Have you ever wondered what would happen if you suddenly looked into the eyes of your handsome ex-boyfriend, at a romantic wedding in Rome … far away from your husband?Helen is almost forty and her boobs are starting to go south. She’s also happily married to Mark. But why, then, can’t she stop staring at ex-fiancée Rob’s big blue eyes from the minute she finds him on Facebook? And why does she … Facebook? And why does she agree to go to a mutual friend’s wedding in Rome—accompanied by her very loud and touristy mom and even louder gin & tonic drinking friend, Lori—when she knows he will be there?
It can only mean one thing: Trouble.
Things don’t get less complicated when Helen finds out that Mark is going on a business trip with his perfect ex-girlfriend (with perfect perky boobs) at the same time somewhere in Germany. Or when he suddenly shows up in Rome unannounced.
A fun, warmhearted, and compelling story, The One That Got Away is a novel about a lot of what if’s, how we often take love for granted, and how life doesn’t always have to be picture perfect.
“If you love a fast-paced story, with snappy dialogue and lots of humor and heart, this is the book for you.”
“We can all get confused and lost! Helen is just like the rest of us: Even though we’re all grownups and supposed to have it all down, we can still get very insecure, and we are certainly not perfect which is why it was very engaging to read about how Helen reacts when she meets her old fiancé in Rome. Of course, it stirs up a lot of old feelings and puts Helen in an even more difficult and emotional situation when her husband shows up, too. Not your typical love triangle drama. More a modern love story about grownups and how we can all get confused and lost at any age.”

I’ve read Charlotte Roth’s books before, but this one has a special place in my heart!! This is sooo relatable, in such a manner… I got really emotional a few times.
I think everyone has that one person , “ the one that got away”… they creep up into your thoughts unexpectedly and then you’re left wondering what if…
But what I learned is… everything happens for a reason. Sometimes it’s to teach us to be stronger and wiser. And Then other times, it’s to make room for bigger and better things!!
This book made me open my eyes and think. Thank you for that, Charlotte Roth!! I so desperately needed that, like you truly have no idea ! I need to stop living in the past and concentrate on my present!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!

Charlotte Roth is a new to me author and The One That Got Away is the first book written by her that I have read. She is a contemporary romance author. Her writing style just draws you into the book from the beginning and keeps you there until you have read all the pages and gotten all the feels.
Ms. Roth and her real to life characters and situations makes this book seem like it is possible for anyone to experience what her characters go through.
The One That Got Away is about Helen who is going to a wedding in Rome and learns that her high school boyfriend is going to be there. After being married to her husband for so long things have gotten boring and add in the fact that he is now working with his ex-girlfriend, doubts have begun creeping into Helen’s mind.
What will happen when Helen and Rob see each other in Rome?
Really good book.

The story is about what ifs. Like what would your life be like if you chose a different path or a different partner. Its also a story of envy because a woman sees something she doesn’t have so she questions what she does have. Helen has a beautiful family but she isn’t happy with where her life is. So when she sees a picture of her ex and learns he will be in Rome for the wedding she will be attending. It feels like fate to her. To me Helen was ungrateful, selfish and naïve. Seeing an ex shouldn’t be what makes you question your relationship. It shouldn’t make you question your life choices. She had a husband that truly loved her and two beautiful kids. But she showed no appreciation for that. It was like she was looking for validation but in the wrong place. I enjoyed the author’s writing style but not the plot. I was upset because it hit too close to home. It is a good read if you feel like calling a fictional character names in your head so that people don’t look at you crazy lol.
The One That Got Away by Charlotte Roth is definitely going to take you on an emotional roller coaster ride. Though it is a funny romantic comedy. this is the story about Helen, she has been married to Mark for almost 20 years. Life has become a bit boring for Helen, that is until she runs into an ex-boyfriend at a wedding. Now she can seem to get him out of her thoughts. What can she do? What was Helen thinking and what will happen? She has choices to think about.
Charlotte Roth’s writing was fast paced, flowed and will keep you engaged. Her characters were well developed and believable. I read The One That Got Away because she captured me from the first page and I wanted to see what was going to happen. The book was very realistic and you felt the emotions the characters were going through. I really enjoyed the book and I highly recommend it.
The One That Got Away by Charlotte Roth was one of those books that grabbed me from the beginning. I could relate to Helen and her feelings about her life. She and I are about the same age, been married about the same amount of time and have the same number of kids. The biggest difference is she got to figure everything out in Rome while I’ve had to do it in Texas.
Helen has had a good life with her husband Mark and their two kids. I think it’s fairly common for women our age to have a bit of a crisis when we are close to forty, the kids are grown enough that they don’t need us anymore and not feel like the young beautiful woman we once were. What Helen helped me realize that we are the different from the twenty something woman without a husband and children, we are better than her.
Most of us have the story about the high school boyfriend or crush who we felt was the love of our lives. I do and I did reconnect with him and I’m glad I did. It made me appreciate the little things. My husband isn’t perfect, but it’s the little things he does that shows he loves me. Texting me the baseball score if it’s a day game and I’m at work and changing the head on my toothbrush are just two examples.
I loved this story! I highly recommend you give it a chance.

