Dancing electronic violinist Lindsey Stirling shares her unconventional journey in an inspiring New York Times bestselling memoir filled with the energy, persistence, and humor that have helped her successfully pursue a passion outside the box. A classically trained musician gone rogue, Lindsey Stirling is the epitome of independent, millennial-defined success: after being voted off the set of … voted off the set of America’s Got Talent, she went on to amass more than ten million social media fans, record two full-length albums, release multiple hits with billions of YouTube views, and to tour sold-out venues across the world.
Lindsey is not afraid to be herself. In fact, it’s her confidence and individuality that have propelled her into the spotlight. But the road hasn’t been easy. After being rejected by talent scouts, music reps, and eventually on national television, Lindsey forged her own path, step by step. Detailing every trial and triumph she has experienced until now, Lindsey shares stories of her humble yet charmed childhood, humorous adolescence, life as a struggling musician, personal struggles with anorexia, and finally, success as a world-class entertainer. Lindsey’s magnetizing story–at once remarkable and universal–is a testimony that there is no singular recipe for success, and despite what people may say, sometimes it’s okay to be The Only Pirate at the Party.more
The Only Pirate at the Party is the inspiring story of Lindsey Stirling. While some of her hurdles in the music industry are well known, she’ll also reveal internal struggles she’s overcome in her journey to success. Readers will watch as she transforms throughout the book, forging her path in the music industry. She’s not your average performer. The sincerity and humor she brings to this memoir are heartwarming.
Lindsey Stirling’s music is just as unique as her personality. Readers will have a chance to see her journey through childhood and the family driven relationships that helped cement her values. She is a genuine down to earth person and reading about how deeply she cares for those close to her is enlightening. If you are part of her tour crew, you are treated like family. And there are plenty of stories within this memoir that will make you laugh at the antics on tour.
But along the way, there will also be the occasional people who spark insecurity and doubt in her mind. And there will also be some surprising reveals about fellow performers who look down on Lindsey Stirling. Some even put her into challenging situations that made her question her worth as a musician. It angered me how petty certain individuals could be. Music is such a unique experience to listeners and there is such a wide variety available. It doesn’t matter what genre of music is played, not everyone has to play a certain way. Music allows people to embrace their creativity and be who they are through their songs.
If you enjoy memoirs or are a fan of Lindsey Stirling’s music, grab a copy of this book. This is a quick and entertaining read, filled with memorable moments. And if you have the chance, grab the audiobook version of The Only Pirate at the Party. Lindsey Stirling herself narrates and brings an added depth of emotion to each chapter.

Thank you for your telling me your life s story so far. Even dipping into stuff that shouldn t be considered part of a book (IMO). Yet I can see how much it helped to define you.
{Obviously this is one of my first Audio book reviews. Any errors are strictly the reviewer s.}
I started listening to this book, figuring I d listen for a bit and then do some other stuff. I ll never know what I was planning on because her reading is much the same as her music.
It picks up the listener and carries them along for the ride. In a way, it doesn t surprise me, that this book is almost exclusively spoken with very little of her music playing. When she has music in the background, it is at a very poignant point in the book.
She describes how she managed to carve out a very unique knitch in the music world. While proving that it is possible to get ahead of the status quo while maintaining your personal beliefs and convictions.
Personally, I m glad for the “Lindsey Stirlings” of the world , because only having the usuals to choose from (in whatever genres) is so limiting.
I can t wait for the next album, book, whatever comes out of her talented artistic mind.
May it continue on ….
Live life,
