Now an HBO limited series starring Ben Mendelsohn! Evil has many faces…maybe even yours in this #1 New York Times bestseller from master storyteller Stephen King. An eleven-year-old boy’s violated corpse is discovered in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City’s most popular citizens–Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, … League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon have DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.
As the investigation expands and horrifying details begin to emerge, King’s story kicks into high gear, generating strong tension and almost unbearable suspense. Terry Maitland seems like a nice guy, but is he wearing another face? When the answer comes, it will shock you as only Stephen King can.

King is a fantastic writer. I don’t love all of his books, but the many I have enjoyed I really have loved! This is one of those. The impossible becomes possible, and the plot keeps one turning the pages long past bedtime!
Well written as usual by stephen king. Good story line. One or two of the murder details were totally unnecessary but all in all one of his better books in the last few years
It took too long to get into the normal Stephen King stuff. Not one of my favorite Stephen King books.
I always enjoy reading Stephen King, though he occasionally bombs, in my opinion. But he was in fine form here.
I like most of Stephen King’s work and this book was no exception. Kept me reading to the very end!
King’s latest novel The Outsider is a truly memorial look at society and the male/female relationship. When all females on the planet, except one, falls asleep a spidery material comes out of their mouth, nose and ears and wraps the body in a cocoon. I caution you not to try and remove the cocoon. Remember I warned you!
It is an excellent book to read.
Stephen King remains one of the best. His novel The Outsider grasps the readers worst fears from the first pages as an unknown entity catapults chaos upon a small town resulting from a horrific crime. The impossible and unimaginable unfolds as King sprinkles his usual extraordinary terror throughout this suspenseful tale. Starting off with a gut wrenching beginning, a tension filled middle, and a shocking climatic ending makes this book well worth reading for all Constant Readers.
As always, King does not disappoint. I really enjoyed this book.
More like the “old Stephen King”. I races through it!
Thought it had an overall great story, the twist that took the story in a different direction that I didn’t expect from the first part of the book.
I wasn’t sure if I would like this book, but after reading the first chapter, I was hooked. It is along the lines of the Mr. Mercedes series, as in it is an investigation of a child’s murder. The new characters are great, and the last half of the book brings in Holly from previously mentioned series.
As a lot of Stephen King books, expect your dose of the supernatural. This was a fun read, perfect for the summer. Not as good as my favorite, Doctor Sleep, but still an excellent addition to any King fans’ library!
For the people who liked the bill Hodges trilogy, here’s holly gibney, trying to parse the case, minus bill or Jerome.
I read this book in 3 days! I could not put it down. I have always loved Stephen King and this book is like his first books. Loved it!
Kept you guessing all the way through. Totally Stephen King at his best. Creepy and fun. Only King can do that.
Fun summer read. Not one of King’s best, but very good narrative. Good characters. Kept my interest.
One of Kings best works.
More excellent King, the character set up in beginning is a tad slow but end takes you in a very unexpected direction
I always like Stephen King’s books. Granted this wasn’t one of his best, but still had great characters, even returning characters from other series.
Steven King is my favorite writer, because his books are always entertaining and suspenseful.
