Trapped in his tiny mountain cabin, she didn’t expect to fall for his big heart.Exposing a prominent criminal family with an investigative news report didn’t exactly work out the way Sabrina had hoped. Instead of basking in the glory of her article’s success, she’s on the run from a powerful man who wants her dead. To stay safe, she’s forced to trade one bad situation for another. Stuck in the … Stuck in the Montana wilderness, she’s secluded from anything resembling civilization or the modern-day world. The only good thing about her situation is the gorgeous mountain man assigned to protect her. Too bad he isn’t the slightest bit interested in a city girl like her.
Beau likes his life quiet and simple. Give him a peaceful day hiking in the woods with his dog, and he’s a happy man. He has no use for large crowds, noisy cities or dramatic women. So when a hotshot reporter rolls into town, dragging her big-time problems with her, he should have run for the hills. Instead, he volunteered to keep her safe. Bringing her into his world won’t be easy, but if he can convince her that Montana isn’t as terrifying as she believes, they might just be the perfect match.

This book kept me reading from page one to the end. I could not put it down. One minute I was cheering the leading lady on, the next minute I was laughing at the silly mess she was making of everything, and then I was crying and crabbing for the tissues. I will be reading this one over and over again!!!!
GENRE: Contemporary
THEME: Romance, Small Town, Mature
REVIEW:
Perry does it again, I swear each book in this series gets better and better and I fall head over for the new alpha male. I didn’t think anyone could beat the soft spot I had for Silas, but Beau just became my number one with his rugged big heart.
The Outpost follows Sabrina, who was introduced at in the last book, best friend of Felicity. She is a spitfire investigative reporter who dug herself into a dangerous story that lead to the mafia coming after her. Beaten and needing a place to hide, Sabrina is offered to be taking to an Outpost in the Montana wilderness with Beau, a friend of Felicity’s husband and also someone who knows the ins and outs of the wilderness. Beau is a former hotshot turned search and rescue is not really prepared for Sabrina, they are absolute opposites but slowly they both open each other up to what neither thought they needed.
Sabrina, has always wanted to help bring in the bad guys, admiring those who have done so, she wanted to do her part, especially when this current story hit close to home. Sabrina had a tough past, with the loss of a friend and now she’s put herself in danger. Even though I felt what she did to get her story was insane, I know it came from a good place. She wanted to shut these bad guys down and sacrificed herself to stop them. I enjoyed watching her come to terms with the possibility of a new life, she started to loved the outdoors and found something in herself that she didn’t know was there. In the end Beau not only introduced her to a new way to live but helped her see her potential in herself.
Beau, oh did this mountain man steal my heart. He tried to keep his chemistry with Sabrina in check but those two had so much connection that it was no use. He has a big heart, he loves being in the wilderness, loves his job and adores all his family to pieces. Plus he has an adorable dog Boone that kinda stole the show in some parts. Beau has to leave Sabrina alone at the outpost through out the season, each time becomes harder for him to leave her. As they do have their ups and downs, he is keeps hoping that Sabrina might consider a life in Montana. But nothing is ever easy for these two and they have to overcome a lot.
Overall I loved this story so much, especially because it show opposites attract. Beau and Sabrina have become my new favorite couple, the romance was insanely off the charts and there is nothing more romantic then being off in a “cabin” setting, under the stars and a camp fire. All the past couples are back too, and it was great to see the strong friendship between Felicity and Sabrina, grow even more with Sabrina in danger and Felicity taking the next step in life. I can’t wait for the next book with Beau’s sister Maisy, she has been through so much and I want a happy ending for her.
Sabrina and Beau are what make The Outpost my favorite in the Jamison Valley series by far.
Beau and Sabrina’s story exceeded my expectations! I didn’t think I’d like my favorite gruff mountain man with a heart of gold getting together with the city girl journalist, but Sabrina held her own. She was feisty, spirited, and even better-she had the intelligence to know when to follow directions. I loved how their romance developed over a period of time. And with the edge of suspense, it just put things into a sharper perspective.
Sabrina <3 Beau.
Beau Holt = perfection.
Sabrina Mackenzie = strength.
Together they are unstoppable.
Sabrina is in a serious pickle, she runs to her BFF for help, and boy does she find it!
