From the New York Times bestselling author of Justice for Sara and The First Wife Erica Spindler comes The Other Girl, a chilling new thriller about a ritualistic murder of a college professor that sends a small town cop back into the trauma she thought she’d put behind her. “Explosive.” –Publishers Weekly (starred review) “A fantastic thriller from one of the best in the genre!” –RT Reviews fantastic thriller from one of the best in the genre!” —RT Reviews
A horrific crime. One witness–a fifteen year old girl from the wrong side of the tracks, one known for lying and her own brushes with the law.
Is it any surprise no one believed her?
Officer Miranda Rader of the Harmony, Louisiana PD is known for her honesty, integrity, and steady hand in a crisis–but that wasn’t always so. Miranda comes from the town of Jasper, a place about the size of a good spit on a hot day, and her side of the tracks was the wrong one. She’s worked hard to earn the respect of her coworkers and the community.
When Miranda and her partner are called to investigate the murder of one of the town’s most beloved college professors, they’re unprepared for the brutality of the scene. This murder is unlike any they’ve ever investigated, and just when Miranda thinks she’s seen the worst of it, she finds a piece of evidence that chills her to the core: a faded newspaper clipping about that terrible night fifteen years ago. The night she’d buried, along with her past and the girl she’d been back then. Until now that grave had stayed sealed…except for those times, in the deepest part of the night, when the nightmares came: of a crime no one believed happened and the screams of the girl they believed didn’t exist.
Then another man turns up dead, this one a retired cop. Not just any cop–the one who took her statement that night. Two murders, two very different men, two killings that on the surface had nothing in common–except Miranda.

An investigation that is moving in a speed that is just fast enough and then suddenly speeds ahead to an ending you may or may not see coming. Detective Miranda Rader, the girl from the wrong side of the tracks was once caught in situation where she was a victim but now stands for justice as a detective on side of the tracks where did not grow up. Someone just murdered a resident who is described as a great guy. He is known as someone everyone liked and respected. Is this who he really is or is there more to the story? The Other Girl is a good suspense story which will have you thinking you solved the ending and then questioning if you actually guessed right or missed something. A compelling read which will draw you into reading this book in one sitting. The romance is a nice addition and adds to the story line. Be prepared for a good thrill ride though no screaming needed.
Ok, so I can’t help but feel the Miranda makes one mistake after the other. She is a suspect and yet still doesn’t cover herself? She was beginning to annoy me and I was getting disappointed that her partner wasn’t hanging out more with her, giving her an alibi.
Started off a little slow but picked up very quickly.
I’ve long been a fan of Erica Spindler’s books, so was happy to see this offering. It was a page turner. I don’t often find books anymore that I can’t put down, but this was one. I read it very quickly. It was written in my favorite genre: psychological thriller, and this story about a lady cop, trying to escape her poor upbringing and teenage mistakes ,and yet solve the murder of a college professor kept me reading until I finished.
Loved it
Excellent read.
I love Erica Spindler novels! Again, this one did not disappoint. I live in the areas Erica writes about so it is always fun to figure out the real name of the town in her novels. This story was intreaging and fast paced. It will keep you guessing it until the end. It’s one of those stories where you are not sure who the good guys are.
Excellent read. Delivers an awareness of treatment of powerful people vs. the society underdog. Way of the world … and still is.
Held my interest throughout. Great read.
Miranda had a traumatic experience in her teens that caused her to turn her life around and become a cop. After ten years, she and her partner are called to a scene in which the brutality shocked them all. This killing was personal on more than one level – a clipping from her incident was also there. When she is relieved from the case after investigating on her own, her partner takes over. This murder mystery takes you on a ride from the crimes, relationships with partner, mother, and brother, the incrimination of other police officers, and to the killer herself. Kept me reading to get to the end. I will be reading more of Ms. Spindler’s books.
I was very iffy on this book when I started, but I was quickly sucked in by the night that sent Ronnie to juvie and the night 14 years later when Richard Stark was murdered. By the time I was 25% into the book I did not want to put my Kindle down. The story was very well paced and flawlessly switched back and forth between Miranda’s past and present. Even though I guessed the mystery behind the stark murder, I enjoyed the tale Spindler wove. I felt like this book was more than just a crime thriller. This was also the story of a woman finally healing from the past she had spent 14 years hiding from.
I voluntarily received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Kept me up late at night, very suspenseful. The book is well written and one that I really got involved in.
I love Erica Spindler’s books.
