Perfect for readers of the bestselling Outlander novels—and don’t miss The Outlandish Companion Volume Two!#1 New York Times bestselling author Diana Gabaldon has captivated millions of readers with her critically acclaimed Outlander novels, the inspiration for the Starz original series. From the moment Claire Randall stepped through a standing stone circle and was thrown back in time to the year … and was thrown back in time to the year 1743—and into a world that threatens life, limb, loyalty, heart, soul, and everything else Claire has—readers have been hungry to know everything about this world and its inhabitants, particularly a Scottish soldier named Jamie Fraser.
In this beautifully illustrated compendium of all things Outlandish, Gabaldon covers the first four novels of the main series, including:
• full synopses of Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager, and Drums of Autumn
• a complete listing of the characters (fictional and historical) in the first four novels in the series, as well as family trees and genealogical notes
• a comprehensive glossary and pronunciation guide to Gaelic terms and usage
• The Gabaldon Theory of Time Travel, explained
• frequently asked questions to the author and her (sometimes surprising) answers
• an annotated bibliography
• essays about medicine and magic in the eighteenth century, researching historical fiction, creating characters, and more
• professionally cast horoscopes for Jamie and Claire
• the making of the TV series: how we got there from here, and what happened next (including “My Brief Career as a TV Actor”)
• behind-the-scenes photos from the Outlander TV series set
For anyone who wants to spend more time with the Outlander characters and the world they inhabit, Diana Gabaldon here opens a door through the standing stones and offers a guided tour of what lies within.

If you are a fan of the “Outlander” Series, this is great for background reading.
It fills in the questions
Love the Outlander series and this goes well with them.
Explains the Outlander world. Love it !!!
It gives insight into the last few books of the outlander series
Great book to check out the people, places, and happenings in Diana Gabaldon’s first four books in the “Outlander” series. It provides a synopsis of “Outlander”, “Dragonfly in Amber”, “Voyager”, and “Drums of Autumn”. All the characters are presented, along with the relevant family trees, an extensive glossary with pronunciation, and the origins of the books’ titles. There is extensive historical treatment of 18th century Scotland, France, and America, as well as Caribbean islands, including Native American and slave individuals. Discussion of research into this history, with medical applications, controversies, and frequently asked questions are included, and the book provides an extensive bibliography and appendices. The author needs to produce a second volume to cover the multiple later volumes of this series, because this one is so well done and practically essential for review before tackling these 1200-page books as new ones come out.
Not as good as the actual books.
Essential book if you are reading or re-reading the entire outlander series
Anyone who has read the Outlander series of books will enjoy the background of these written by the author.
I enjoyed the companion to all the Outlander books. It added extra information to each story. I enjoyed this read. Plus Diana Galbadon is a really interesting to author.
Good gathering of outlander series characters
A great guide to inner workings of all things from the Outlander series, which I’m absolutely addicted to. And apparently I’m not the only one. This book is a guide to all the characters within the series, and a timeline and family tree to help you with a quick who’s who. Very handy when you watch the Starz shows and have forgotten little details from the first few books.
A good companion to the Outlander series.
Have read the author’s books three to four times. This companion goes much deeper in the explanation of details, language, styles, etc., of the language and people and situations.
good background and linkages to the Outlander series
It was interesting to read some of the back story on the characters and the author’s writing process. I wouldn’t think it possible to write such complex stories without an outline but it is effective for Diana Gabaldon. I am anxiously awaiting book nine, Go Tell the Bees I am Gone!
This is an easy-to-read refresher of the books I have previously read in this series. I’m still reading, and enjoying this book. I love it!
The historical details and backstory.
Great companion to the Outlander series.