Beau is quite possibly the “nice guy” you always hear about, however this one is most definitely not going to finish last 😉 He’ll stop at nothing to keep Sabrina safe, even if that means losing her forever...
These two are my favorite couple from Jamison Valley, and that is hard to say bc they’re all such amazing characters!
Boone, where can I get a Boone?
Sabrina’s growth from page one was something special. It’s amazing how she discovered things about herself repeatedly and loved every second of it. She is certainly a ‘roll with the punches’ kind of gal!
Beau *swoon* quite possibly THE SWEETEST hero I’ve ever read. I have not one complaint where he’s concerned.
I adored this story!
Devney Perry can write! The plots and characters that she puts together flow so seamlessly. The Outpost is Book #4 in her Jamison Valley series of standalones, and each one has made me want to visit this area more and more (but during the summer- I’m not a big fan of snow).
The Outpost is the story of Beau, someone that everyone- family, friends, and citizens of Prescott- has come to constantly rely on. For the most part, Beau doesn’t mind. Even when Sabrina comes to town in need of protection. Beau takes Sabrina on, and he manages to hide her away in an outpost in the mountains. Through her 6 month separation from the world- Beau being her only connection-Sabrina comes to love her little outpost and the simplicity of life. She also comes to love Beau.
This story fit perfectly with this series. And the author did such a great job describing the outpost and surrounding area that I could visualize it so well.
I am anxious for Maisy’s story next!!
She does it again! seriously, if you havne’t picked up one of these books, do it now!
Just when I think Devney Perry can’t top her last book, she goes and proves me wrong. AGAIN!
The Outpost is a story of mystery, intrigue, the Russian mob and love. Most importantly, love! When Sabrina finds herself in a pickle with Russian mob arms dealers, she escapes to the only safe place she has ever known, her best friend Felicity. Not wanting to place anyone in danger, she knows she can’t stay in Felicity’s hometown of Prescott. It is decided that Sabrina will be taken to an outpost in the mountains to keep her off the grid and out of harm’s way. Beau agrees to drive Sabrina to the outpost hours away. At first site, she doesn’t know how she will survive one night in the dirty shack in the middle of nowhere. Before long, however, the outpost becomes her haven. She feels safe far away from harm and close to Beau.
“That spark in his eyes was a beacon calling to my soul. Telling me to dock my fucked-up ship in his port and he’d make sure it didn’t sink.”
The first few weeks were an exercise in restraint. Her immediate physical attraction to Beau had gown since experiencing his kindness and witnessing his protectiveness. Beau was a hero in the true sense of the word. At last they agree that they can’t ignore their attraction any longer and agree to give in to their feelings for as long as they have together, even if it ruined them.
“No man would ever hold me this well. I was made to be wrapped in these arms.”
When the elements and reality set in months later, their mountainside bubble is burst. Sabrina must return to Seattle, away from Beau, to keep those she cares about away from harm. But will she be safe? Can Beau stay away? Can they both let the only person they dared to love just slip through their fingers?
I love that Sabrina not only is saved, but saves herself in this book. She is brave, compassionate and is just waiting for someone to knock down her walls allowing her to love and be loved. Beau is a strong hero but he gives Sabrina the tools to be strong herself and loves how courageous she is. It is a mutual admiration and attraction that drives these two toward one another over and over again.
“Goliath?”
“Hmm.”
“Grow back the beard.”
He pulled me closer and kissed the top of my hair. “Your wish, Shortcake.”
The Outpost is book four in the Jamison Valley series, and at this point, I’m thoroughly invested in all the characters and their stories. Sabrina and Beau’s story is an opposites-attract, small-town romance with a wonderful cast of characters, a complicated and twisty plot, and this book had a good bit more suspense than the last.
These two characters were about as opposite as you can get, so I honestly had no clue how the author would make their HEA possible. Not to mention, Sabrina has walls built so high, I wasn’t sure Beau could even see over them. I was totally rooting for him, but there were times I simply wanted to smack Sabrina. She was more challenging to love than Beau, for sure. All in all, I’m glad I held on to the end because it made all the frustration with her worth it.
I’m so glad I’ve taken the time to read more from Devney Perry’s backlist. It’s just continued to cement her near the top of my automatic 1-click list. Stay tuned for more reviews!
