Perfect for readers of the bestselling Outlander novels—and don’t miss The Outlandish Companion Volume Two!#1 New York Times bestselling author Diana Gabaldon has captivated millions of readers with her critically acclaimed Outlander novels, the inspiration for the Starz original series. From the moment Claire Randall stepped through a standing stone circle and was thrown back in time to the year … and was thrown back in time to the year 1743—and into a world that threatens life, limb, loyalty, heart, soul, and everything else Claire has—readers have been hungry to know everything about this world and its inhabitants, particularly a Scottish soldier named Jamie Fraser.
In this beautifully illustrated compendium of all things Outlandish, Gabaldon covers the first four novels of the main series, including:
• full synopses of Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager, and Drums of Autumn
• a complete listing of the characters (fictional and historical) in the first four novels in the series, as well as family trees and genealogical notes
• a comprehensive glossary and pronunciation guide to Gaelic terms and usage
• The Gabaldon Theory of Time Travel, explained
• frequently asked questions to the author and her (sometimes surprising) answers
• an annotated bibliography
• essays about medicine and magic in the eighteenth century, researching historical fiction, creating characters, and more
• professionally cast horoscopes for Jamie and Claire
• the making of the TV series: how we got there from here, and what happened next (including “My Brief Career as a TV Actor”)
• behind-the-scenes photos from the Outlander TV series set
For anyone who wants to spend more time with the Outlander characters and the world they inhabit, Diana Gabaldon here opens a door through the standing stones and offers a guided tour of what lies within.

This is a companion book to the first four Outlander books. It is written in Diana’s warm, witty, entertaining style, explaining her writing processes and peccadilloes. If you enjoy the books, I think you would enjoy this as well.
It just doesn’t get any better than Diana Gabaldon! Even reading the very beginning where she tells how she got started writing the whole Outlander series is very interesting!
So well written.
Inspired me to read more.
I’ve read all the Outlander series books several times. Diane Gabaldon has such a way with words as she paints a vivid picture that tells her stories. This book complemented all I’ve read by extending knowledge of cultures, geography, personalities etc enhances my enjoyment.
It’s a great reference when you have a question about particular characters or need some background on a specific incident. If you’re a Outlander fan, this is an invaluable tool for filling in the details.
A must read if you are an Outlander lover!
Couldn’t put it down!
This is a cartoon version of Outlander. It was OK…
I love Diana Gabaldon and have read everything and anything to do witb the Outlander series. Not as adventurous as some of her other works but a lovely read none the less.
Diana Gabaldon cannot be topped!
Love Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series and the companion is needed to help you remember some of the lesser characters.
I have been reading and re-reading the Outlander series since the first book. When a series is so complex and covers not only generations of characters but many historical topics it can difficult who’s who and what happened when. I’m incredibly grateful that these two compendium have been written to help the faithful readers follow the multiple storylines.
