I don’t read a lot of young-adult-fantasy novels, but this one came highly recommended, and the book cover enticed me. This is the first book in the Chronicles Of The Diasodz series.
Sofia is a seventeen-year-old girl in her last year of high school. Up until this point, she’s lived an ordinary life as the daughter of Liana, a single mom and girlfriend to lifelong friend Rafe. One night, she has an extraordinary dream in which she meets a handsome boy named Ar’ch. Her life takes a bizarre turn when she goes to work and comes across Ar’ch in real life.
Sofia learns that she is far more than she ever thought she could be, and that an entire world’s existence depends on her. She has a decision to make, but how can she leave her home and everyone she loves behind?
How does a teenage girl choose between her boyfriend, who’s been her best friend since childhood, and a handsome boy who makes her feel things she’s never felt before?
The story was slow-paced at first, but soon picked up. Overall, it had a good flow and kept me engaged. The characters were well developed and relatable, especially Sofia, Angel, and Rafe. The final chapters are captivating and full of action until the end.
I recommend this book to readers who enjoy a young-adult fantasy with a love triangle, excellent characters, world building, action, and drama. I look forward to reading the second book in the series, The One Enlightened.
I admit to having read (and loved) the second book of the Diasodz series “The Enlightened One”—first. My plan was to read the first book before continuing with book three. Part of me wondered if doing so would rehash everything I knew, but I found that wasn’t an issue. I was quickly lost in “The One Discovered”. The depth and creativity to which Ms. Calleiro takes her story and characters pulled me in as I learned more about my favorites like: Sophia, Ar’ch, and Angel! Watching Sophia discover things aren’t what they seem, and the developing love triangle was fascinating. I don’t want to give too much away in this amazing YA story, but if you love a skillfully blended mix of romance, adventure, fantasy, magic and other worldly beings– along with a mix of new age and earth lore–you will love this. I eagerly dove into book 3 “The One Betrayed” and cannot wait to see where Ms. Calleiro takes us next. I highly recommend this book!
The One Discovered by Yvette M. Calleiro is a magnificent combination of fantasy and mystery that keeps you delighted page after page, as the story shrouds many layers of suspense. It is an easy read with just a few friendly characters who are trying to explore life and stumble upon some cryptic and implausible facts. Since this is the first book in the series, Yvette has laid a brilliant foundation for taking the story further. Sofia’s willow tree is my favorite too, the magnetic energy that drew Ar’ch toward her is rejuvenating and the description of portals enchanting. The best part of the book is that the story doesn’t drag anywhere; it flows at a steady speed.
All the characters are lovable except Rafe though I have been trying to analyze why I didn’t like him; probably he is haughty and stands in sharp contrast to Ar’ch and Angel who are inspirational and add a touch of tenderness to the deportment of male characters. Sofia’s relationship blues have been handled adroitly. If you like to be transported to another world through the words, this is a perfect book for you. I would surely pick up the next book in the series. Highly recommended.
I love the way fantasy can move in so many different directions. It can be classic epic fantasy, urban fantasy, and even have a bit of the paranormal in it. Such is the case with The One Discovered (Chronicles of Diasodz #1) by Yvette M Calleiro. Here is my review.

What I liked:
The One Discovered was a nice read. Written for young adults, I nonetheless enjoyed it. First, the book has solid characters. Sofia and Rafe make a good couple, and Ar’ch’s intrusion into her dreams and her life make for interesting conflict. The story hints of other powers at work, though Rafe and Sofia are ignorant for the most part. Follow their adventures and see if Sofia comes into her powers!
What I didn’t like:
Despite the fact that Sofia and Rafe are a couple, their lack of physical attraction seemed out of place. In addition, Sofia’s repeated swoons over Ar’ch got a bit repetitive.
Overall impression:
The One Discovered (Chronicles of the Diasodz #1) was a good read. Filled with a nice blend of fantasy and paranormal and good solid characters, it’s a book I recommend to anyone who likes the genre!
My rating:
4 Stars
I wasn’t sure what it was about when I started reading the first words with a girl sitting under a tree. Then as I entered the worlds Yvette created both here on Earth and an alternate dimension, I was entranced. Sophie is the One, but what does that mean? A sexy man enters her dreams, toying and teasing her, and tempting her. He is a Diasodz with many hidden talents, seduction being one of them.
The story is very well written with expectational characters, and I look forward to reading the subsequent books in the series.
