SETTING: A family feud over a sudden, natural death; a grandmother driven insane by her husband’s abrupt death as well as by occult liver disease; these form the miasma that surrounds the tender love-bond between Lady Emmaline Grant and the Duke of Newberry. Add to that, the abrupt death of Emmaline under suspicious circumstances, and the simmering battle between the Grants and the Fitzroys come to a full boil!
Mysteries abound—who hired Emmaline’s assassin? Was the carriage accident of the sister of the Duke of Newberry an accident, or was it an assassination as well? Layers upon layers of intrigue are peeled back before the kernel of truth is revealed. And just when all seems lost, surprise! An ending occurs that you will not soon forget!
CRITIQUE: An interesting storyline of an 19th century Romeo and Juliet, taking place in England. Well written characters, that mature with the story. As other reviewers attest, it is difficult to put this book down! This clean romantic mystery will be enjoyed by readers of all ages.
This one will keep you reading for sure!! What the women in this novel have to do to end the long standing family feud between the two families is unbelievable. As for the wicked old grandmother——-oh is she a trouble maker—-And the two Dukes–STUBBORN to the core–Will Emma’s disappearance and possible death bring them together–or make things worse–
As always once you have read this there is a place where you can click in and read a short story about what happens after the story ends—I truly appreciate this and so should you.
What a wonderful story of true love, old foolish feuds, meddling and unforgiving family, and suspenseful intrigue. I had to keep reading into the night to see who was truly behind the fate of the lovely, sweet Emmeline. Noah would not give up on his true love. If you like regency romance and intrigue, you NEED to read this one! (…and all her other books, as they are great too!) Emma Linfield does not disappoint! What are you waiting for?! Go read it!
The Grant and the Fitzroy families have been enemies for generations. Lady Emmeline Grant is out walking at twilight trying to capture a firefly. Noah Fitzroy, the future Duke of Newberry, steps out of the trees to scare her and the firefly escapes.
Emmeline and Noah meet again in London when she has a season and they are instantly attracted to each other. But the old family feud interferes, along with their relatives. What will happen next?
