OUTLANDER
DRAGONFLY IN AMBER
VOYAGER
DRUMS OF AUTUMN
Scottish Highlands, 1945. Claire Randall, a former British combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding clans in the year of Our Lord . . . 1743. Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of a world that threatens her life, and may shatter her heart. Marooned amid danger, passion, and violence, her only chance of safety lies in Jamie Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior. What begins in compulsion becomes urgent need, and Claire finds herself torn between two very different men, in two irreconcilable lives.

The first book in this series, Outlander, is a book I’d heard about from many people. I was not expecting to get so hooked on Diana Gabaldon’s world building and the tender love story woven through the pages of history. It is the book that gave me appreciation for pure writing genius. As an author, I was inspired. As a reader, this book took me away to places I’d never been before. It’s the best of all worlds, where you can be entertained and learn something at the same time from a work of fiction. I don’t think I’ve ever read a more beautiful portrayal of a true hero: Jamie Fraser. Doubt there will ever be another as “real” to me.
Incredible story…remarkable characters…steamy romance. All of this takes place on two continents, goes through three wars, and across about 200 years in the blink of an eye. You can’t put it down, and you will not want to.
Stunning…Absolutely Stunning!
I absolutely adore Diana Gabaldon and her writing. I have read everything she’s written and can’t get enough of the Outlander story. Her books make you think, are historically accurate, and compelling.
I just LOVE these books… Historical fiction AND time travel, what’s not to love? Couple that with two of my favorite leading characters (Jamie & Claire), well-developed supporting casts, fascinating and meticulously researched history that mixes well- and little-known tidbits together and you get a fantastically involved, exceedingly interesting series. And the Starz series isn’t half-bad either!
I have read this series once before and am currently rereading it before the third season of the show comes out. I feel like I am reading it for the first time and reading new little things as I do.
Diana Gabaldon never fails to keep you involved. Her descriptions are the best I’ve ever seen in print. I’ve enjoyed some books more then others, but always waiting for the next one to be published.
I loved all the books in the series. I think I fell in love with Jamie and the way he loves Claire. They are both strong characters and protect each other, but trust each other enough to respect the decisions each makes. All the characters are well developed and interesting. Although, I loved all the books in the series, my favorite ones where the ones that concentrated on Jamie and Claire
When I started this series I was living in Scotland and some friends were visiting from the US. We were at the Reenactment of the battle of Culloden when I saw these books in the gift shop. After reading the first book I was hooked. I love Scotland and its history and it was exciting to know I walked the same area as in the book. After you read this series, you need to take a trip to Culloden and all of Scotland.
Not a big romance reader and I was very skeptical of the series at first, but I ultimately really enjoyed them. Strong time travelling female protagonist who doesn’t wait around for her man, support characters who are unique and relatable, kilts, and a lot of family drama; the books have a little bit of everything. While slow going at times these book are all around a good read.
Diana gabaldon is the best! Can’t wait for the next novel
The first 4 books of the Outlander series (there are currently 8 main Outlander books published as of 6/17/21 with 9th main book coming out this November). All Outlander books are outstanding but book 1, Outlander, remains my favorite. The books tell the story of a mid 20th century woman who goes back in time to 1743 and meets a hot, dashing highlander warrior named Jamie Fraser who eventually sweeps her off her feet. She eventually marries him even though she is married to another man, Frank (they got married in 1940’s before Claire, the protagonist time travels). I find the bits of history, humor, and wonderful descriptive language draw you in and keep you wanting more. I love Jamie and Claire’s great adventures against the British fabulous. Most women fall in love with Jamie Fraser as he is a hot Scottish warrior that provide wonderful romantic interludes. If you like the books, check out the Outlander show on Starz. Season 1 is mostly authentic to book 1 and is my favoriteseason. However, seasons 2 to 5 are also done well. Seasons 2 through 5 add new topics and delete some book topics from the books but is still authentic. Show does an excellent job of bringing Outlander characters and events to life. I highly recommend all main books of Outlander.
The entire series is fascinating glimpse of earlier times based on the fanciful supposition of time travel. There have since been any number of imitators along the same theme, but I find Gabalden by far the best writer.
Historically accurate romance.
The Outlander series is an awesome series! I read these long, long before they were made into a series, and they were excellent. They have Scottish history and later history in the U.S. They have romance and love for family. Sometimes there are very steamy scenes. There is action and tragic life events. These books have everything!
I really liked all of the books in this series as they were very interesting.
These books captivated me from page one. I love time travel themes and the rich details.
Outlander is my favorite book ever!
Gabaldon is a writer like no other, I have waited impatiently for each and every book to be released!!
If you love amazing steamy historical romances filled with extremely well developed characters that have both strengths and weaknesses, then you will love this box set of four books. Great action, adventure, danger, and emotional drama also feature in this epic tale. Begin with the first book as the books build on each other. This series is a true masterpiece of writing.
An exceptionally well written series.
