Nina Astor gave me one red-hot night, then disappeared like a ghost.Three months later, fate drops her in my lap.The only problem? She’s beyond off-limits, and we’re worlds apart.I’m a city prosecutor with a bit of a dark side. She’s the gilded daughter of a dynasty…and property of the scum of the earth. And the man who owns her is the subject of my next investigation.Nina thinks I’m on the right … next investigation.
Nina thinks I’m on the right side of the law, but she’s forgotten one thing:
When it comes to her, I’m not a good man.
To claim her as my own, I might sell my soul to the devil himself.
True be told…
When it comes to this woman, maybe I already have.

Fucking incredible. I have been waiting for “The Other Man” to be released for over three months, and Nicole French knocks it out of the park with this book. French’s writing is captivating- I flew through this story and finished it in less than one day.
The chemistry between Zola and Nina is electric. I have been a fan of Zola since I read the Quicksilver series (featuring Jane and Eric), but learning more about his background and meeting more of his entertaining family was the bee’s knees. The more I read about Nina, the more my curiosity about her grows. I am eagerly awaiting June 2020 and the next installment of the Rose Gold series. Nicole French is a sensational author, and with “The Other Man”, she has reinforced her place as one of my favorites.
I am always a sucker for a good love story. This is different than your romance. There is drama happening with these two characters even before they met. They definitely deserve to have romance of their own and happy ending. Matthew has that typical macho feel and rescuing damsel in distress feel but he is also broken on in himself. I would love to see what happen with him and Nina.
4.25 stars–THE OTHER MAN is the first instalment in Nicole French’s contemporary, adult ROSE GOLD erotic, romantic suspense series, a spin off from the author’s Quicksilver series. This is thirty-six year old, former Marine, and criminal prosecutor Matthew Zola, and heiress and philanthropist Nina Gardner’s story line. THE OTHER MAN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous series is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the Quicksilver series for back story and history. Matthew Zola and Nina Gardner were first introduced to the reader in the Quicksilver trilogy.
NOTE: Nina and Matthew’s story begins in the novella THE SCARLET NIGHT (released November 2019).
Told from first person perspective (Matthew Zola) and third person (Nina Gardner) THE OTHER MAN follows two paths as criminal prosecutor Matthew Zola continues the investigation into the kidnapping of Jane DeVries (Quicksilver Series); its’ criminal connections to the world of human trafficking and sexual slavery; as well the forbidden relationship between Matthew Zola and Nina Gardner. Nina Gardner is Eric DeVries’ (Quicksilver Series) cousin; a married woman who is struggling with her place in society and the family. Months earlier, a one night stand between Nina and Matthew resulted in our hero desperately searching for the woman who got away. Matthew has a bit of a reputation with the married ladies, and in this Nina has made it clear that their affair can no longer continue beyond the present but Matthew and Nina ultimately find themselves together at various functions, family gatherings, and meeting in secret for their clandestine affair…but…all is not well in Nina’s world, and our heroine battles between head and heart as she begins to fall in love without story line hero. What ensues is the building but forbidden relationship between Nina and Matthew, and the potential fall-out as Matthew’s investigation takes on a familiar foe.
THE OTHER MAN is a story of family and betrayal; infidelity and cruelty; secrets, lies and the painful truth. Matthew Zola is a throwback to the gentlemen of the 40s: fedora, expensive suits and calling the woman he loves ‘doll’ but Matthew is also a philandering hero whose numerous affairs with married women could very well come back to bite him in the a$$. Nina Gardner is a woman caught in a loveless marriage, a marriage of which she is no longer in control. The premise is gritty and engaging; the romance is heart breaking, passionate and intense; the characters are colorful , dynamic and broken.
Romance, action, drama and heat. The Other Man is a great all-round read. The city of New York features strongly in The Other Man. This well known city as the setting added depth and reality to this complex and at times intense story.
Nina has always been the reliable and selfless heiress, the good girl who has always put her family first. Zola, an assistant DA, falls for her without knowing who she is. Then their lives collide and things get complicated. I was cheering for this pair from the start, which surprised me. The Other Man made me see that adultery isn’t always black and white.
Nina and Zola are familiar characters from the author’s previous series, Quicksilver. Events and the timeline from this book match in with the final book in the previous series. Although The Other Man is the start of a new series by Nicole French, I felt a stronger connection to the characters and a deeper understanding of the story having read the parent series.
I would have prefered the story of Zola and Nina to be a standalone, the pace of this first installment was dragging at times. Be warned, the book ends on somewhat of a cliffhanger! I will definitely need to read the next in the series ASAP.
I don’t even know how to write a review good enough for this book. I hate those reviews that basically retell the story because i feel that takes away from the book itself. i don’t know how to describe this book or how it made me feel all the things. amazing doesn’t cover it. excellent doesn’t cover it. Just take a strangers advice and one click it because it’s worth it and so much more! I’ve been waiting for Zola and Nina’s story for what seems like ever and has really only been a few months. but I was so ready for it that I didn’t think I could wait any longer. I’m so glad I did though because it was well worth the wait.
