“Secrets, lies, treachery, and passion…. I read this novel in a headlong rush.” —Christina Baker Kline, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Orphan Train
A powerful novel of friendship set in a traveling circus during World War II, The Orphan’s Tale introduces two extraordinary women and their harrowing stories of sacrifice and survival.
Sixteen-year-old Noa has been cast out in disgrace after becoming pregnant by a Nazi soldier and being forced to give up her baby. She lives above a small rail station, which she cleans in order to earn her keep… When Noa discovers a boxcar containing dozens of Jewish infants bound for a concentration camp, she is reminded of the child that was taken from her. And in a moment that will change the course of her life, she snatches one of the babies and flees into the snowy night.
Noa finds refuge with a German circus, but she must learn the flying trapeze act so she can blend in undetected, spurning the resentment of the lead aerialist, Astrid. At first rivals, Noa and Astrid soon forge a powerful bond. But as the facade that protects them proves increasingly tenuous, Noa and Astrid must decide whether their friendship is enough to save one another—or if the secrets that burn between them will destroy everything.

Sad but good read. One of the better about Natzi Germany and the will to live .
This book is impossible to put down or to forget. Definitely up there with Water For Elephants or greater still. So glad to have read it!
A great and intriguing story about the circus and its challenging operations.
Very good read. Loved the positive relationships amid the worst of circumstances. The human emotions of the characters and their efforts. To survive were so heartfelt. Absolutely loved the characters. The ending was tragic and realistic.I had to read to the end before I put it down.
I liked that it was based on factual events during WWII that were then taken and used for the premise of the novel.
So sad but inspirational how everyone managed to still live their lives in positive way
I enjoyed so much about this book: Well written, historical, romantic, unpredictable, Christian and clean.
Great book – interesting topic
Without a doubt one of the best books I have ever read!
Based on actual cases, this novel follows a young woman who saves the life of a Jewish baby and hides them both in a traveling circus. Strong characters, realistic dangers and traumas and a well written tale of how Jews hid in circuses during the Holocaust, aided by heroic Christians.
I read this book in a few days so inspirational & so real
Anyone that reads about the holocaust, needs to read this
