What a fantastic book. I have never read a book written by Mary Kubica, but I know I will be reading more. There are so many twists and turns in this book that I’m sure I would get whiplash but I loved it. Just when I was sure I had it all figured out then I would hit one of those wicked twists! Thanks for writing such a great book Mary!
Great story with lots of plot twists! I don’t want to say anything else that might give the story away but what an ending!
I love Kubica’s earlier work, but this one was a stretch from her earlier style.
I loved this book! It grabbed me from the very beginning & I’m still thinking about it long after I finished. The characters & story are riveting. I didn’t expect the ending at all. I’ve been recommending it to my friends.
Whew! That was a whirlwind of a thriller. I actually figured out a big portion of the book about halfway through, and was skeptical of one of the things that was mentioned, but was totally unprepared for what was revealed toward the end of the book.
Sadie and Will are married, but have recently moved to Maine after his sister died. Sadie is hesitant around Will, after confronting him about an affair. Imogen is Will’s niece, and is very withdrawn since his mother’s death. Otto, their 14 year old son, is troubled after being bullied at school, and Tate is still a little boy.
The story is told by Sadie, Camille, Mouse, and Will.
Be prepared to be surprised!

Will and Sadie moved from Chicago and from their troubles to a remote island and a house Will inherited from his sister.
Not sure their troubles were left behind, though. Will became the guardian of his niece who is quite difficult, and then a neighbor is murdered.
The troubles left behind were nothing compared to what was happening to the family now. Threatening notes on their cars, intruders coming in when the house was empty, people spying on them, and Sadie being accused of the neighbor’s murder as well as her family telling her she didn’t see things she saw.
The characters in this book all seemed to have something to hide or some problem with people in their lives.
We meet husbands having affairs, a spooky, sinister-seeming house, gossipy, small-town citizens, and odd-behaving characters.
How did it all fit together, and how did everything happening follow the Fausts to this small island?
Despite the story line being difficult to follow, THE OTHER MRS is a tense, bizarre, keep-you-turning-the-pages thriller. If you can hang in there, the ending is well worth the wait.
The ending wraps up all the loose ends for a satisfying conclusion that will stick with you. 4/5
This book was given to me by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book is so good. My attention was grabbed from the beginning until the end which left me with a wow “I didn’t see that coming” I love a good mystery and suspense storyline where I am trying to figure out who the culprit is and the author has so many different plots and twist, it just keeps me guessing. The author’s characters were so well developed. You can feel their emotions and what they are going throughout the book.
This is my first time reading a book by this author and I look forward to reading more books by her. I highly recommend this book to read especially if you love mystery and suspense storylines, you will not be disappointed.

I received a ARC from Netgalley and this review is of my own honest opinion.
Mary Kubica is a master of suspense, plotting and writing! The Other Mrs. is a fascinating and horrifying tale where you don’t really know whodunit until the very end. Filled with possible and probable suspects, the story entertains throughout every single chapter.
AMAZING!!! So twisted with a lot of omg moments. Great characters you’ll love or hate!!
I recommend
I’m ready for another Mary Kubica book!
Lately all the thrillers have felt like predictable let downs, but The Other Mrs. had me reading through the night unable to stop turning the pages. I couldn’t figure this one out and man, when the reveal comes, it shocked me. It felt like that first clap of thunder in the sky that spooks you and thrills you all at the same time.
Sadie and her husband, Will, along with their two children and dogs are making the move to dreary Maine. Her husband’s sister, Alice, has recently passed, leaving behind a grieving sixteen-year-old daughter. Sadie doesn’t feel good about the house, about taking care of Alice’s daughter, about using this to escape Will’s transgressions. The eerie home and busybody community are things she thinks she can handle, handling the mundane doctor’s appointments might be a welcome reprieve, but when a murder occurs in their new neighborhood Sadie is far more shaken up than anyone else. The murder marks a change, nothing is as it seems anymore, and Sadie doesn’t know who she can trust. Certainly not her son Otto, a victim of bullying, not her disturbed niece Imogen, and definitely none of the neighbors who seem so convinced she was fighting with the now late Mrs. Baines.
The blurb covers the basics and it sounded like your pretty typical suburban drama, but Mary Kubica has more for you. Lurking under the surface of what seems like standard thriller fare is an unpredictable story told from the perspective of three quite unreliable narrators. Sure, it seems like it’s Sadie’s story, but the other woman, Camilla, and a young child only known as Mouse have other plans for The Other Mrs. The Other Mrs. doesn’t take place just in Maine though, Camilla grants us a glimpse into the past, into the Sadie and Will they are not anymore. From their jobs to their old walk-up condo we get an idea that things between Sadie and Will have perhaps always been a bit off kilter, but what at all does that have to do with the murder of their neighbor? Through the three narrators eyes we see that Sadie is slowly losing time, to the point that she begins to even question if the murderer isn’t someone unknown at all, but instead someone in her own home.