The One That Got Away by Charlotte Roth
The One That Got Away by Charlotte Roth is a 4 star fun romantic fiction novel. This story and the characters were both very relatable. Everyone probably has their “what if” that they think about when they’re feeling a little unsettled in their daily life and there’s always that wonder about what might happen when you meet up again. This story showed the realistic and believable way these things could end up happening. The addition of social media definitely adds to the “what if’s” these days too.
This was a fast easy read and I really enjoyed it. I love second chance romances, but I also like to have the more realistic side of life in stories as well. The author did a good job developing this story and the characters so that I read this in one afternoon. This is a modern view of romance, having doubts as we get older, and wondering about the one that got away.

The One That Got Away by Charlotte Roth
The One That Got Away by Charlotte Roth is a romantic comedy. This isn’t my first book by this author and most certainly will not be my last
Her ability to grab your attention and keep it till the end. Once I started reading I had a hard time putting it down. I absolutely loved these characters but connected with Lori the most(I’m the lori of our group) she cracked me up through our the whole story but could be serious when needed.Get ready for a emotional rollercoaster ride that will have you laughing at times This story is about Helen and Mark, they’ve been married for twenty years but Helen is feeling like her life is a little dull and she really needs something. Her friend Lori finally convinced her to go to Rome for the Wedding. She starts a Facebook page and Helen is taken back by pictures of her ex-boyfriend. She can’t get him out of her head. What happens when she sees her ex for the first time? Then there’s Mark who is going on a business trip with his ex.How does Helen feel about it? What happens when Mark goes on business trip with his ex and they end up in Rome? What will happen when Helen has to make a choice? Ex or her loving husband that’s the choice Helen has to make.Shes bored with her life and looking to spice it up. I loved these characters and that they show you life and love isn’t always easy but there definitely is hope. “What if” becomes the question. I will say this is a must read and I highly recommend it especially if you are curious how it all ends.I can’t wait to see what this author comes out with next.

The one that got away written by Charlotte Roth is my first read by this author. This is a great, fast paced, and easy read. It is realistic, relatable and entirely believable. The characters are fantastic, very well developed and quite endearing. Helen is such a fun amazing character and I really liked following her story.
Helen is almost forty and her boobs are starting to go south, and she has been happily married to Mark for twenty years. But why, then, can’t she stop staring at ex-fiancée Rob’s big blue eyes from the minute she finds him on Facebook? And why does she agree to go to a mutual friend’s wedding in Rome accompanied by her very loud and touristy mom and even louder gin & tonic drinking friend, Lori when she knows he will be there?
We know one this can only mean: Trouble with a capital T.
Things thing’s get heated when Helen finds out that Mark is going on a business trip with his perfect ex-girlfriend (with perfect perky boobs) at the same time somewhere in Germany. Will this give Helen the go ahead to do something more than stare at Rob? What happens when he suddenly shows up in Rome unannounced?
You will have to read this great story to find out the answers….