I do not know how to adequately put my love for this book into words! Nicole French has done it again! The Other Man is sexy, sweet, and intense all wrapped into one delicious book! Nina and Matthew try to stay away from one another but their intense attraction and being forced into the same situations make that impossible. I couldn’t put this down and cannot wait for more of the Rose Gold Series and more of Zola!!!
This book was a great first read for me from this author. I’ve never read this author before but I will definitely be reading her again. Especially the next book The Perfect Woman. Nina and Zola are fantastic but it’s a complicated tale.
The story was gripping. Matthew Zola ADA is a fantastic character who takes his job seriously, he takes no prisoners at all. You get to see so much about the man that had become obsessed with Nina after one night. The only problem being, that she is married to someone else. Yep, I know most people find this subject a no go but for me, I didn’t have a problem maybe because I didn’t like Nina’s husband Calvin.
For me, Nina is the character of this book. She is strong, brave but for maybe a little silly for staying. In so many ways although she is married to Calvin, she belongs to Zola so much more. I’m usually drawn to the male leads but for me, Nina took all the limelight. I really can’t explain this story is too big, too intense and totally brilliant.
I so can’t wait for book 2 to see more of what going to happen between Zola and Nina. I totally recommend this book. But know the story isn’t finished here.

As many of you know, I don’t like cheating. I don’t think it’s right in any way, even if they deserve it. Now with that said, I still loved the book! The Other Man was the first book in Nicole’s Rose Gold Series and it fit right in to her style. It was full of angst and love and left me breathless!
Matthew knew Nina was the one after one night. But that was all it was, one night; she was gone before he had a chance to think twice. Fate would bring them back together soon enough but when her husband was at the front of his current investigation, what would that mean for them?
I was hesitant about this book but it won me over. I cannot wait to continue their heart wrenching story!
And can we talk about Nico and Layla!! I was so excited to see them and catch up on their lives!
So consumed by this amazing story Matt and Nina have off the charts chemistry!!! The story is a little taboo but so good you fall in love with everyone in the story and are left wanting more. Now on to the sainting for the next installment of this epic saga!!!
The men that Nicole French creates are in a league of their own. Matthew Zola is old school and I loved that about him. He was alpha, sweet, dirty, and knew how to dress. His profession also made him drool worthy. Nina, as the reader, I really want inside of Nina’s head more. The Other Man is mainly in Matthew’s point of view. I’m hoping in the future, we get inside of Nina’s head a little more.
The Other Man delivered exactly what I was hoping for. Intrigue, steamy, forbidden love. The best kind of slow burn angst.
The Other Man can be read as a standalone but it makes a lot more sense if you read Jane and Eric’s story as well. But, like I said, it’s not mandatory.
4.5-stars!
I was very intrigued by the blurb of The Other Man by Nicole French and was excited to read it. Then I started it and was just blown away. The story had all kinds of feels and was intense and captivating from start to finish. I could not stop reading. When Matthew met Nina, he was riveted by her. He could not stop thinking of her. When they meet again, he discovers she belongs to another. And so, begins their journey!
I loved the chemistry between Matthew and Nina. He was a determined and protective man and one you cannot help but love! My heart broke for Nina. On the outside, she has it all, but looks can be deceiving. The Other Man by Nicole French was an emotional and angst-filled read and I cannot wait to see what comes next in this series!
Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.
Happy reading!
Nicole French is a literary magician. The Other Man has everything too much yet perfectly balanced. Too much angst . Too much heartbreak. Too much chemistry. Too much feelings. And yet the perfect reading pleasure.
Each Nicole French book is a learning experience for me. I seriously cannot figure out how she creates an intriguing and unique story line in each book that is entirely different from the previous one. The Other Man is a forbidden romance. Assistant District Attorney Matthew Zola is a man of many talents. He built his life literally from scratch. And he was happy with his uncomplicated and disconnected sexual encounters till he stumbles upon Nina de Varies Gardener on one fateful night. She is off limits due to many reasons. The biggest one is obviously her marital status. Her societal status. Her daughter and her complicated past. Zola’s own vulnerability. But their worlds are connected and they will clash irrevocably. What can you do with an impossible love.
First, I swear Nicole French writes the swooniest alpha male. Take Matthew Zola. The swoon and heat factor is sky high. A perfect gentleman in three piece suit and an arrogant animal inside. I don’t think many heroes have this balance of intelligence ( that is a huge turn on for me), raw sensuality and sweetness. And of course she writes the most beautiful queens for his men. Nina is classy, poignant, compassionate, strong and wild. All at the same time. She carries the biggest burdens on her slender shoulder. Only Matthew can make her feel happiness and peace. Just like Nina makes Zola want to be a better man. The chemistry is absolutely breathtaking. I melted, sighed, cursed and cried all the damn time. The Author captured the longing and ache of unrequited love perfectly. Whenever they are together, sparks fly and the whole world may as well exploded. That ending shattered my heart. And I don’t know what to do with my scattered emotions. The plot is tight knit with a parallel thriller like story line that involved the criminal world of Zola and the family crisis of Nina.
