Sugar has found herself the default Alpha female in this ragtag pack of Omegas. They may be refugees from various other packs for whatever reason, but they now call Chicago and seem to assume that as the best friend of their Alpha, Eric, she is going to be his mate!
But the neighbouring pack is not happy and lays down a challenge to the Omegas and if they lose they will be absorbed into the aggressive pack – not good when most of them have suffered abuse in the same type of pack! So Eric uses his ingenuity and hires them a trainer. He even comes with his own accommodation – a glossy black coffin!
Daedalus is surprised at the request he received from Chicago but he is getting a tad restless so maybe the change will do him good! However, he did not expect to meet Sugar, the sweet little neighbour of his new recruits. Or to fall in love with her!
Sugar, like most of us, when handed lemons determines to make the best damn lemonade she can! She will protect her friends to the best of her ability and she will NOT let some blood-sucking vampire take advantage of them! Daedalus is a great mix of Alpha male, sweet and respectful and tyrant when it comes to training!
I cannot wait to see what happens next!
Sugar and her Omega friends hire a Nosferatu to train the shifters. This is a great start to the series.
I got this because I love, love, love this author and she did not disappoint. Her books are always fun, quirky, and written with the right combination of sexy and sweet. I loved the vampire intro (read the first few pages of his introduction into the story and you will understand). Chair leg, it’s truly beautiful in a humorous way. I cannot wait for more in this series, and I truly hope we get stories of all the original omega pack because they are a bundle of pups in need, and more importantly deserving, of true love.
An awesome exciting adventure, a vampire teaching werewolves to fight! Meeting the woman of his dreams is a refreshing surprise, however she is human! She is also fiercely protective of the werewolves, they are her friends and family! So he must tread carefully where she is concerned! He does his job, the werewolves are strong enough to survive, but now she is terrified of him! Has he lost her? Can she accept him for what he is? Will their love conquer her fears? When will she stop running from him?
Omega is an interesting read for shifters that need a little help. Daedalus was very intriguing. I felt that while we got a glimpse into him, there are still a lot of secrets and a bigger story to be told. Sugar was golden hearted for everyone. I got a kick out of her and Daedalus. While the story was fast there was a lot of room for future expansion into new storylines.
This book was awesome. I devoured it in one sitting. Sugar is best friends with Eric who became a wolf and started his own “pack” is misfit wolves. They’re all omega wolves that didn’t like getting crapped on by more dominant wolves. However, they’re in another packs territory and that pack has issued a fight. So what does a pack of omegas and a human do? Call in a vampire to train them of course! And what a fine vampire he is! He’s very alpha with a dry sense of humor! Sugar and Daedalus have instant chemistry. I loved this book and can’t wait to read Sugars twins story
I enjoyed this book, but I felt like it could have been a whole lot more. I liked the concept of paranormals living among real humans, the omegas banding together to form their own little support group, the idea of the underdog coming into his own and besting the jerk alpha. However, the characters felt a bit hollow to me, like they could have been fleshed out quite a bit more. The relationship between Sugar adn Daedalus in particular could have used a lot more attention. Overall, it was a fun read, but I just didn’t feel that it lived up to its potential. I am hopeful that perhaps future volumes in the series will flesh things out a bit more.
If you like a fast paced read, this is for you! The characters are funny and the story moves along. It is a short read though is my only complaint!
The start of a new series called Vanguards and I am looking forward to reading the next book. This story had me smiling. If you like this Author I would say read this book. I found it to be well written and a book that held my interest until the end. I received a copy and liked it so much that I also bought it.
A Vampire Training a Wolf-pack – Great Story!!
A pack of omegas (and strays) is challenged by a larger pack so hires Daedalus, a vampire, to teach them to fight. Their human neighbor Sugar attracts the attention of Daedalus setting off a chain of events which culminate in a highly entertaining story.
Pack politics, vampires, danger and romance are terrific ingredients of this exciting read!
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. The Omegas by Annie Nicholas is Book 1 of the Vanguards series. This is a rerelease of a series that was reworked and is delivered as a new and improved version. I read it in it’s former format (and I loved it then) and read it again last night (and yes, I love it again!). This is a sweet and spicy series that will have you falling in love with the wonderful characters and touching storyline. You have werewolf nerds and outcasts, a human librarian best friend, a sexy and dangerous vampire and trouble! What else do you need!?! There are sweet touching moments, nerve wracking interactions and the hot promise of love. A great read that is worth the effort! Mature Readers Please.
The perfect middle ground. I’ve read everything I can get my hands on in the Not This series and in the Angler series. This sits perfectly between them both. Having all the supernatural politics and double-crossing of the Angler with the sweet silliness of Not This along with the steamy sensuality found in both, Omegas (and I suspect the whole Vanguard series) is the perfect combination of the best of both worlds. I thought Sugar was like so many of us; just trying to do her very best with what she has available during some very difficult times. Deadalus is a wonderful mix of sweet and dominant. Together, they’re an explosive mix – in good and bad ways. I loved this introduction to the Omega pack and I can’t wait to read more about them.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
I love this author and her amazing characters.
The way she grabs me and keeps me riveted with her characters and story lines is nothing short of spellbinding. I was so enraptured with this book that I needed to use the bathroom but the book was in a particularly gripping point – an hour later I was still turning pages while keeping my legs crossed! You know you’re loving a book when it will not release you from its grip in order to use the bathroom. I went when I finished the book. Phew!
I am excited to see where the other characters are going and I’m hoping this will be a multi book series.
(Note to self: watch the fluid intake when reading Annie Nicholas books!)
I am a huge fan of this author, and this book had me feeling so many different emotions throughout.
The hero is fierce yet adorably vulnerable, the tension and love scenes were…shall we say, whew (you might need a fan)!
The characters are introduced here and will be focused on in subsequent books in this series, but they have all been introduced in such a way that I WANT to learn more about each of them, which isn’t always the case in a series of novels. I just started book 2, The Alpha!
Omegas is the first book in the Vanguards series. Sugar lives next door to her best friend and some of his fellow werewolves. In order to win a challenge, these passive werewolves need someone to teach them how to fight, and that’s why they bring in Daedalus, a vampire. Sugar and Daedalus feel an instant chemistry, but the world of supernaturals is very dangerous. Can Sugar accept everything about Daedalus and his world, or will her fears keep them apart?
I loved this introduction into the Omegas, the world of shifters and vampires, learning about hierarchies and fights, but I also loved the bonds between Sugar and the Omegas, and the bond formed between Sugar and Daedalus! This book is fast paced and there’s quite a bit of passion, danger, and intrigue. Sugar has a rough past, and so now she’s a little hesitant about certain things, but I loved seeing her backbone and inner strength shine through when she was protecting the Omegas! Daedalus was cool, collected, full of strength, but I loved his weakness for a little blonde human. They really made a great team, I loved their connection, and loved how the events in the book unfolded. I can’t wait to read the next one and see how everything at the end of this book will influence the rest of the series!
Overall rating: 4.8
Truly unique for me, this storyline highlights the roles ( or supposed roles) of the omegas in pack life. I thoroughly enjoyed the new perspective! Having Daedalus involved from the get go added an additional layer of mystic to the tale. Love that this author did not hold back on the dark side of things. There are definitely steamy pages throughout this book so this is for mature eyes only. This first in a series hit everything on the nail to keep this reader interested! Looking forward to book two. All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
