Great read
A new perspective on theTudor/Boleyn story. Very interesting.
I have read this book several times and enjoy it every time.
The era of the formation of the modern British state was not a time for the weak of heart. Philipa Gregory is the reigning master of historical fiction. As someone who taught British history at the university level for more than fifty years, I found her characters, especially Thomas Cromwell (I was a student of Geoffrey Elton) to be the most …
Had to read for a book group otherwise wouldn’t have finished it. We know how it ends so the writing has to be excellent. Try Hillary Mantel’s version.
Twisted family.
This is the book that led me to read the Cousin Wars series and the Tudor Court series by the same author.
All her books are eccellent.
Quite good reading.
Gregory is an easy to read historical fiction author. She keeps you involved.
Philippe Gregory plays with the facts too much. I do not care for her books, this one included.
I don’t like Phillipa Gregory’s works. I just don’t. I find them tedious and pretentious, and this certainly fits the mold. It’s a cold, harsh, overlong look at the Boleyn sisters, a topic done to death by countless other authors, and in more accessible fashion.
This is how I like to get my history and I’ve read a lot of Gregory’s books. They are entertaining and informative and full of historical detail.
Not as good as others.
Her books are so good that you’d like to think they are non-fiction!
GOOD BOOK
The author really knows how to make history come alive in her historical novels. It feels like you are right there.
My favorite
I love this type of book, and I read as many of them as I have time for.
Love anything about Henry VIII & his Court.
