The last novel Ernest Hemingway saw published, The Old Man and the Sea has proved itself to be one of the enduring works of American fiction. It is the story of an old Cuban fisherman and his supreme ordeal: a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Using the simple, powerful language of a fable, Hemingway takes the timeless themes of courage in the face of … defeat and personal triumph won from loss and transforms them into a magnificent twentieth-century classic.

Written on multiple levels, The Old Man and the Sea is an ocean adventure as well as an exploration about aging, wrapped up in a subtle spiritual odyssey. It is about life with meaning, quality, and honor. It is many things, yet it is simple. It is Hemingway at his best.
An all time classic.
minimalistic.
A classic… ought to be on the reading list of every high school student and beyond.
One of the best books I read in school!
I read this for English class in high school and was amazed by how much it grabbed me. Not only did it engender a sense of solitude and loneliness, but it embodied the grim determination of man vs. nature. Highly recommended!
Hemingway at his finest. One of his last works of writing, this short story is nothing but grand.
Overblown sense of his writing ability.
interestingly different
this book has a lot of meaning to it even though when I first read it I wasn’t sure. Its an easy read and a good little story
