A story involving a simple farmer in the 18th century would not usually be my kind of book but when you throw in a long held secret by the Vatican involving ghosts, demons and those trained to protect the living world from them, then what you have is an interesting and intriguing story that had not difficulty holding my interest, I enjoyed this one far more than I expected when I first started it.
I liked this narrator, he was a good fit for this story and has a pleasant voice.
This is a prologue to THE ORIGINS OF MILLERS CROSSING. In the 18th century William Clark is a humble farmer near a small fishing village in Scotland. He has seen ghosts since he was a child & hasn’t thought himself special or gifted. In fact, he thinks his “gift” is a bother when his animals are anxious & noisy and he has to chase the ghosts away. It is the drudge of day to day toil, & he sometimes sits at the sea side to ponder his life. He would like to go beyond his small village, anywhere that would be an adventure.
He has always loved Ainsley and she him — but he doesn’t know it. Her father is a wealthy man and thinks William is beneath her.
When a stranger contacts him about his gift & offers to take him to the Vatican in Italy for education and training, William is overjoyed. But what about Ainsley?
They get married the night before the voyage begins and become involved in a secret select group of people like William to protect the world from evil.
Loved David’s descriptive writing, characters and his handling of the unusual subject of the paranormal hundreds of years ago.
I thought this was a great book. The story is very well written and keeps you pulled in from start to finish. David Clark is a great author and am looking forward to reading more by him. I would recommend reading, you won’t be disappointed.

The Origins of Miller’s Crossing is a well-written prequel to The Ghosts of Miller’s Crossing. From the sleepy coastal town of St. Margaret’s Hope in Scotland, to the Vatican City, to Miller’s Crossing, we see William Miller progression from a simple farmer to becoming very important in the fight between good and evil. An eerie and frightening tale. I received a copy of this book for an honest review