The One That Got Away by Charlotte Roth is a wonderful women’s fiction novel. It has a interesting, clean, fun storyline with just enough drama, conflicted feelings, and intriguing characters to keep me hooked. I like how Ms. Roth changes things up a bit with this book- I loved Planet Perfect, but I think this book is even better. I also loved how the story made me think and gave me lots to ponder about how the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, and how easy it is to become complacent in a long-term relationship, how important it is to communicate… and much more.
Helen has been happily married to her husband Mark for almost 20 years. But she’s somewhat insecure, feels her age catching up to her, has doubts, and is just a little lost. She finds her ex on social media and can’t seem to stop thinking of him and wondering what life with him would have been like. Helen ends up attending a friend’s wedding in Italy, knowing that her ex would also be there. When old feelings bubble to the surface and social media gets thrown into the mix- and when her husband arrives unexpectedly- Helen will have a lot to work through… and what ensues makes for a funny, sweet, and very entertaining read.
This is a really great, fast paced, and easy read. It is realistic, relatable and entirely believable. The characters are fantastic, very well developed and quite endearing.
I look forward to more from Ms. Roth.
Thank you, Ms. Roth!
The One That Got Away by Charlotte Roth is a wonderful, Romantic, funny, and all around great book. I loved the story line and the characters in this story. Being forty something myself I felt very connected to the story and the situation Helen felt herself in, but I do think that this book is connectable to most ages. This book will grab you from the beginning and you will not be able to put it down until you find out out what happens with their marriage. The what ifs, i feel like are something everyone goes through at some point in their life. It may not be the same situation as this book but i’m sure most of us can relate. What happens to the ex’s? Do they remain ex’s? These are questions that you will need answers to as soon as you start diving in to this story. This book had me going through a lot of emotions throughout the whole story and that made me love the book that much more. This is the first book I have read by this author, but it won’t be the last. I really enjoyed her style and the flow of the book. I highly recommend this book.
This is one of those stories that I picked up and put down a few times before I truly got into it. I’m glad I stuck with it.
This is one of those stories that seemed too close to real life. Social media preying on insecurities, mean girls and school girl regrets, the wondering of what if, and teenage children that makes one question the whole meaning of life. Oh, and us turning into our mothers, I know it’s completely unavoidable – DRATS.
This book was quite a roller coaster of emotions and communication. If only the MCs had listened to each other from the beginning… If only people didn’t only post the best parts of their life.. If only our boobs didn’t deflate as we age… ~sigh~ so many if only thoughts are in this book that it had me looking at things just a little bit differently.
I enjoyed the story overall and would recommend it to my mom’s book club as I don’t recall any vulgarity.
The One That Got Away by Charlotte Roth. This is a new to me author and i can not wait to get my hands on more from her!! This was a fun, sweet and romantic read for me. This book was very relatable. Have you ever wondered what would it could happen if you met the “One That Got Away” at a later time in life? I easily followed along with this storyline and loved all of the characters. I highly recommend this book, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

“I guess the heart remembers what the head wants to forget.”
This book is filled with what if’s and a bit of jealousy intertwined. Sometimes when you take a look and you are feeling complacent, under appreciated, like you may have let yourself go and lost yourself over the years you wonder how it all happened. Looking ahead and wondering if it’s the life you thought you would have…I think parts of this storyline are very relatable to a good chunk of people.
“I can’t make myself turn around and look him in his eyes—his trusting eyes—not while I’m reminiscing about my past…”
The journey is filled with humor, friendship, secrets, jealousy, misunderstanding, regret, hope, fear and second chances. Some things aren’t always what they appear…not everything that’s new and shiny stays that way.
“I accept and love who I am unconditionally. Right now!”

I really enjoyed this book. It is good from the start and just keeps getting better! The end will have you sitting on edge wondering what will happen up until the last page!
