A slow-burning enemies to lovers romance from an all-male POV.Brax Anderson is the #1 bachelor on his side of Ravenshoe. With ruggedly handsome looks and a gorgeous heart, women swarm to him like bees to a honeypot. His grandma, friends, and a few hours between the sheets with a variety of bunnies keeps his blood pumping. He is a self-proclaimed bachelor with no intentions of settling down. That … down.
That all changes when a girl from the right side of the tracks saunters into his life. With a fire-breathing attitude and a body even hotter than that, it is not just Brax’s blood pressure surging to record-breaking highs. The blonde princess tosses out callous words like they’re grenades, and can spar with the best of them, but what happens when a beauty meets a beast she can’t conquer?
Will Brax defy the laws of attraction? Or will the dragon finally slay the princess?
Please note: this story is NOT a fairytale. The scenes are hot, the main man is even hotter, and the storyline is gritty and real. Recommended for audiences over the age of 18 due to sexual content, adult scenes, and swear words. If hot alpha men with big hearts and rough exteriors scare you, this may not be the book for you.
Although this is book eight in the Enigma Series, it can be read as a standalone.

A very enjoyable read. I loved the chemistry between Brax and Clara. My first read from this author so I have to go back and get the rest of the books in the series
The Opposite Effect is a contemporary romance with a touch of suspense that could be definitely read as a standalone.
This book was fantastic. I really enjoyed reading about Brax, the hot Tattoo shop owner and his rude, silver spoon raised customer.Clara with a lot of secrets
It had so much humour and sarcasm amongst the sexual innuendos and tension. The little bit of suspense thrown in just topped it off for me.
I enjoyed everything about it, from the characters to the story line.

Uneven characters but nice story-line
The Opposite Effect is part of the Enigma series by Shandi Boyes and was written a couple of years ago. As I have not read any of the previous books in this series I was not sure if I would be able to read this book as a true stand-alone but am happy to say that I did not have any real issues with it. For the most part I liked this story and found quite a bit of it funny. But some things were a bit overplayed and the h was a bit overblown, and could have used a good kick up the backside.
So I am going to say that this is not my favorite book by this author but it is still a decent book with some really great parts to it.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
Brax runs a popular tattoo shop in Ravenshoe. Clara is a rich girl that comes in for a tattoo of a guy’s name and doesn’t like what Brax really puts on her. Not long after their initial meet she comes back asking for a job. Brax says no at first but then agrees to a two week trial period in which Clara does show she can do the work in her own way. Sparks fly between them as they continue to work together. When he learns that she is taking the bus he threatens to fire her if she continues to do so. He doesn’t realize the shape her life is in until he takes her home one night and see an eviction notice on her door. When Brax learns where she’s moving to he isn’t happy especially when she refuses to move somewhere else so he has a security system put in for her. The more he is around her the more he sees she is what he thought she was originally. Will Brax convince Clara that he is right for her? Can Clara see that her brother was wrong?
This is a great story once I started it I couldn’t put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Really liked this story once I got into it I didn’t want to put it down. I know Brax is a ladies man but you couldn’t help but love him & Clara well she got right up my nose but eventually that changed. As you got to know the characters more you felt as if you were there with them. This is definately a book that I would recommend.

Brax and Clara are hot. The relationship that forms between them is something special. The way he shows Clara that it is ok not to be uptight and snotty and not be hung up on someone that really doesn’t love you is special. their bond is priceless.

Part of me wishes I could go back and change every novel I have ever given a five star to, and knock it down to a four because that’s just how good this book was! If you want heat, romance, and some sexy bikers then this is the story for you. I promise you will not be disappointed!

I enjoyed this read from start to finish. The characters are well developed and engaging with plenty of chemistry and the storyline has an easy flow to it.

I loved reading Brax and Clara’s story. The story is a good girl/bad boy from the other side of the tracks story. The uniqueness of this story is that the author wrote it from Brax’s POV. These two characters clash but yet they are drawn to one another. Can they work passed their stereotypes and actually find happiness and maybe a HEA? I have had the pleasure reading a few of this author’s books and have yet to be disappointed. I will caution, be prepared to have your story turn upside down once or twice to keep you on your toes. Enjoy!

I enjoyed this so much. I haven’t read the other books in the series and this is actually my first book by this author. I will be picking up the previous books now as well. This is a standalone but I found myself intrigued by the other characters and needing to also know their stories. In this one, I had so much reading this because the back and forth between Clara and Brax was just so much fun. It’s funny, sexy, with angst that’s enough to get your motor running from the anticipation.