NICUnurse’s Rating: I give The Outpost by Devney Perry 4 out of 5 stars!
I’m running out of words to praise this series; I have decided to listen to these books on audio as I fell in love with the narrators expressive voice tones.
Beau and Sabrina’s story was very much a slow burn. Sabrina entrance into the series was a memorable one. On the run and badly beaten up. Whisked away into the Montana outback to recover, recuperate and basically work out what she was going to do with her life now she was wanted by criminals.
This book is a journey of self discovery for both characters. Forced into close proximity with no outside influences both characters start to look back over their life and what they want from it. Born from two very different worlds these characters should not be compatible yet they are both what each other needs it just takes them a copious amount of time to see that they are right for each other.
This series really is a growing community ; a small town romance that continues to win my heart with its wealth of great characters.
Omg..it might be the Best Book in the series…what is with these Montana men!
Sigh!!!I almost want to move to Montana now, where they breed these Gruff, alpha men. Uber sexy and super protective of their women.
Look at Goliath Beau Holt. He loves completely, protects his Damsel in distress, hot shot investigative journalist, Sabrina with his life, cause hers is in danger.
This broad shouldered giant has a softest heart around. He spends his life in Search & Rescue firefighter squad in Prescott, jumping in to douse fires, saving lost and stranded people.
No wonder he doesn’t think twice about coming to Sabrina’s aid when she shows up at her best friend Felicity’s doorstep, all bruised and battered within an inch of her life. Felicity’s boyfriend Silas calls on Beau and here’s him whisking her away to the safety of the unreachable shelter of THE OUTPOST, deep into the mountains.
Some swoony times and sizzling chemistry later, the two are ready to abandon their lives for each other.
I had the most wonderful time listening to Ava Erickson’s amazing diction and accent. Aiden does a bang up job of voicing Beau.
What a treat.
What. A. Treat!!!!
5 stars for Seattle’s Shortcake
I really enjoyed everything I read in this book. The story telling was masterful, can’t wait to read more by this author.
This is a story about a big city journalist who exposed a Russian crime syndicate and placed a target on her back. Safety means a new environment and meeting new friends and finding herself in the process. This is a romance and a thriller and more.
I received a free copy of this book via BookFunnel and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book two people who are complete opposites attract. Their journey is a slow burn as they both try to be practical knowing not to start something since they both belong in very different worlds. But their chemistry when they give in is explosive and something they can’t ignore once they give in. The push and pull between Beau and Sabrina adds so much to the story and is there through the whole book. I loved Beau and Sabrina so much. Their journey showed just how far and how much one will do for love.
Absolutely loved this book – the characters were perfect. You can always rely on Devney Perry for a fab book x
I loved Sabrina and Beau’s story so much. Beau was amazing! I loved all the tension and emotion and the amazing build of them coming together. It was wonderful!
This book has ruined me for all other books. 6 STARS….you heard me S-I-X STARS!!!!! Beau and Sabrina’s story did it for me. It concentrated on their growing lust and love for one another. Who new 6 months at an outpost in the middle of know where with no wifi, cable and a little bitty bathroom/shower would do it for me. Beau is the perfect mixture of alpha and a great man. He is protective of Sabrina, but also wants her to be as comfortable as possible during her time in no man’s land. I have to admit that there every now and then misinterpretation of each other’s words, spoke volumes to me. I don’t know of too many good relationships where there is perfect communication and there are instances in here where I said damn I would have done that, said that or thought he meant that too. Needless to say this book is my number favorite so far for 2018. Though, I am with Sabrina, I would rather hold it in than pee in an outhouse.
3.25 Stars I expected more from this book, especially with such high rated reviews. This was the second book I read in this series, as I read book 2 awhile back. I have to admit, it does take something away from a series when I don’t read it in order, but I also can’t pass up a good book deal.
The premise of the book is a good idea with an investigative report hiding with the help of her friends in an isolated location. I didn’t even know what an “Outpost” or “Biffy” were before I read this book.
The romantic story line brought no surprises and it dragged on before Beau and Sabrina become a couple. There was some suspense which helped keep the book interesting, but not enough to make this story standout.
Enjoyed the storyline and the characters.
I liked this book, enjoyed reading it.
Every book by this author has been amazing.
