In the tradition of The Paris Wife and Mrs. Poe, The Other Einstein offers us a window into a brilliant, fascinating woman whose light was lost in Einstein’s enormous shadow. It is the story of Einstein’s wife, a brilliant physicist in her own right, whose contribution to the special theory of relativity is hotly debated and may have been inspired by her own profound and very personal insight.
… and very personal insight.
Mitza Maric has always been a little different from other girls. Most twenty-year-olds are wives by now, not studying physics at an elite Zurich university with only male students trying to outdo her clever calculations. But Mitza is smart enough to know that, for her, math is an easier path than marriage. And then fellow student Albert Einstein takes an interest in her, and the world turns sideways. Theirs becomes a partnership of the mind and of the heart, but there might not be room for more than one genius in a marriage.

This book was much more than anticipated. We were reading it for book club and I’m grateful for the push. Mrs. Einstein, in my eyes, was more than her husband, which has always been put on a pedestal. She had it all. Not only as brilliant as her husband, but emotionally, spiritually and socially surpassing her husband. She’s the one that should be revered today!
Enjoyed learning about the 1st Mrs. Einstein. Sounds like she had a great mind
A bit slow in the beginning but gave a realistic view of Albert Einstein and his wife. Similar to The Only Woman in the Room in that it highlights a story of a talented and intelligent woman and introduces her to the readership.
Amazing book about a little known historical person. I loved it!
Interesting perspective on the woman behind the man. Although this is a novel, it raised thought provoking questions about his wife’s real contribution to his body of work.
This gave a new view of Einstein. It was an informative story giving insight on the negative, manipulative of his character.
thoroughly enjoyed it.
very interesting
Loved this book . Women’s role in that time was so sad. This is a unsung hero book.
Good book. My opinion of Albert Einstein was “tilted” …
I was surprised that many readers found this book boring. I guess it is like taking a liking to a particular kind of food or a style of dress. Different strokes for different folks. I found it so interesting I read it in literally one sitting. A brilliant woman whose ambition is to become a renown physicist ultimately subjugates her goals in favor of her husband’s. While the theme is understandable in the early 1900’s it remains all too familiar today. Many of us have either experienced it or seen it happen.
Like the heroine the author, a litigator, knows what it takes to succeed in a traditional male world, She writes a book loosely based on history but more so tells a story little known of Einstein’s first wife, Mileva Maric. When Ms Benedict introduces scientific theory she explores complicated axioms in layman terms. Thus, any reader would understand not so much the theory but how all physics can be revealed as systematic laws of nature that order the operation of the universe.
This book certainly sheds a different light on what we all think we know about the brilliant Albert Einstein.
A really enjoyable read. Felt it was a biography even though I knew it’s a fictional tale. Lots of verifiable facts interlaced through out.
It is unfortunate what women had to endure in different times. Makes you think less favorably toward Albert Einstein. Good writing
I learned so much about the personal side of Albert Einstein’s life. Rather informational but traffic for his wife and family. It was our book club choice this month and glad we picked it.
An eye opener about the history of women in science.
Bodes to the statement Behind every good man there is a good woman.
very enlightening about the life of Einstein and his wife.
This is a great book for fans of historical fiction. It sheds an enlightening image of a woman almost too smart for her time. She is shadowed by the greater Einstein that we are all familiar with. Yet she is just as intelligent, if not more, than him. An inspiration for all women. Loved it!
First off this is a semi fictional account of the first Mrs. Einstein. Parts are true but parts are made up. It was a story to make you think and the story could easily happen today. It made me think and look around at different couples and how they treat each other. When I was done I wanted to find out more and am looking for more books about her. She is a fascinating person.