This is an enemy 2 lovers romance. This story is told from only the male point of view. Brax and Clara are complete opposites but opposites attract right?

Absolutely loved this book.
I adored the sensitive tattoo artist and the sassy rich girl. I find the Brad sexy and so attractive with his alpha sensitive side.
Their chemistry is sizzling and when they’re together, it’s absolutely hotness.
I only realized I had missed the 7th book in the series when I read this book. I’m mad at myself. I must not have realized if was the same series when it had a different cover.
This book and series are definitely worth the read. I enjoyed all the characters.
ONE HOT TO HANDLE ADVENTURE!!!
Somebody call 911! Shandi dropped the bomb with this Impressive storyline and steaming plot, blowing this baby into a tailspin with a life altering, mind-blowing culmination. A raging inferno chocked full of sizzling circumstances and fiery events, kicking those churning emotions into play front and center. Twixt and twinned and put through the ringer, along with a slew of shocking twists and startling turns, testing our characters in ways they never saw coming. Shandi pulled every emotion running rampant throughout unchecked, wielding this baby together seamlessly. The attraction and chemistry sizzles from the pages alluring and mesmerizing, until you feel the electrifying hum, under your skin. The characters are authentic and original with qualities and traits that transforms into amazing personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and colorful descriptions so rich and lively, they blend and flow smoothly. Remarkable job Shandi, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
Chaotic transformation
4.5
Very good romance from enemies to lovers because from the beginning, the characters hate each other: she’s hateful and extremely rich; he’s more down to earth, and he can’t tolerate her behavior.
The story is told by the hero, Brax, but his point of view is fascinating to follow and it allows you to feel Clara’s evolution between their first meeting and the end of the story, as well as his evolution.
The dialogues are excellent, accompanied by very good situations, tense, but sometimes funny, accompanied by a little action and sexy times.
Clara wants a tattoo with a first name, but her behavior is such that Brax, the tattoo artist, manages to get her to sign a contract with a modified tattoo without her realizing it. He thinks he will see her back soon even if she can’t sued him because he made her sign a contract. He is surprised when she returns a few months later, not to file a complaint, but to request a job. Their arguments are quite phenomenal, but Brax even with his rough aspect, can not help himself worrying about this unbearable woman who the more furious she is, the more she attracts him.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
another great story. Clara has a bad rep from the other stories in the Enigma series . She is rich, spoiled, snobby and manipulative. Brax is pretty laid back and in his words tries to avoid confrontations. When Clara shows up at Brax’s tattoo shop she displays all her bad traits. this is the beginning on future tug and war games. Brax wins the first battle between them. later when circumstances change for her, Brax hires her to work at the tattoo shop. They are total opposites but that does not stop the insane attraction. As time goes by, he learns things that changes his perception about Clara. You cab’t always judge a book by it;s cover. The story will have you smiling, laughing out loud and falling in love with Brax. I even began to like Clara. She didn’t roll over. She made some bad decisions and worked with the fallout. Even you didn’t like her attitude you have to give her props for being a strong woman.

The Queen of Ice is back and I’m so glad she turns into a decent human!
Wow Brax what a man! I’ll take him any day.
It was great getting more of Claras story and reading these two evolve!
Another fantastic read to the Enigma Series
This was an awesome story! I love the protective male!! Brad is very complicated as is Clara together the sparks fly!! I love how Shandi’s Books have a common thread but with new stories! You can read them as standalone or a series! I just love it!! Thrill ride through till the end. 7 stars out of 5!!
Well worth your time.
The Opposite Effect – Enigma Series Book 8 – by Shandi Boyes
The Opposite Effect is book 8 in The Enigma Series and while I think the whole series should be read because they are awesome, it is my belief that this story CAN be read as a standalone.
Brax Anderson ~sigh~ is the classic alpha male. He never brings a woman home to his apartment, he always uses a condom, and he never makes love. He is from the “wrong side of town” and is partial owner to a tattoo shop. Clara McGregor is an ice queen, poor little rich girl who is used to getting her own way by steamrolling over them and using her riches to back her attitude. Brax and Clara could not be more different.
This book is one of my favorites of the series. There are a couple of quick glimpses of previous characters and a little bit of crossover on points of views from previously written scenes, but this story stands on its own. Brax and Clara have a dynamic together that made me wince and smile all at the same time. Her sass and brass shines through her rich girl persona.
Two of my favorite quotes from this book:
“A broken heart never mends. But it can swell to accommodate more people in it.”
“…you can always hold onto the piece of my heart that you’ve already stolen until yours fully *****” (word starred because I feel like it could be a wee bit of a spoiler)
I really FLOVED this book. I highly recommend the entire series.