Unreliable characters, a heaping pile of lies, and Mary Kubica’s excellent writing gave me just the right sense of foreboding, my anxiety upped with every turned page. While I never could pinpoint just what I thought was happening, the reveal was so grand and made so much sense to me that the entire story just clicked. It’s suspenseful, thrilling, and completely unique. If you’re looking for your next sure-win read, The Other Mrs. is the book to grab.
Brilliant! An utterly absorbing tale of deception and subterfuge. Kubica is a master of sleight of hand. Absolutely loved it!
Murder on a small coastal island town. Many twists, turns, alternating POVs spread out over a generous timeline.
I felt this one dragged some in the middle but when it went? It zoomed!
Thank you to Mary Kubica, HARLEQUIN – Trade Publishing (U.S. & Canada) Park Row and NetGalley for giving me this book in exchange for an honest review.
Sadie, Will, and their sons, Tate and Otto, have just moved to a remote, small island in Maine. They inherited a house, with old furniture, and the guardianship of Will’s sister’s 16-year-old Imogen. Her mother recently committed suicide as the pain of her illness became too much for her. Imogen does not want them there and is vulgar, belligerent, and dresses in dark, gothic clothes.
Sadie is a physician and has a job in the small town at the clinic. Will works as a professor a couple days a week. Sadie has always been the main breadwinner while Will is more of a house husband.
Sadie does not like the house as it seems to give off bad vibes to her. She is hoping though that she and Will can save their marriage after she learned that he had been having an affair when they previously lived in Chicago. She also worries about her son, Otto, who had been bullied in their previous home area.
When a woman down the street is murdered, the whole island is nervous.
Camille met Will in Chicago when he happened to grab her as she carelessly prepared to cross the street in front of a cab. Later, she learned that her roommate, Sadie, was dating Will but she thinks Will should be hers.
Mouse is a little 6-year-old girl who loves her Daddy and their special time together. But when he brings home a new mother for her that Mouse calls Fake Mom, things get really difficult for her.
Wow! What a complicated cast of great characters. I especially loved Mouse because the author has taken great care to have her speak a child would. This is a story that leads the reader through all sorts of scenarios making you wonderful what is real and what isn’t. Scary, nail biting, and compelling. Don’t miss this one.
Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
WOW, what a jaw dropping good book.
Mary Kubica has written one of the best thrillers ever. This book will keep you turning pages until the very end and you will be surprised by the ending. It’s one that will give you chills. Make you take a close look into the darkness to see who is there. It’s totally great for anyone who loves a good thriller.
What would you do for your family? Would you kill for them? Would you have your whole world turned upside down to protect the ones you love? Sadie would and did. She was many people. She was a mother, a Dr, a wife. A friend when you let her be and somewhat of a detective when need be. She loved her husband and two sons more than anything and would do anything to protect them. But would she commit murder? Would she put herself in a position to lose everything? Or would she stand and fight for what was hers?
Will, Sadie’s husband took her and their two boys from Chicago to Maine to live after his sister died. They had to take care of his niece who was sixteen and somewhat of a wild child in many ways. She was also very emotionally upset over what happened to her mother. She didn’t get along well with Sadie and seemed to resent them being there. Will had lost so much of Sadie’s trust after he had an affair. She was trying to learn to forgive him and he was trying to earn back what he lost. He was a part time teacher at the local college and Sadie was the breadwinner of the family. That was just the way they planned things and it seemed to work for them. Personally I didn’t not like or trust Will at all. He was a cheat and sneaky much of the time. I just didn’t like him.
You’ll meet and hear from two other people in this story. Their stories. Camille who was at one time Sadie’s roommate and Mouse, a nickname, who was a child who had a dad she loved dearly and a “fake mom” who treated her terribly when her dad was gone. I hated the “fake mom immensely.” She was just evil. I felt very sorry for Mouse. Camille I didn’t like a lot. She liked Will and would do almost anything to have him.
This book starts out fast and furious and does not let up. It kept me on the edge of my seat until the very last. All your questions will be answered in this wonderful thriller. You won’t be left hanging or wondering what happened to who. It was a pleasure to read this one. It sure did surprise me so much. I did figure out one part. I loved how the author did handle the mental illness aspect of this story. Bringing to light the things that can and do happen when someone suffers from such illness. It was a very well written story that hit on subjects that will make your skin crawl. Make you hold your breath. Make you cringe. It will definitely make you wonder.
I think this was a fantastic thriller.

A 5 star book that I most highly do recommend.
