waaaaaay to long; now the rest fo the book is great!!
I usually don’t review a book until I finish reading it but I’m halfway into it and it’s as if it had an unexpected climax that could have been a dramatic ending. Now am looking forward to the second half. It’s like reading 2 books in one. Great book.
Perfect Stephen King!
Wonderful!!!
Although it is a doorstopper of a book(560 pages), I still did not want it to end because I was enjoying it so much.
One of my favorite King books so far. I’ve been reading King novels for about 40 years. This one leads us back to King’s horror roots. Scary and it stays with you long after the final page. The other great thing is, he brings back characters from the Bill Hodges trilogy that began with Mr. Mercedes. Likable characters and memorable storyline.
Vintage Stephen King. It is more like his earlier work which always captivated, scared, and entranced me.
Love Stephen King and this book didn’t let me down
I haven’t finished this book yet. I have about 1 quarter of it left. So far, I really am enjoying it. Its a mystery and has a twist to it, as only King can put into it. The whole book keeps me guessing what will be next.
Typical Stephen King. Very entertaining.
Classic, excellent work from Stephen King.
Steve is at it again! He doesn’t really cover any new ground in the Outsider but we do meet an old friend (not telling who) and make a few new ones. I LOVE his writing, he takes me on an enjoyable journey with every book. This is a good book and I would recommend it. However, I did find it lacking in character development both individually and as a coherent team. As King readers know, he is amazing at create a ramshackle team and developing characters we love and watch grow. While I did see growth in our “old friend,” overall the characters were more shallow then we have come to expect from King. But even with that said, it is a fun ride.
Stephen King never fails to keep me absorbed in his books. this one is no exception. it’s fast paced, and hard to put down once you start. He incorporates characters from other books into this one, which makes the book that much better to read.
You are glued to this book
Loved this book
Story incorporates Mercedes man
Steven King never disappoints!! This is one of his best.
Stephen King at his best. Well defined characters, interesting story line and I particularly enjoy it when he brings back characters from previous well loved books.
