Did not finish as too weird
It was ok, fairly predictable.
Relentlessly depressing and obvious plot line after two chapters.
It was supposed to be a fresh start.
Every area of Sadie’s life has been marred in some way. Her husband isn’t as devoted as he seems, her oldest child is in serious trouble at school, and a mistake at work nearly costs Sadie her career as a doctor. Moving to Maine was supposed to be a new beginning for them all. Instead, it only makes things worse. Just when Sadie doesn’t think anything else could go wrong, a brutal murder happens just a few houses down the street. Even more shocking, the police think Sadie has something to do with the crime. Will Sadie be able to prove her innocence, or is the culprit closer than she imagines?
Sadie’s situation is so sad. The more I read, the more I discovered just how many problems were plaguing Sadie and her family. Ms. Kubica chose to tell this story from multiple viewpoints. I found this intriguing as each character has something important to add to the plot. Each chapter peels back another layer, revealing the roots of the problems bit by bit. I will say that this format did slow the pacing down. Since the chapters alternates between the perspective of several of the main characters, I needed to re-adjust my mindset with each change. I interpret chapters from Sadie’s perspective much differently than those from the perspective of Camille, the woman Will has an affair with, or Mouse, a young girl whose true identity isn’t revealed until the novel’s conclusion.
The nature of the subject matter also made it more difficult to get through this book. This book contains a lot of heavy material including violence and child abuse. As I read, the weight of it all pressed on me, and I needed to set the book aside from time to time before picking it up again. Readers sensitive to this material are forewarned.
The conclusion of this novel is mostly satisfying. I think some of the twists are a little hard to swallow. However, I was able to set aside my disbelief, especially since many of the characters are well on their way to finding some semblance of happiness by the end.
Overall, I think The Other Mrs. is a good book. I recommend it to readers who enjoy a slower paced suspense.
Good murder mystery, has a wonderful plot that keeps you guessing. While I felt the writing wanting slightly the creepy characters and plot made up for it. 4 stars.
Twisty & suspenseful enough to keep my interest up. I had quite a bit of the plot figured out, but there were enough surprises to keep me intrigued & guessing until the very end. Narrator did a good job with the numerous voices in the audiobook.
This isn’t my normal kind of read, but I totally dug it. The characters are jacked up and just when you think you know where it’s going- nope another twist.
Al I can say is WOW! Ms. Kubica has written a psychological thriller that kept me awake and reading all night through many twists and turns to the end of the book. Just when I thought I had it figured out, the plot took a turn in an entirely different direction.
This is the first book by Ms. Kubica that I have read, but it won’t be the last. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys an exciting psychological thriller.
This was a very good story, but the author’s constant misuse of pronouns was irritating.
I debated about the three star rating. But, I can’t bump it up. I had things figured out too early in the book. I had trouble getting into it and didn’t like any of the characters. I can’t say much without spoilers. So, I won’t. Others I talked to loved the book. You’ll have to decide for yourself.
This book was well written, but I figured out the twist early on. That was a little disappointing. I still liked it, though!
Another hit by Mary Kubica! My guess turned out to be right, although it kept me guessing all the way through. Great read!
Taken by surprise, as you don’t see the ending coming!
What an amazing book! My first by this author but most certainly not the last! It kept my interest from beginning to end but I think I held my breath for the last few chapters. Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out…boom! Surprise ending! Very interesting book about how mental illness can affect a whole family.
Mental illness is a terrible thing to have to deal with! Mary Kubica deals we’ll with this issue although in my opinion far fetched. It did make for good reading.