After reading three pages of Mary Kubica’s Pretty Baby a few years ago, I knew she’d instantly become one of my favorite authors, and after The Other Mrs. I promise you she won’t be relinquishing that status any time soon.
In true masterful Kubica fashion, The Other Mrs. is dark and unsettling, with messed up characters galore (and the Maine setting a character in its own right). Kubica has such a unique storytelling style, which pulls you in, mesmerizes and stays with you until long after you’ve turned the last page. Highly recommended.
WOW, I could not put this one down!! Embarrassed to say this is my first book by Mary Kubica and all I can say is, where the heck have I been!? What a twist- an ending I never saw coming!!
Dr. Sadie Foust is dealing with adjusting to small-town life on a remote island off the coast of Maine. Having moved here with her husband and two sons after the suicide of her sister-in-law, Sadie and her husband, Will, find themselves guardians of their niece Imogen and trying to build a new life together after some rocky dealings in their marriage. Shortly after arriving on the small island a neighbor is murdered, sending Sadie on her own personal hunt for the killer. Left on edge, feeling unsafe in a new, unfamiliar, tight-knit community, Sadie will have to be careful just how much she reveals as she gets closer to figuring out who the killer really is.
HIGHLY, highly recommended!!
WOW! Mary Kubica, author of “The Other Mrs.” has written an edgy, intense riveting, captivating, page-turning, chilling thriller that one will not soon forget. I was sitting at the edge of my seat and jumped whenever I heard a sound. This is a book that I had to remind myself not to chew on my permanent french gel manicured nails, or I would break a tooth. The Genres for this novel are Thriller, Suspense, Mystery, Psychological Thriller and Fiction. The timeline for this story is set in the present and goes to the past when it pertains to the characters or events. The story mostly takes place in Maine. The author describes her dramatic cast of characters as complex, and complicated. Some of the characters are quirky and dysfunctional. A good many characters could be suspect of any criminal activity.
The opportunity presents itself for Sadie and Will Foust and family to move into Will’s late sister’s house in Maine to take care of the unfriendly teenage daughter. It seems to be a good time as any for the two to work on their problems and marriage. Little do they know what lies in store for them.
Before they get a chance to get settled, a woman down the street is murdered, and the evidence is pointing close to home. There are twists and turns, ups and downs, and lots of red herrings. The house is old, creaky, and there is a creepy presence. The people also seem peculiar. There are threats, things are missing, and appearing, and everything is dangerous. It appears at least more than one character is using gaslighting techniques, on someone unbalanced. There is more than one unbalanced person in this story.
I would highly recommend this frightening and scary thriller for those readers who appreciate this genre.
I also appreciate that the author does mention that people with mental illness should get help.
With her latest offering, The Other Mrs., Kubica proves once again why she can be considered one of the current queens of psychological suspense.
Will and Dr. Sadie Foust try to leave professional and marital problems behind them and grab at a fresh start after Will inherits his sister’s house (and guardianship of her 16 year old daughter, Imogen) following her death. Moving from Chicago with their sons Otto, 14, and Tate, 7, to an isolated island in Maine, is a big step for all of them, but one that Will and Sadie want to work. Things soon swerve off course however. The house is very dark and creepy, and Imogen doesn’t want them there. At all. She is filled with anger and attitude, and truth be told, frightens Sadie. When one of their neighbors is murdered only days after they move in the family finds itself under intense scrutiny.
The plot and characters are superb, and though I thought I had it figured out (many times), I didn’t. Nothing is as it seems. I love it when that happens!! This started out fast-paced, got a bit sluggish for awhile and then took off again with intensity. Downgraded from 5 stars to 4 for the slow section, but definitely add this one to your TBR pile, you’ll be glad you did!!
My thanks to NetGalley and Park Row for allowing me to read a copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review. All opinions expressed here are my own.
This is one intense read! One of the best psychological thrillers that I have ever read. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat from the very beginning until the absolutely unbelievable ending! Told in the alternating voices of Sadie, Camille and Mouse, you will be transfixed. You will learn so much about these characters and yet know nothing. This book is filled with so many twists and turns that you can’t possibly know the truth of what is really happening. I love books like this, that I think I have figured out and then, blam, you are thrown for a loop! I truly never saw this ending coming. Wow, I am literally sitting here with my mouth hanging open saying, no way! Mary Kubica has woven a story rich in suspense. Filled with lies, deceit and murder, you don’t want to miss this one!
I received an ARC of The Other Mrs. by Mary Kubica from NetGalley and the publisher and this is my fair and honest review.
Wow! This was a spine chilling psychological thriller, and so well written. This was such a dark and action packed book, once I started reading it was almost impossible to put down. I thought I had it figured out about half way thru the storyline but wow boy was I wrong. For those that love psychological thrillers you dont want to miss thi