The Other Man was a poetic treat for me. The writing of Nicole French cast a spell and my heart has no defense. Five stars are not enough for The Other Man.
Received ARC for honest review
Nicole French, you slay me with every word you write!! This book takes you on one hellva rollercoaster ride every emotion you can think of was in this book!
Nina and Matthew continue their affair but at what cost!! Will their souls be damaged along the way or will there finally be some kind of break through by the end of the book?
Absolutely stunning! I’m still processing this book and I was completely taken aback and loved every bit of it! Bravo!
When I read my first Nicole French novel two years ago I never thought I would become so invested in an author or her characters. Mathew and Nina have burned themselves into my soul. I felt their passion, their pain, their heartache, their need for each other. Nobody else writes angst like Nicole French and in the “The Other Man” she brought it all and than when you were not expecting it she leaves you a cliffhanger that has you wishing for the next book. Zola and Nina are in my heart and I can not wait to continue their journey.
Another extremely well written and addictive book by Nicole French. The Other Man is the first in the series and I was completely knocked off my axis by the twists and emotions they brought out in me.
Nina was so lonely and in need of someone to show her how happy she could be. Even surrounded by her own husband and family she was not fulfilled. She had money and status but it meant nothing. Worse was she didn’t realize how lonely she really was until Matthew came into her life. The pull to him was undeniable.
Matthew was the “good guy”. He was the dependable, loyal and genuine. He loved his family deeply and was highly protective. When he saw Nina for the first time he was hooked, he was in need of more of her.
Their story was so full of emotion and angst. There are twists in the story that I never saw coming and they broke me. I was completely lost in the story and cannot wait for the next instalment.
This isn’t my first book by this author… Nicole French has become a favorite of mine over the last few months and I’ve been excited about this release and I wasn’t disappointed. I went into it not exactly knowing what to expect but I knew it would be emotional… Because that’s what this author does.
The author managed to break my heart, put it back together again, only to break it all over again. I’m not sure whether I want to scream and cry, curse this author out or give her a hug. I did NOT expect that Matthew and Nina story would make me that emotional, I expected a little but what I got was so much more than expected.
Matthew is a hard worker, he knows what he wants and he isn’t scared to grab it. He’s determined and I couldn’t help but swoon when it came to this man. He was very protective and I love that in a Hero. He’s the only male in his family and he is super protective of his family, he has a strong sense of family values, again another box ticked up.
Nina is married, she has a family, she has money, but she is lonely and that is made apparent from the beginning. She can’t hide it. So when it comes to these two, there is a connect, Matthew brings out a different side of her, a happier side, and she brings out a different side to her but as much chemistry and spark there is between these two… None of this is going to be easy. Not with everything else coming into it. It’s messy but this connection they have for one another is nothing like either of them have felt before. They bring out the best sides in each other and it shines. But will they get the happily ever after?
This book was full of drama, angst, emotion, passion, suspense, mystery and plot twists I DID NOT SEE COMING! GAH! I was completely hooked. Ms. French and her way with words always captivate me and this book was no exception. I was hooked from page one! I can’t wait to see where the author goes with this and what book two will bring!
5 Stars!
I received a free copy of this book from the author.
The Other Man is the first in a new series by Nicole French. The characters are opposites in society but they fit together like puzzle pieces.
ADA Matthew Zola and NY Socialite Nina Astor met one night out on the town and had a night of passion. Only for her to disappear until she walks into her cousins apartment after three months for them to run into each other again. They can’t be together but they can’t stay away from one another.
This story takes patience to get through. It might make you a little uncomfortable but it’ll all work itself out in the end.
For the love of God why…why do I keep doing this to myself?!? I seriously hate cliffhanger even when I know I’m in for one but with Nicole French and her writing I’m willing do put myself through the torture of finishing a book and then having to wait for the next one to come out…after finish this it obvious I didn’t think this through
I just knew I would love Mathew Zola. He was an interesting character in previous trilogy and he because so much more in this book. I loved his passion and the way he loved. Is their relationship healthy?? Probably not but who cares. Together they were an explosive combo and the way the book ended I have a feeling my heart will be torn apart with the next installment in this story.
And now comes the dreaded part – the waiting. Holy shit I’m excited

I Need Book TWO Now!!!!!!
The ending has me waiting and wanting. Matthew and Nina were everything and more! I was putting off adulting for as long as I could. I needed to know what was happening next, yet trying not to get through the book too fast.
I have been waiting for Matthew’s story. And Nicole is on point with every word and every single page as it turns to something amazing!!!! I highly recommend this story. It will bring emotions at a high!
