This book is powerful. Yes, you can probably imagine the gist of it by the title. But believe me when I say that the examples and explanations Gary Keller provides are eye-opening and worth reading for yourself. It will help you in all areas of your life, not just business.
The ability to stay in line with our action plan, our life guide, will develop inner strength and growing confidence in ourselves, as we come to see that every success or failure enriches us as human beings.
We must have faith and believe in the process of manifesting our desired future.
Inspiring book!
Excellent book. I like the way the authors don’t get all bonked down with tons of details and they get straight to the point. In our day and age, most of us think that we’re fantastic at multi-tasking, but humans weren’t designed to do many things at once, at least not do these many things very well. Usually we “multi-task” very badly. Multi-tasking is a term associated with computers, not humans.
Even computers only do one thing at a time, but they do it so fast and efficiently, that it seems like the many things we ask computers to do are all done at the same time. Not true. One thing at a time. And to be efficient, that’s what we humans need to do also, one thing at a time. Read the book. It’s not boring at all and it makes you think, which I always find kind of useful.
Keller really drills down on the importance of focus. A powerful message and many succinct and actionable points.
For example:
* Focusing question: What’s the ONE thing I can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?
* It takes 66 days to change a habit – for years we’ve been told it takes about 31 days.
* You make doing what matters most a priority when your willpower is at its highest. Do your most important work — your ONE thing — early.
* Achievers always work from a clear sense of priority. Instead of a to do list, you need a success list — a list that is purposefully created around extraordinary results.
That’s enough for starts – read the book!
The One Thing
“You want fewer distractions and less on your plate. The daily barrage of e-mails, texts, tweets, messages, and meetings distract you and stress you out. The simultaneous demands of work and family are taking a toll. And what’s the cost? Second-rate work, missed deadlines, smaller pay cheques, fewer promotions-and lots of stress.”
Gary Keller’s The One Thing is a groundbreaking book that brings extraordinary results in every area of your life—work, family, personal, and relationships. The lessons, strategies, productivity analysis, and simple illustrations used to better teach the material to create a reading experience that brings you back to the book day after day.
You don’t read this book and put it away. It becomes a critical part of your everyday thought process. Everything you do at work and in life becomes The One Thing. Too many of us chase rabbits and try to catch as many as we can, and in the end, end up empty-handed as Gary points out in The One Thing.
The One Thing teaches the fundamentals of productivity, bringing you out of the turmoil and chaos that has made a part of your life unbearable. By following the process in this book, you will move swiftly from failure to success in days and weeks, not years. Made up of 18 prolific chapters—each with its own lesson to teach—you will never need another book on productivity that can manage your work and life like this can.
In The One Thing you will learn to:
>build momentum towards your goal
>revive your energy
>stay on track with your time
>dial down your stress
>achieve better results in less time
>master what truly matters to you
You will learn that less is more and that more leads to less done and frustration. My biggest takeaway is the practice of going small. It’s realizing that extraordinary results are directly determined by how narrow you can make your focus.
As Gary points in the book: “Going small is a simple approach to extraordinary results, and it works. It works all the time, anywhere and on anything. Why? Because it has only one purpose—to ultimately get you to the point. When you go as small as possible, you’ll be staring at one thing. And that’s the point.”
Put The One Thing on your list of books to live by, not just read. You will be less stressed, more motivated, with higher octane-fueled energy for your daily work.

I think this book should be in every office and household. It is that important. Focusing on the ONE thing makes life so much easier and breathable.
This book is so important that I’ve created digital highlights of the quotes that I found incredibly crucial – in case if you’re interested, link: Gary Keller Quotes – highly recommended book to anyone for all ages (this book is easy-to-read)!
I am a sucker for productivity and I used to think that being productivity means I have to do MORE.
Not only was I stressed but I was burned-out and depressed…. worst of all, the results weren’t extraordinary.
By applying the principles in The ONE Thing, I find that my life is much more relax and I accomplish marvelous things.
This book simply allowed me to prioritize better, so I could finish the projects most important to me rather than spending time on things not pushing me closer to my main goals.
I’ve read over 100 books in 2018. This is in my top 2-3. Wish I read it years ago.
a great resource in the world of real estate and education. A must read for anyone who wants to better themselves.
As many might suspect the book is about business. But it has a touch of spiritual and will help you see what is really important to becoming successful if business success is what is important to you. An easy read with an easy to understand solution.
Great book for business owners who want to learn more about time productivity
“You don’t need to be a disciplined person to be successful. In fact, you can become successful with less discipline than you think, for one simple reason: success is about doing the right thing, not about doing everything right. The trick to success is to choose the right habit and bring just enough discipline to establish it. That’s it. That’s all the discipline you need. As this habit becomes part of your life, you’ll start looking like a disciplined person, but you won’t be one. What you will be is someone who has something regularly working for you because you regularly worked on it. You’ll be a person who used selected discipline to build a powerful habit.” The ONE thing – G. Keller and J. Papasan
