Now an HBO limited series starring Ben Mendelsohn! Evil has many faces…maybe even yours in this #1 New York Times bestseller from master storyteller Stephen King. An eleven-year-old boy’s violated corpse is discovered in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City’s most popular citizens–Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, … League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon have DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.
As the investigation expands and horrifying details begin to emerge, King’s story kicks into high gear, generating strong tension and almost unbearable suspense. Terry Maitland seems like a nice guy, but is he wearing another face? When the answer comes, it will shock you as only Stephen King can.

Good story. Good characters. Tough subject matter, but a pretty good Steven King outing.
Classic King. You start out thinking it is a police procedural, and next thing you know, you are in the middle of a great horror story.
Great!
I like the cross over aspect of this book – keeping the world of Mr. Mercedes alive! I like the combo of supernatural and police procedural. Well done!
Not interested in Stephen King books anymore.
Scary and thought provoking.
We caught up with an old friend and it’s a Steven King story what more could you want
Great Read!! Will read again later.
Some great characters in here and I love that he brought Holly back into the fold. Interweaving of folklore and superstition with everyday life. Couldn’t put it down!
Typical Stephen. I enjoy the links between books. This links to Finders, Keepers. Good beginning in that I couldn’t figure it for quite a few chapters.
I enjoyed this Stephen King story, it contains his usual trademarks; the mystery, the supernatural elements, the tragedies and good, flawed and tragic characters who are victims of strange circumstances to say the least, so if you like thrillers, suspense and King’s novels and short stories, I highly recommend this book. Pardon me for this short review, as I am not a very good reviewer of books or movies for that matter, but I hope this short review will be helpful to anyone considering buying this book; I found it to be a good read.
Classic King story. I have not read very many of his books sence his accident as his style changed. This was good.
You know what you’re going to get from Stephen King: well developed charachters, a twisted plot, something supernatural and excitement till the end. The Outsiders will not disappoint. The charachters are very interesting and the plot is quite original. He brings in one of the characters from his previous 3 books and it’s a pleasure to see her. The story basically goes with the idea that once you’ve elimanated all the possibilities, whatever you’re left with, no matter how out of this world, is the answer. This is the quickest 560 pages you’ll ever read, and when finished, you’ll be completely satisfied.
As usual in a Stephen King novel, everything begins normally then suddenly the plot takes a left turn and normalcy is upside down and on its head. I love reading King’s novels because, they are not just entertaining, there is an underlying story that causes the reader to think beyond the page and become involved with the characters.
I usually do not read Stephen King but I always buy them for my daughter. Started this, then could not put it down.
I enjoy Stephen King writing in the “police procedural” genre. This is an excellent sequel to King’s Bill Hodge trilogy with the return of the quirky PI, Holly Gibney character.
A great book and a teriffic story with some disturbing twists that made it all the better. Highly recommend!
Wow! In typical King fashion I was hooked from the beginning to the end. Enjoyed the return of a character from a previous book. The content kept me guessing and the characters were believable. Very highly recommended!
I don’t like stories that children are the victims. So, this was a difficult book for me to stay with once I started. This is a brutal story with twists as only King can create. It is well written and ends better than I thought it would.
Classic, page-turning King! Can’t miss this one.