The Other Mrs. by Mary Kubica is a story that will keep you guessing to the very end. This psychological thriller delves into murder, suicide, paranoia, and madness with a dark, edgy plot. There are twists and turns, some I figured out, and some that I did not see coming…at all. The story was well written, but I felt the pacing in the middle of the book lagged a bit but then picked up again in the last few chapters.
The character development was excellent, I loved them all, even the diabolical ones. The story is told from three points of view, Sadie, Camille, and Mouse, an adorable, sweet six-year-old little girl whom I fell in love with. Sadie is a physician who is married to Will and they have two boys. Camille, who was Sadie’s roommate, met and fell in love with Will before Sadie and Will met. She is the other woman.
“If it wasn’t for me, they never would have met. He was mine before he was hers.” “But I couldn’t stay away from Will forever.”
After his sister’s death, Will inherits her dark, eerie house located on a remote island in Maine and her daughter Imogen. In an attempt to escape their many problems in Chicago, Will moves his wife Sadie and their two boys determined to make a fresh start. Sadie is not at all happy with the move, and to complicate the situation further, Sadie must deal with Imogen. Imogen is, with good reason, is a broken, angry, disturbed teenager.
“I might not have seen her. But there she stands, a morose figure dressed in black.”
Life over the next seven weeks starts to fall into place. Sadie, a physician, has found a fulltime job at the local clinic. Will has a part-time as an adjunct professor on the mainland. And their two boys, Otto and Tate, are settling into their schools. When their neighbor, Morgan Baines, is murdered, life in this seemingly idyllic town turns dark and twisted. Unfortunately, that is all I can reveal about this story without spoiling it.
The Other Mrs. delivers a story that is filled with suspense and an eeriness that will have you turning on all the lights in your house. But the best part of this book is the multi-level reveals that will keep you turning the pages. I have been looking forward to reading a book by this author for some time, and I was not disappointed. I am looking forward to reading more from Ms. Kubica.

*** I kindly received this galley by way of NetGalley, Park Row, and Mary Kubica. I was not contacted, asked, or required to leave a review. I received no compensation, financial or otherwise. I have voluntarily read this book, and this review is my honest opinion. ***
It is a depressing twisted thriller, murder mystery! I got so wrapped up in it that I needed to read a humorous novel next! I found it too much of the PPO, it needed more active conversation to make it a truly great read! I figured out the murderer before the ending, the ending is a shocker though!
It’s okay if you like physcological impaired couples!

The Other Mrs. is a twisted psychological thriller/murder mystery with an ending that bit me with an unexpected surprise. Dr. Sadie Faust and her husband Will, a professor, relocate to Maine when Will inherits his sister Alice’s home in Maine along with her 16 yo troubled niece, Imogen.
Just after their move, their neighbor is murdered. The situation becomes overwhelming as the town is weary for a murderer in their midst. The tension builds up as the island becomes isolated at night with only the ferry to move people in and out of the island and the possibility of the murderer still in the island.
The story unfolds through the viewpoints of three different characters—Sadie, Camille, and a young girl named Mouse. There is a few distractions in the plot which add to a dramatic mystery surrounding the questionable suicide by Will’s sister, strange behavior from Imogene and their oldest son.
I was highly entertained by this fantastic read and the surprising mind bending twist in the end. I recommend this book for an engrossing thriller that reads fast and will keep you at the edge of your seat.
The Other Mrs by Mary Kubica is a thrilling contemporary psychological suspense that will have your heart racing as you speed towards the conclusion.
I found The Other Mrs to be a slow burner. I settled down for a comfortable read – and then the roller coaster of a read kicked in. Oh wow, oh wow, oh wow – what a ride – My pulse raced, my heartbeat rose as I read with heart in my mouth. Mary Kubica clearly has a great talent as an author as she manipulated my emotions this way and that.
The novel is written in the first person from several points of view. The reader becomes intimately involved and invested in lives. The various characters elicited different emotional responses from me. My favourite was six year old Mouse, although there were hard to read scenes of abuse. There is the theme of manipulation. Sometimes it is so subtle that it is difficult to recognise.
The Other Mrs is a brilliant read, extremely cleverly constructed. I cannot wait to read more by Mary Kubica if my heart rate can stand it!
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
A family tragedy pushes this little family to move to Maine to take over the estate of her husband Will’s sister’s home and the custody of her surviving sixteen-year-old daughter. As if moving halfway across the country and becoming the guardian to a damaged teenager she’s never met isn’t enough when a woman that lives down the street is brutally murdered Sadie becomes obsessed with finding who the killer is.
I loved Kubica’s last book, The Good Girl so of course, I picked up this one. I liked the last one better than this one. I enjoyed, it, but I found elements to be somewhat predictable. Although, being a fellow author that writes twists and surprises into the plot of her novels, there are only so many to be had and the struggle comes from trying to create your own. So although there were parts of this one that I figured out, there were more to be had. I kept reading, and the end wasn’t what I expected. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was a great book and I would call myself a Mary Kubica fan. Great read, if you are a lover of a good plot twist then pick this one up quick.
