I love all the Bridgerton books and this is as good as always. You can count on being entertained and being sorry the book is over.
Loved wish it was longer.
Good story but quite a bit of dialog and not much action or romance until the end.
I love any book by JuliaQuinn! Just finished reading this newly released book! Love the characters!
Loved it.
Yet another delightful read by Julia Quinn . Ever since I read my first Bridgerton novel I’m hooked. And this one was no different. Just like all the other novels in this series this one is also full of light drama, funny moments and love so right you can’t help but to fall madly in love with the MC’s. Andrew and Poppy were adorable with their banter. What I found refreshing was that her beauty is not mentioned much but her mind and how smart she is was.
Julia Quin is one of my favourite HR authors and I’m excited to see the next Rokesby novel on my Kindle

Poppy and Andrew are a witty match made in heaven. Both are extremely intelligent and can go head to head in a battle of wits. In spite of their unfortunate way of being thrown together the two fall in love slowly. I love how Poppy is a unique independent lady in a world where people don’t want to stand out and show off their intelligence. Andrew, he’s totally a swoon worthy privateer. He’s fierce and protective to the bone.
If you enjoy a fun and unique historical romance I highly recommend reading The Other Miss Bridgerton.
WoW I finally finished it, I did not know why but I was unable to read it straight from beginning to end.
I read the two first chapters as they were published online and they were very attracting but then I felt like I followed Poppy and Andrew’s story like an outsider, it needed a long time to be sucked by their adventures.
After the first two chapters, the real action really only took place after the 60% mark.
So the two third of the book was a kind of huis-clos during which they get to discover one another, sparing with the other then getting more along as time passed.
I do liked both characters, Poppy is no weak nor too crazy to try stupid things, she does for the best with the situations she finds herself in. This journey serves her to look within herself, to have a reflection about what she is really expect from life, and during this impromptu travel, she will learn about herself and fall in love in the more unexpected way.
« She could no longer deny the truth exploding in her heart. She loved him. And even now, knowing that she might indeed reach safety without him, some very impractical corner of her heart wanted to take a piece of him with her. »
Andrew is doing his duty but he feels more and more restless, sea travels do not satisfy him anymore, he longs for something else, and Poppy if she annoys him at first, she will also surprise him, make him attend with impatience their encounters, and little by little hope for more.
« Had she become his muse? Surely not. Poppy Bridgerton was vexing, exasperating, and far too clever for his peace of mind. She was an inconvenience wrapped in an impending disaster, and yet when he thought of her—which was all the time, damn it—he smiled. »
It was a very well detailed and witty read but probably not for me at this moment. So I will let you decide by yourself.
The Other Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn is book Three in the Rokesbys series. This is the story of Poppy Bridgerton and Andrew James Rokesby. I have read the previous books, but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Poppy is visiting a friend but when she had gotten some down time her curious nature kicks in and she takes a walk where she finds some caves. But she is caught by what she thinks are smugglers who take her to their ship. There she is thrust into a adventure with Andrew leading it. Andrew is the youngest son of Earl of Manston and they think he left the military sea life to become something of a pirate. But he has taken to working for the Crown delivering communications from England to Portugal and Spain. On this trip to Portugal he knows that even with Poppy his mission can’t be turned around until completed. Along their voyage their feelings start to become more than they can ignore.
Loved it!
The Other Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn is the third book in the Rokesby series. After failing to find a husband despite two seasons in London – although I don’t think she tried very hard – Poppy Bridgerton is visiting a friend in Dorset when, while she is exploring some beach caves, she is kidnapped by pirates. But things aren’t as dire as they seem. The captain of this gang is really acting as an agent for the crown and had no choice but to take Poppy along for the ride if he is to fulfil his latest mission.
I love this author’s books especially anything to do with the Bridgertons. They are always slow burning romances where the characters take the time to get to know each other and the dialogue between them is always entertaining. The heroes might initially come across as rakes and scoundrels but at heart are really gentlemen just waiting for the right women to come along and make them want to settle down. The heroines are all properly brought up young ladies but each come with a sense of adventure that stop them from being simpering misses and quick tongues that immediately challenge and capture the attention of the heroes. All in all, the characters are so well described, as a reader you come to care about them so much so that these books always leave me with a smile on my face and a warm feeling and this one was no exception.
The Other Miss Bridgerton is a Bridgerton’s Prequel by Julia Quinn. This was a really good book. There were some hilarious scenes that had me laughing out loud. Poppy Bridgerton is too curious for her own good. While exploring the coast, she comes across and smuggler’s cave and is caught by said smugglers. Kidnapped and taken to a ship she is held hostage on board the Infinity. Captain Andrew James is stunned to find a Bridgerton in his cabin. But he has secrets that must be kept. Poppy doesn’t know his real identity and he must keep it that way. “His hair was a rich warm brown, sun-streaked with gold and pulled into a devilish queue at the back of his neck. His face was quite simply perfect, with full, finely molded lips that tipped up at the corners, leaving him with an expression of permanent mischief. And his eyes were blue, so vividly so that she could discern their color from across the room.” This was another great book by Quinn in an already amazing series.
A glorious return to form for Julia Quinn. JQ’s signature humor is very much on display here. In the clever banter between Andrew and Poppy, in each of their POV narratives, and in the action sequences in the beginning.
I love that both are “ordinary” members of their respective families. No dukes, yay! No heiresses, yay! Just a normal couple the readers could relate to. I also love their lengthy conversations. I really enjoyed the one-upmanship (Shakespeare! Yes!), the button-pushing, and the slow getting-to-know-one-another through meaningful dialogue. You can tell that this book is thoroughly researched. It imparts information without being instructional and boring. I learned new things along with Poppy and I appreciate that.
This book has a great sense of place. Wherever the location, JQ takes us there. I really enjoyed being able to sightsee along with them in Lisbon.
Fiercely independent and adventurous, Poppy Bridgerton will only wed a suitor whose keen intellect and interests match her own. Sadly, none of the fools from her London season qualify. While visiting her friend Elizabeth at Charmouth on the Dorset coast, Poppy is thrilled to discover a smugglers’ hideaway tucked inside a cave then dismayed when two pirates kidnap her and take her aboard a ship The Infinity, leaving her bound and gagged on the captain’s bed. I love the Bridgertons & was thrilled when this series started. This is the third book in the series but whilst it’s easily read as a stand alone why would you when the series is so very very good. The pace flows effortlessly but it’s the depth of the characters that raise the author’s books above the run of the mill. A feisty heroine & a charming rogue of a hero whose war of words is so very well written & also extremely entertaining. Poppy is strong & verbally spars with Andrew from the start rather than crumpling & becoming a sobbing mess on being kidnapped. Andrew keeps his identity a secret but soon realises he’s met his match in Poppy. I look forward to more in the series
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
